I’ll say Mother Teresa, since she’s my favorite role model, and I’d love to try the truly simple life if only for a day. (Do deceased people count?)
Only one person??? Cause if I could cheat and make it more than one I’d get all the cookie monster stealing peoples together and have a laugh 🙂 in an ideal world huh
I was going to put down an entirely immature answer, and then I read SKL’s and felt bad. It was a fictional person, though, so maybe it wasn’t all that bad. }: )
I’d have to pick instead one of the Founding Fathers, and I’d get them to specificall enummerate which rights are indeed a part of the Constitution, and what isn’t specifically covered. And then I’d show them how messed up politically we’ve become… and if the FF lasted that long, we’d chat over dinner. Because I’d be hungry by then.
I would pick my father, I have a lot of questions only he can answer. Plus I have a few things I’d like to say to him that I never had the chance to. Put a few things to rest and I can feel a lot better!!! It’s amazing even after almost 9 years the kinds of things that still have a good hold on to you.
Heh… Goddess… I’ve often had that very same thought… “I wonder just how Washington and Jefferson would feel about what’s going on in 2008? If only I could go back there, with a VIDEO RECORDER, and get their take on all of this…”
And then, of course, my mind wanders to ‘what if?’… What if somebody actually DID that? Would it affect the writing of the Constitution? Would the Founding Fathers, having met with Laura of the Future, go back and change the Constitution to say, for example, “Yes, we REALLY mean that any Joe off the street may have a gun with NO RESTRICTIONS. Period.” And if they did, how would the country be different today?
So, yeah, I guess I’d have to go with that answer… I think I’d like to sit down with one of the Fathers and pick their brains.
Or maybe Mark Twain. I think I would really have liked him.
Goddess, I actually wrote a much less high-minded answer first, then deleted and rewrote it because it was too personal. Truth is, I had someone else in mind, but it isn’t internet fare. (No, nothing “bad,” just personal.)
Laura, I like your thinking. But on the other hand, something tells me that if we went back in time, we’d be less impressed with our founding fathers in many ways. Textbook history has no doubt erased a lot of conflicts of interest, power plays, negotiating to the “lesser evil,” etc. Then too, would the founding fathers be able to relate to the global context – though US gov’t is getting far too liberal for my tastes, we’re still conservative compared to most other Western countries I can think of. Aargh, I think I’d like to go back to the old way, but only if I were a white man . . . .
Can I change my answer? I’d like to meet one of them, drug them, and then convince them to write somewhere in the Constitution that courts are not allowed to legislate period, that the 10th amendment is very important, oh, and to beat the crap out of Jefferson for that separation of church and state business. I do agree with both of you guys, though, about the consequences of changing the Constitution and how we might be let down by those we hold in high esteem (I mean, I respect Reagan fully, but even I know he was far from perfect).
As for my original answer, I don’t know if any of y’all watch Torchwood or Dr. Who… but I’d like to spend a day with Capt. Jack Harkness. Because he’s awesome. And very good-looking… and yes, I love my husband!
I would like to spend it with an astronaut in orbit. To see the Earth from up there and see what space is really like would be amazing. Of course, I’d have to get over my fear of falling first!
I would want to spend a day alone with Lisa. It’s been to long. We would drink coffee and laugh. Talk and laugh. Eat junk food and laugh. Finally drink beer and laugh.
Let’s see I would actually like to spend it with my hubby. Let’s see what would we do? Hmmm….
I’d spend the time with my husband. I never get enough time with him. I’m sure we’d find all kinds of ways to pass the time!
it would be the person I have the most fun with and always have, my daughter. We would go shopping and have lunch which we do at least twice a month. I just always have such fun with her. I can’t think of anyone else I would rather spend a whole day with.
My husband. Hands down. We have been helping a hurt neighbor for the last month and we really need a break.
I’d want to be with my daughter Glory who lives many states away from me with her husband. We’d go shopping, to the movies, lunch and just hang out. Heck ask me in 2 weeks and she’ll be 21 so we could go out for Happy Hour! THAT would be interesting!
I would be Angelina Jolie. I admire her. I would travel one place neat like an island, see what she does in a 3rd World country and help a little, relax with an expensive bottle of wine on her luxurious bed with Brad Pitt 😉 LOL
ohh, shoot, I thought the question was who would you be! LOL Well then, I would BE WITH her or Brad Pitt for the day-LOL
WOW- I am real surprised all the husband answers! I spend enough time with mine, I feel very fortunate.
SKL, there is always the Dalai Lama! I’d have to flip on this one…
Sue, I love your answer. I’ve always dreamed of that too!
