I don’t get it!

The Blue Truck

The Blue Truck

Men are weird.  Not that I didn’t know that already, but this morning just confirmed my suspicion!  When I got home this morning, I started cleaning the house b/c nothing had been done last night while I was gone.  No big surprise…that was a previous post.  Today is also garbage day so I went around to all the cans, emptied them, and took it outside.

On my way to the garbage can I thought I should check out my husband’s truck and throw away any garbage in there.  I knew full well there was garbage in there b/c he NEVER throws it out!  I open the door and am amazed.  Thankfully, he doesn’t have piles of fast food bags or month old food in there.  He just has water bottles (at least 3 at all times, with water still in them, one is not even open!), his pay stubs from 3 years ago, loose change, cords from cell phones long ago, and other misc. junk that does not need to be in a truck.  He has a sand box on the floor (I am exaggerating at this point, but really it’s a lot of gravel/rocks), pieces of candy from the kids that fell, and everything is covered in dust.  The center console thing is so dirty that I pry it out so I can wash in with soap and water.  I proceed to clean out his truck for the next 45 min!  I vacuumed, shook out the mats (which were NASTY), and dusted.  How he read the speedometer is beyond me!

My car is no immaculate space either, however, I’m not afraid to look under the seats!!!  What I don’t get is that his truck is his baby!  He loves this thing.  He will spend all afternoon washing it, polishing it, and then driving home at 5 mph just so it doesn’t get dirty.  If he takes such good care of it on the outside, why oh, why wouldn’t he take care of the inside??!!!!  I love him and all his craziness, but that was a little too much!  I’m going to wait and see how long it takes him to notice.

I can remember as a kid my parents giving me the task of cleaning out the cars….blech…eventually when I started getting old enough to catch on they started paying me an entire dollar…

    Sigh…and I kept doing it….

Our cars are always horrible on the inside and outside fairly equally. Not dented or anything, just dirty. Although I can’t cope with food containers and usually will bring those in quickly, but my husband will leave those in there indefinitely. Blech.

A few weeks ago I had to give a coworker a ride and I was mortified. Since then I’ve tried to have a system that as I walk into the house at the end of the day I make sure my hands are full. Granted it’s only been about 2 weeks, but the car is SO much cleaner than it’s been in a long long time. It doesn’t take care of the dirt, but it does take care of all the papers from daycare, shopping bags, kids clothes, toys etc that seem to make their way into the car and live there for way too long.

I don’t get it either. I’m just this same way. I HATE when there’s junk in my car. Every single time I go in the house from my car, I take any garbage out with me. I can’t stand for there to be stuff in my car. I’ve always been this way. I think I get it from my dad. Both my husbands vehicle and mine are always very clean on the outside but if you open any of his doors, watch out. You WILL be hit on the feet with water bottles. Some are like Sue mentioned and still full of water. A week ago today we were on our way to eat out and I got irritated and pulled right over to the garbage can and I’ll bet we threw away no less than 10 water bottles, napkins, Kleenex, paper, gum wrappers…..etc. I was also “afraid” to put my hand under the seats!

I also never eat in my car so I don’t have anything unless I stop for one of my favorite cappuccino’s and then I never leave that cup in the car either. I just feel I’m going in anyway, may as well take everything in with me. I also have many bad habits but this isn’t one of them.

An update…it took him only a second to see that I cleaned it when he opened the door yesterday afternoon:) At least he noticed!

It surprises me that he wouldn’t keep the inside clean b/c like you said that is his baby!! I can’t stand when Jason drives the Cadillac b/c he’s so messy I have to clean it out every time he does drives it. I feel better driving when the inside and outside is clean. But I’m a little OCD when it comes to things being clean. Just yesterday Jason told me I need help!!! I say it’s better than the alternative, right? I could be s for cleaning it I’m slob!!! I’m sure Toby was very thankful for you cleaning it for him.

That 2nd to the last sentence got messed up. It was supposed to just say I could be a slob!

I know some women like this, too. Hard to believe, and I know this is sexist to say, but WTH? Didn’t your mother teach you anything? Some people literally don’t see dirt. I wish I was one of them – then I would be more peaceful, since I have to deal with other people’s mess whether I like it or not.

I used to be a really neat and clean person. At some point I gave up. Some would say I lightened up. Whatever it is. I feel like the worst slob some days.

But, the inside of my car is clean. (A bit dusty, but otherwise clean.)

  8. Tosha says:

my car is full of kids stuff.. dh’s truck is so full of hunting stuff that we have to clean it out to go to the hunting club together.. you couldnt pay me to look in his back seat or under his seats..

I love that Amber, how true.

creatures they are not… they are their own species I tell you!

I also despise a mess in my vehicle because I’m in it to much. I have to have it organized or it drives me nuts. I keep garbage bags under my seat (in a little tote thing) and I always clean it out when I exit it. My husband on the other hand is like Tosha’s and hunts so his stuff is always all over the place. I think he has enough clothes in his that he could go away for a week and have enough clothes. I would NEVER put my hands under his seat!! That’s just to eeeewwww!

  13. Ali says:

We both keep our cars pretty neat. His is like his baby too but he keeps both of ours tidy. I think he just like to fool around in the cars. Washing, waxing and such. One thing I can’t complain about him about.
