I’m addicted to lip balm! Are you?

Hi my name is Joy and I’m a lip balm addict.

I’m ready to admit that I’m addicted to lip balm but didn’t really realize it until I was watching a news program and it just came on. Then I did some reading on it and yep, I’m an addict.

Is this really a big deal though?  I mean really? I’m not even sure when I started “using” although I can tell you I can’t remember when I didn’t “use” it.  As far back as I can remember, I’ve had it with me always.

I have it in my purse, windowsill in kitchen, drawer in desk, on my nightstand, in most of my jacket pockets and in my car.  It’s kind of hard to admit that I have it in so many places.  I also have to have a certain kind that’s only made in the UK so I order it from there at like 20 a time.

So, all things considered, I’m wondering if it’s that big of a deal. Why would it be on a news program?  I also know a whole lot of people who have it on them all the time.  It’s not just me.  The article I found explains the menthol flavor makes your lips tingle and that’s what you really like but I don’t use that kind.  It also says it’s caused by licking your lips but I don’t really do that to often either.  I just like the way it feels.  I also use it way more at night and during the winter.  I don’t use it most days all day long but once night comes, I’m putting it on over and over.

Do I have a serious problem?  Do you have this problem too? Are you walking around with a tube of it in your pocket???

PS…..I have a an addiction to hand lotion too!!!

Okay how weird is this? I open my laptop to shut it off for the night and as I’m putting my Carmex on I see this, “I’m addicted to lip balm, are you?” Why yes I am but I’ll explain more tomorrow, I have to get to bed. Oh too funny Joy!!!

  2. SKL says:

No, I’m not addicted, and yeah, this is a serious problem.

I think I heard that Cindy McCain was once addicted to lip balm, and now look what’s happened to the polls.

Why would they have it on the news? I don’t know, who knows what motivates these people? I recall a report about the sinister conspiracy to make people addicted to wheat. I think they were blaming McDonalds for that one. I thought at the time, dang, I eat wheat every single day and I like it! I miss it when I don’t have starch! I must seriously be addicted! So . . . what’s the problem? I gotta eat something – at least it’s not red meat or psychadelic brownies.

Unless they have also identified a bad side effect of lip balm, I suggest you embrace your addiction. Shoot, I’m addicted to controversial political stuff on the internet – what’s worse?

I refuse to admit I am addicted – nah I am just dang fussy with lip balm, some the taste and the smell just make me feel sick, I can’t handle vaseline etc but I NEEEEED lip balm so I go for strawberries. Hand cream I can’t live without, my hands feel like they are going to break off or worse shatter if I don’t put on regularily so have tubes everywhere, sadly the specialised stuff

You aren’t alone, that is one thing for sure!

  4. Laura (LS) says:

Yep… been addicted for years. But I’m fussy. No Blistex or Carmex for me – that menthol stuff dries my lips out something fierce!

I prefer non-flavored, as well, since I’ll lick the stuff off if it tastes too good!

My biggest “weirdity”? I apply A&D Ointment every night before bed. Can’t be Vaseline (although I’ll use that in an emergency). But that A&D seems to really help the chapped-ness, especially in winter.

And, let’s see, I’m a one-brand woman – fortunately, I don’t have to send overseas to get it – and I have two tubes in my purse (one has “a hint of color”), one in each bathroom, one in my pool bag, one in the gym bag, and several in the garage and barn. Can’t keep them in the truck, since they melt in there.

I am so glad I’m not the only one! I have a tube in my pocket right now, one on my bedstand, one in with my makeup in the bathroom, one in my purse, one in my car, one in with my massage stuff, and one free-floating tube that’s who-knows-where right now. I never run out, because I’m always buying new tubes, and I have no idea when (or if) I’ve ever used up an entire tube.

Because I have skin reactions to a lot of chemicals, I use Burt’s Bees lip balm with pomengranate. It has a nice, very subtle tint, and it smells delicious! My daughter uses their lip balms with color for dressing up, but they have peppermint oil which irritates my lips. I love the stuff, and it’s easy to find everywhere! And I must wear it, because if I don’t, and my lips get dry, I will peel them and make them worse, because I cannot stand dry lips.

Also addicted to my massage oil, which I use in winter when my skin gets dry. Easier than lotion, and I can mix my own scents. I use grapeseed oil with lemon and lavender – it’s not greasy, and alone has no real scent. I miss using regular body lotion, though – I used to collect it. But it irritates my skin now, other than my hands/feet – so I just don’t use it.

I use carmex when my lips get chapped but that is it. My youngest daughter, who is 9, is the addict in my family. She keeps lip balm in her pocket, by her bed and in her little purses. She is a hand lotion addict as well! I am glad to see she is not alone! 🙂

  7. slightlyignorant says:

You’re lucky you’re an addict! I have this huge problem with not putting lip-balm on ENOUGH in the winter and my lips end up chapped and aching and ugly and I wish I could be one of those who put it on as second nature.
It is not an addiction, I say! It is a blessing! A good habit!

  8. Laura (LS) says:

Burt’s Bees ROCKS!!! I have the pomegranate stuff, too, for color, but I swear by the Honey Lip Balm.

  9. Joy says:

My husband and youngest son always have a tube of Burt’s in their pockets. I’m so glad I’m not alone!!

  10. nikki says:

I have to have some sort of chap stick. The problem I have is I can’t ever find a tube when I need it so I buy more, and more, and more!! If I think it looks good or if it smells good I buy it. The stands at the cash register are my worst enemy!! I like Carmex(in the click stick) never in that jar you have to stick your finger in. I like regular Chap Stick, Soft Lips, Burt’s, and my new favorite…Mentha Lip Shine from Bath & Body. I lip balm, lip shine, lip gloss…If it’s an addiction then I welcome it!!! I never have chapped lips!!! Oh and by the way Joy, even walking past the lotion aisle and seeing St.Ives Swiss Vanilla, I think of you.

  11. Amber says:

Joy honey… you are too funny. I don’t seem to have any such fun addictions… dang what a bore am I!

  12. Sue says:

I’m not an addict, but I use it. I have noticed that if I put it on without having chapped lips, I end up with chapped lips! Does that even make sense?? I do like the Bee’s Wax though:)

  13. Eric & Tessa says:

I love it Joy. lol It’s a woman thing. Burt’s Bee Wax is my fav too, Sue.

Woman love anything that smells good or feels good or tastes good or looks good on right?

The news mostly airs things that are too trivial or too disturbing.

Ok, I am seriously addicted to blistex and curel hand cream. i have one in my purse, pocket, nightstand, bathroom, beside the chair i sit in to watch t.v., kitchen and a bunch of spare just in case! my family tease me about it all the time and my one brother won’t let his kids use any kind of hand cream or chap stick because of me. i really would like to break the addiction. i never thought i had an addictive personality because i use to smoke a half a pack of cigarettes a day and when i quit – i quit cold turkey and it was easy. well, good luck !
