I usually don’t send any. Honestly, it is painful to shop for birthday cards. Either it’s “oh cherished mother, thank you for all the loving caresses when I skinned my knee bla bla bla” or “OMG, you are OLD isn’t that HILARIOUS???”
If I must, I will try to find a humorous one that isn’t an insult and hasn’t been beaten to death already. But lately, I’ve been stuck buying a lot of those sickly sweet ones. I am going on 42 and that’s a lot of times to say, twice a year, “Dad, thanks for raising me to be so brilliant and humble. I did actually notice your contribution.”
Sorry, but I feel actions speak louder than words. There are times when you absolutely have to send a card – sympathy, etc. – but the rest of the time, I feel I’m just making myself and the recipient feel uncomfortable.
I send one of each always, I do this because I have two personalities… got to keep them both happy.
It depends on who I send them to.. but I prefer humorous
I send humorous snarky ones to my mom, and religious ones to my mother-in-law. Nobody else gets cards from me, unless I’ve made one myself. I have no preference when receiving: my husband buys and hides cards all over the house for me, sometimes they’re mushy and sometimes they’re funny.
It depends on the occasion and the person its going to. I’m not one of these people who go in and get hte first card I see.. I put alot of thought into the cards I send people.. I spend a long time browsing cards to find the perfect card..
I also like looking for the “perfect” card, but they are usually humerous. It’s more fun to laugh at occasions than cry unless of course crying is warranted.
I tend to go for the perfect card too but usually always have a funny side to them.
I tend to buy serious ones for family and funny ones for friends.
With me it also depends on who I’m buying a card for. I too, really take my time picking a card. I don’t just pick the first one I read. For some I would never buy serious and for others, serious seems to “not” fit them.
I don’t send a lot of cards but I usually make them which I guess makes them funny. They usually come out looking like a third grader made them. I’m not very artistic. Oh well, it’s the thought that counts. I’m too cheap to give Hallmark any of my money. When my daughter’s best friend got married last year I made her card and put the three dollars that it would have cost me to purchase a card in the card I made(along with a nice check) telling her I’d rather give her the $3 than Hallmark.

I usually go with humorous. I like to see people laugh.
I always look over the cards looking for the right one .
