Oh, just to “be alone” with nobody checking on me would be nice no matter where I was. But, if I had to choose, I might choose the Grand Canyon. There is something so inspiring about that place.
The shower. Seriously, I’d love to take a long, water-wasting hot shower, being able to wash/condition/treat my hair, shave, get clean, without a kid or a cat in sight. I’ve had exactly 2 of these showers in the last 5.5 years… sheer bliss.
Also, the bedroom (when Tim is away). I guess the cats are allowed. : )
Anywhere near water be it. When I had my own place I lived a dune away from the beach and I would walk over to the beach every night and just sit and watch the waves or better yet take my pizza (regular) up the dune and sit there with some wine watching the sunset over the sea… ah how I miss it.
My favorite place to be alone is in the deep woods. A place where I may have to go through a swampy area to get into the old growth trees. I climb up in a stand with my binoculars and become part of the tree.
It is absolutely amazing what I have seen when I get in there before an hour before the sun rises. God’s created creatures are all around.
But my favorite thing about being in the deep woods is that for some reason I am more able to “connect” with my Creator.
Truly it is an amazing place and experience.
“In My Room” Sounds like the Beach Boys song. I absolutely love my room. Everything I own that I love is in that room. It has two 4×4 foot skylights, a cathedral ceiling made of barnboard, French doors out onto a deck, and two large triangular windows on one wall where the peak of the ceiling is. It’s also got a plant window with shelves. There are so many windows it’s like being outdoors. We had it done ourselves about 22 years ago.
I did a post once called “My Sanctuary” with lots of photos of my room. I took them at night so there aren’t any of the ceiling. http://joanharvest.wordpress.com/2008/02/15/my-sanctuary/
On the top of “my” mountains … I love that!
I seek to be alone in my bedroom at least once a day. It’s not fancy, but it is quiet and peaceful.
Out on my back deck. You can only get to it from my bedroom and it’s the best at night…so quiet and dark. I’ve been reading a new book, and that’s the best place to read other than the lake but I don’t get to go there alone.
Somewhere in the nature.. near the sea – is the best. But any quiet place would do..
@holeycheese -> Alone in the (or near) nature is fantastic … but I think the sea it is a good place during the winter season 🙂
innovatel – That depends on where you are.. I can mainly relate to the sea of northern Sweden.. which is covered by ice in the winter =/ Back there I like the summer better. Where I am now I’m too far away from the sea.. living in the Judean desert – which btw. is quite a peaceful view too.
@ holeycheese -> I live in Italy (near Milano) and I don’t have near me mountain and the sea. I don’t love the sea (and it’s not a secret) but if I’ll go there I think the winter is better … the temperature is not hot (I hate it) and the air is magic. The mountain have another kind of magic all the year … so I love that 🙂
innovatel, I tried going to your blog but I can’t read it. Sorry. Thanks for coming to mine.
@Joy -> No problem … I’m italian and so I don’t write in english. If you want to try to read you can click on the english flag. It’s a “blog translation” with google. It can be a point of start 🙂 bye bye 🙂
Thank you innovatel, I didn’t know that. I just got up and have already learned something new.
I really like being alone but don’t like to be lonely. Such a big difference. I love being alone at home and sit and look out the window at the animals. I love being alone out on my deck. I also love being alone near a lake of out in nature. That’s where daydreaming is at it’s best.
Yes Joy, there really is a difference between being lonely and being alone. I love to go sit at our gravel pits in the summer. It’s so peaceful and relaxing. We do make it a rule not to swim when we are alone though. I like to go there, spread out a blanket and read.
