My baby Abbi is going to be a Mom!

I’m big on spaying and neutering your animals. Unless you’re breeding and you plan on getting shots for them all and selling them, I think you should get your animals fixed. We have always had our dogs spayed as soon as they were old enough, same goes for our cats. Well it didn’t work out that way with my beloved Abbi. I’ve suspected it for the last month but wasn’t sure. Today I felt the babies move!! Total amazement. I’ve never had a cat get pregnant.

My Mom bred Rottweilers when I was young but she did everything, I just watched. I remember it being amazing though watching her give birth and clean her babies. I’m looking forward to Abbi having her babies and watching her be a mom for the first time. I kind of feel like I’m gonna be a Grammy!!  Bailey is thrilled and very protective of her. Jason is too although he’d never admit it. He loves her so much. He said we get to keep one!!! I already have homes for the others and as soon as Abbi is able she will get spayed along with the new kitten. I think she’ll be a very good mom and I’m curious to see her interact with them.

I’m guessing she has probably 3-4 weeks left considering I was told that you start to feel them move around 5 weeks. I think they are only pregnant for 8 weeks right? Anyone know?  Any information would help, I’m a little nervous. I have names picked out already but Jason says no on “Allie” because he’s saving that name for our next dog. We’ll see:) Noah for a boy…Allie or Noah, from The Notebook. I wanted to name Abbi, Allie but Abbi just fit her perfectly. So if anyone has any advice, I know she’s only a cat and she’ll do everything on her own but like I said in the beginning she’s more like my child than just a cat.

Good luck on this. I had one litter like this and ended up having one of the best cats I ever had. Little Boy lived to be 17. We had a ball having those kittens. I ended up with 6 and had homes for all of them. It was kind of funny but the last three all died the same year. Two years ago we lost Little Boy, Darryl had Myles and Mom had Patty. I did some research for you. Cat’s are pregnant for 9 weeks.

Little Boy was the best huh?? Hey thanks for that link, I’ll check it out. We’re very excited, it’s the first litter of kittens we have ever had. I never had a cat growing up so it’ll be interesting:)

Nikki, this must be exciting for you if it’s your first time. Joy is right, nine weeks for a cat. You shouldn’t have to do anything. She should know how to do it all by herself and probably won’t want you around. Personally, I’d leave her alone. Make her a spot, quiet and dark and private. Maybe a spot in a closet in the room she sleeps in. She might go there to have them but might not. If she does, keep an eye on her but for the most part leave her be. If you are hovering over her you might make her nervous and then she’ll want to move and that might be hard for her. No matter how much she loves and trusts you, when she’s giving birth she will want to be alone and have quiet.

Once the kittens are a few days old, she’ll probably move them around from time to time. It’s just what they do. Good luck and I hope to see some pics after they arrive.

Keep your dressor drawers closed! We had a cat who climbed in one of ours to have her litter. lol It was kinda cute.

Start looking for adoptive homes now… don’t wait. Tell them it’s first come first serve.

    Good luck.

Hey thanks~ she is going to have them behind my bed I know it!! She keeps going back there. I want her to feel safe though so I will allow her to have them where ever her little heart desires. She’s very moody right now. She loves her belly rubbed but only by me and only when she wants it. But that’s normal!!

Jane I knew you’d have some great advice for me. I’ll let her be but that will be very hard!! Thanks sweetie!!

Abbi is having her babies right now. At 7:20 I heard heavy breathing next to me and there she was between the bed and the wall on the floor. She’s only had one so far and it looks just like her. Does anyone know how long it lake to have them all??? It’s been over an hour and she’s only had the one??

  8. Candi says:

It could take awhile before she has anohter one, just be patient.

  9. Joy says:

Hey Nick, it could take all day. Keep us posted. I know your excited but try not bother her. Yippee. Bailey will be so excited when he gets home.

  10. nikki says:

I’m leaving her alone. Bailey saw the first one so he already knows. He is very excited.

Nikki, if this is her first litter, she could take days to have them all. Just keep a distanced eye on her to make sure she’s comfortable and her breathing is okay. Make sure she has water available. If she won’t drink, take a washcloth and dip it in the water and let her lick it. Keep us posted. You’ll know if she’s in trouble. I’m so excited for you. I’ll come back on later to check. I’m guessing with a first litter she could have anywhere between 3-6 kittens.

What??? I called the vet because it’s been 8 hours and still only one baby. They told me to bring her in right away. I’m guessing they just want my money huh?? How rude!! Thank you Jane so much. She won’t drink so I will do that. She is eating and her breathing is normal. Thank you so much, that really helps me out. I’ll keep you posted.

  13. Jane says:

Did they say why you should bring her in? Don’t go by me. I’d hate for something to happen to your cat.

  14. Jane says:

It’s getting late now isn’t it? I’d hate for something to happen to her after hours. Use your best judgement.

  15. nikki says:

They always say that to me. I think they have to. I told her she was acting fine. She went downstairs for the first time and got a drink (she will only drink out of our dog’s bowl) she’s doing fine. I will keep a watchful eye for anything abnormal. The babies are still moving inside her.

  16. nikki says:

Hey, an update on Abbi. I decided to take her the vet today because she was just very quite and did not seem herself and it’s a good thing I did. She still had one more baby in her but it had been gone for awhile. The doctor actually said it was practically mummified. Abbi is doing well and the one baby is doing great . She did say that bringing her in any later than today the Abbi would have started becoming toxic and that IS NOT good. I think when I felt the baby yesterday I either imagined it moving or it just got moved somehow. I don’t know but all is well and I’m so relieved!! She will be staying over night to monitor. PHEEW!!!! Oh and she’s spayed so no more babies, this has been too much for me!!

  17. Jane says:

Gosh Nikki. I feel so bad. I’m so glad you took her in. I feel like I gave you bad advice but our cats usually just take care of themselves. I’m so glad she’s okay and glad she’s spayed now.
