Both but lean toward scratch.
Good question Sue. I do both also. I tend to really only use boxed potatoes such as the “au gratin” or “julienne” kinds when we cook outside with steaks or pork chops. Things like that. If I cook in the oven I usually make mashed potato’s but real ones. I hate instant mashed potatoes. I do use stove top stuffing but only for Christopher and Sue as a side dish. I’m not a stuffing fan or either are my boys so I would have never used stove top before. But if I stuff a bird, I make real. That’s really about the only things I use from a box. They are so convenient though.
Boxes and cans are my friends! If it ever takes me more than a half hour to get dinner on the table, I’ve done something very wrong.
You may think that is awful of me, but I’m pretty sure my kids are better off the less I improvise . . . .
Right now I am too scared to cook so generally it is something that has instructions that I can’t mess up (but always end up doing)… need a new brain, a chef one! hmph
Both. It’s hard to cook from a box on the grill.
I do almost everything from scratch with fresh meat and fresh vegetables etc. Sometimes I cook up to three meals at the same time so I don’t have to cook every day. It saves me a lot of time.
I don’t like the idea of letting my kids grow up on a diet based on perservatives and artificial crap. Plus the real stuff is yummier too.
I don’t judge anyone.. this is just how I feel.
Both… I often take a boxed product and make it into something really special. But for every day, I try to stick with fresh ingredients.
I’m like Holeycheese. Plus, I just like cooking because it comforts me. In my mind cooking from scratch is a labor of love!
It all depends on how I am feeling that day! I use both, but I always add a doraz twist to it! Good question!
depends. I like those Banquet homemade bakes that come from a box.
Last night I made a real roast, pots, carrots and a pumpkin pie for dessert (ok the pie came from a box)..the rest was real food.
I will use box for some side dishes every once in a while. I prefer scratch because I like being able to pronounce the things I am putting into my body!
Most of the time it’s scratch, because both Sparky and I cook, although now that he’s blind, it’s a much bigger project!
I have a few go-to boxes that I use, my current favorite is Macaroni Grill’s “Basil chicken and pasta”. I’ll also used boxed ingredients in a scratch dish, like stove-top stuffing in an otherwise from-scratch chicken dish.
Cakes, I make from scratch – I have a killer chocolate mayonnaise cake (yes, it has mayo in it, I know it sounds gross, but it’s seriously moist) – and decorate them as well. I’m learning to do fondant, which is like play-dough for bakers!
I also make cookies and breads from scratch, although I haven’t figured out the perfect bagel recipe yet…
Oh, I don’t buy boxes and cans with preservatives and such. It’s all organic and healthy. You might be surprised at how much good stuff there is out there nowadays. Pricey, though.
I do both. More from scratch than box though. I put just about anything in my slow cooker. I do use the Betty Crocker side dishes if I’m not in the mood to do a lot of cooking. I love baked potatoes, so often I’ll opt for them rather than boxed. I can’t stand instant potatoes, I love mine… I keep the skin on.
I guess both. I don’t have my own garden so my veggies come from the freezer and I do like Stove Top like Joy said. I’m not wild for the boxed juilian potatoes or instant potatoes, but sometimes it’s just easier!
