The Olympics

I love the Olympics!  I don’t really know why, but I’ve been fascinated with them since I can remember watching them as a kid.  I think it’s because they are so good at what they do and what they have accomplished is amazing.  I will NEVER swim/run/jump/hit/row like those athletes do, but it makes you dream about “what if”.  What if I had tried out for the volleyball team in college?  What if I had taken up archery or equestrian?  After those questions you have to ask yourself, “would I have put in all the time and effort that these athletes have?”  I suppose if we were all really good at something and actually had a chance, we could say yes, we would have worked our butts off!

I think it’s fun to watch someone break a world record (Michael Phelps in the 400m IM!) and see their expression when they look up at the board and realize what they’ve done.  It’s just exciting!  The opening ceremonies are always beautiful (long, but beautiful) and to see so many people from around the world gather together for the “sport” of it makes peace seem possible for a few days at least!  Yes, there are the athletes who will test positive for drugs and those that will be accused, but for those that win a medal because of their blood, sweat, and tears makes watching the Olympics worth it.

Yeah I agree with you Sue the olympics are pretty cool. I don’t watch all of it but seeing Micheal Phelps win the 400m IM was pretty cool. Those athletes are really amazing at what they do and it takes yrs&yrs to get to that point and then it all comes down to one race “there’s no room for mistakes” I also know someone that almost made the olympics in 2004 for womens swimming but she just missed it by a little bit LOL!!!!

LOL John Elway…I mean Shane!! I know who that someone is LOL!!!! She’s so superior to the rest of us isn’t she?? Wait till I tell Sue and Nikki!! They’ll crack up!

I just love the Olympics too. The swimming and gymnastics last night were just something else. I do have to say, I love the winter games a lot more. One of my favorite parts is when they all walk in in their “country” colors. That opening ceremony makes me tear up every time. It does feel like we are all at peace.

Watching Micheal Phelps last night gave me the chills. What a nice young man. I love these games too. To bad we can’t always all get along this way. The stuggles these kids go through, it’s amazing.

I was SO EXCITED watching the men’s 4×100 relay on Sunday it was unreal! Both Toby and I were screaming at the TV and I just couldn’t believe they won! And then last night was Phelps again and men’s gymnastics and I’m so happy they won the bronze, but I have to admit that I went to be at 10:30! I was on call and knew that if I didn’t get some sleep I’d end up working, but caught up on it this morning. Boy, I’d better get my buns in the shower so I’m ready when the “live” stuff comes on!!!! Gotta go:)
