My name is Joy Erickson. I am 50 (I’m now 51, I guess I’ll have to keep changing this as I get older than dirt!!!) years old and live in a little town in Minnesota. I have two grown boys aged 31 and 28 and 3 wonderful grandchildren. I have two that are 7 and one who is 3. Only one girl in the bunch.
I have a lot of hobbies that I keep busy with. I love reading, scrap-booking, feeding birds, pheasants, deer, rabbits….pretty much anything that happens along to my 80 acres, leaves with a full tummy. I enjoy knitting, jig saw puzzles. I tend to get addicted to whatever it is I’m doing at the time. For example, if I’m into reading, I’ll read a book a day for months or if I’m knitting, I’ll knit for months. I tend to get stuck in what it is I’m into at the moment. Right now I hate to admit but I’m terribly addicted to Guitar Hero on the Wii. What a thing for a grandmother to admit to!!
I also really enjoy talking current events with others so I’m kind of thinking of blogging and we’ll just see what happens.

Hi Joy,
This is an amazing read. You guys are all doing great. I love the question of the day. Very thought provoking.
Keep up the good work.
ps. I can still remember the smell of Grandma’s house too.
Jo-Ann
Could I ask where is Minnesota ?
:-s
Hi, Minnesota is in the USA. It’s in the central/north, right under the Canadian province of Manitoba.
I haven’t tried Guitar Hero (my kids love it) —- but I confess I’m addicted to Lego Star Wars on our PS2; and I reserved a copy of Lego Indiana Jones. Remember that our kids/grandkids think we’re cool when we like to play video games! : )
you have a very interesting blog. nice to read. I especially like question of the day; it gives people something to ponder. good luck!
I also love palying the Wii with my son. I want to get the exercise Wii.
I love your question of the day! I’m glad I stumbled onto your blog!
I’m glad you stumbled upon our blog too Just a Mom.
Love to find people who are passionate about family and relationships. I think we should all do more purposeful parenting.
Just thought I should tell you that you make me laugh just as hard!!! … and normally before my first cup of coffee which is just a pure blooming miracle i can tell ya! Sheesh!!!
And here I thought those adorable critters were your kids!
You guys make a great looking bunch!
hi joy.just read that you knit alot…….any chance of knitting me a thick wooly jumper for the winter ahead???any colour will do im easy….thanks…..
First of all I have to ask you what’s a thick wooly jumper????
Joy did you take the photo at the top today? No I mean not today but the one showing today, did you take it? If you did I just want to say that I love it, there is something about it – seriously.
Wow, there is no way you’re a grandmother! That picture makes you look positively young. I too get sucked into the hobby of the moment (books, games, crocheting, needlepoint), I cycle through them along the year.
Thank you for inviting me here!
Do you mean the photo with the grandkids San? I’m not sure what one your talking about. My daughter in law took the one at the top of this page.
I’ll pay ya later Goddess…thanks for coming
Scrap-booking?! I am interested in knowing more about this. I was considering trying to put something together for my grandson who’s father was killed in action in Afghanistan.
Surely it’s like when we were kids? (I’m nearly 54 so we probably went to different elementary schools to gether)
I’ll send you an email to answer this mssc54. You have no idea how it’s changed. I’ll send you a couple of pics that I have of pages that I’ve done. Your grandson would love it if you did that. I’m also very sorry about your son in law.
you have a beautiful sight joy… especially love the questions… you seem to truly ponder and share great insight… sometimes we find all we need through thinking on questions with deep roots…
I just noticed the cone flower at the top of your page…I love it! Cone flowers are my favorite flower…(especially the yellow ones…the purple ones are most common around here.
Thanks DM, glad you like it. I put it there because there was so much rain this week. Today it snowed.
Hey I just saw on Headline News (Nov 14, 2008) where there is this big deal with senior citizens having this big Wi bowling competition.
Haha, I couldn’t but help to think about you.
Aren’t you the one who said they Wi bowl?
LOL!! Yes, we do it every night.
Okay Joy… how long are you going to leave up that “I’m 50 years old” thing? lol
Okay, I’ll go edit it!!!!
Just checking… glad I was able to make an honest woman out of you! haha
Hi Joy!
I love your blog and visit it daily! Would it be ok if I added you to my blogroll??
Absolutely Gary. I would be honored.
Done!
Take a look around my blog and maybe add me to your blogroll?
I just did Gary and for sure will add you. Nice to meet you.
That’s great! Nice to meet you Joy!
I can’t believe nobody answered you before this. A “thick wooly jumper” is a sweater. A thick, warm, wooly sweater. I’m getting all toasty thinking about it.
And for a Brit! yum.
…
hello joy!
thank you for the compliments on the iloveyou notes. it makes my heart feel that i am doing just well.
it’s nice to get to know you more through your blog! it seems like you live in a very nice place. my parents have a farm in the countryside back in the philippines, and i miss it very much!
Are we related? I have so many interests and hobbies that I’m never bored, but since I also get stuck on one or two at a time that years may pass before I get back on the same thing. I’ll make 4 afghans, then the 5th stays half-done for 3 years; my scrapbooks are desperate to take them past the 1960s; now I’m creating handbags (and related items) to sell since I’ve retired from teaching (I hope I get stuck in this craft long enough to get a decent inventory!).
My husband and I bought a (used) bookstore several years back, so I have to be careful not to get on the reading treadmill too often or I’d never get anything else done!
Like you, I’m also in my 50s: mother of 3 grown sons, (25, 30, and 32) and grandmother of 2 (2 week-old boy and 3 year old girl). My latest addiction is Facebook – that’s how the family communicates and how I keep up with former students – but it’s still new to me and I really do need to tune it down a bit!
We do sound alike. I have to admit to spending an awful lot of time on Facebook lately. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you do so again. Join our bunch. We have a great group here.
hi joy thanks for telling about this
Mike, great to see you here. I hope to see you often.
Thanks for all your kind comments and help.
Behold the beauty of my hyperlinked blue name!
Many thanks
Mark
Anytime Mark. I got an awful lot of help when I first started too. It’s friends that make the world go round. Having your name linked saves a lot of time and will bring people back to your blog.
I’ve been reading this blog for a while and I just realised there is a page about you here! I am slow.
Anyway, I hope to read more of your wonderful and hilarious posts!
Hi Joy,
Don’t know if you remember me, I had the “keekers” blog last summer.
Was just reading my old blogs and remembered you!!
I had to quit blogging…my ex and his new wife heard about my blog and were faithfully reading it and making comments to my children – not in a kind way, so I decided I would give it a rest.
I am thinking of starting a new one – I did enjoy it so much!
I see you’ve added some friends, so I intend to catch up with the massive blogging queen you’ve become…wow! what a year can produce!
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I’m still here and haven’t forgotten your comments to my “old” blog. I’ll invite you to my new one, when I get it started.
Glad you’re still here!
Kelly
Absolutely I remember you. Blogging Queen..oh how I love flattery. Thank you so much. It’s been a lot of work and it continues to be a lot of work. That’s why we do this together and are a team of many. I’ll come back to your blog and check you out. Thanks so much for stopping by. It’s great to see you.
Joy, just wanted to say thanks for all the times you read my blog. I’m closing G-Ma’s View down, as I don’t have the time to devote to making it a great site. I’ve really enjoyed your site and will be back to check on it. Thanks again, and email me any time!
Thanks G-Ma. I know how time consuming it is to keep a blog interesting and new. I do hope you feel free to come here any time you want.
