I have been ranting and raving to my husband about this for days so I think he’s tired of hearing it. So, I thought I’d share my feeble little thoughts about this.
Is anyone else sad about the state of the Olympics? I feel bad for the athletes. I know that I am very naive and tend to walk around wearing rose colored glasses but I “thought” the Olympics were for the COMING TOGETHER of countries. Politics and everything else set aside.

I feel so for the young athletes who are understandably very excited being they are so young. Then I feel for the older ones who this may be their last shot for the gold, silver, bronze or just the chance to participate.
I also know that I tend to be simplistic but really, can’t we just let the games go on without all this protesting? I agree with organized protesting but the Olympics? Am I alone here in my thinking? Let the games begin or protest China? I just don’t know.
What do you all think? Please post comments so we can talk. Without comments, we don’t know how you feel.
I agree with you! It’s not like you get a chance to compete in the Olympics every day. For many if not most of these youngsters, they only have this one chance, and they have worked so hard for this.
It feels like the world is saying “so what” to their amazing accomplishments.
I haven’t been watching the news minute by minute; the last I heard, there hadn’t been many embarrassing protests in the US. But if that changes, I will be even more disappointed. Folks, let’s show some maturity. The time to protest China’s Olympics was at the time Beijing was chosen as the site, if at all.
If a young person has worked all his life to be an Olympic champion, how can people now tell him that he is instead a political statement? Those athletes who don’t already loathe politics likely will after this nonsense.
Joy, you rock. I like to see your opinions!
Thanks SKL. I appreciate your commenting.
I totally agree! I guess I must have been living under a rock for awhile. I didn’t even realize people were upset until I saw news today about protests in San Francisco. Then I was just plain confused. I had never even heard of anyone protesting the Olympics, it was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard!
I too had always thought it was about everyone coming together. I always expect a fair amount of competition and even a fair amount of cheating, but protests? Why?
Geez….how many other places in the world WEREN’T chosen for the Olympics…get a grip folks!
😉
Aren’t you glad you asked Joy?
There will always be those who say people have the right to peaceful assembly’s and I agree with that for the most part but it bothers me when it’s the Olympics. Just because it involves young people who train for this all their lives and might only have this one chance and now this cloud is hanging over them. I say the right to protest should have been when China was announced to be the site. Not now when it involves the torch. It’s to close and I hate the publicity of it. I feel it takes something away from the athletes.
