Potluck

Since Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, some of us at work decided to do something fun.  We’re having a potluck!  Now, I realize that a potluck doesn’t sound like a barrel of laughs for many of you, but we in surgery love to have them.  I think it’s because at any point in the day you can eat something good.  If you get a break in the morning you know there will be something good waiting for you.  You’re lucky if you get to eat lunch on time, but with potluck there’s always so much food that you’re sure to get to eat something no matter what time it may be.

To put the “fun” in it, we also decided to bring in pictures from our wedding day!  I am the 2nd youngest (at age 29) in our department so we thought it would be fun to see what everyone looked like “back in the good old days”!  I have to say I’m excited to see everyone’s pictures.  The hair styles, the clothes, the bridesmaid dresses.  It’s going to be a hoot!  So, I pulled out my pictures this morning to try and find some to bring.  The problem?  I don’t have a nice 8×10 picture of Toby and I on that day.  To save some money we thought we’d be smart and have family take pictures for us.  That worked out to a point.  After the pre wedding craziness (flower people didn’t have my flowers, Jason had to run an hour home to get his tux b/c he forgot it, my sister wasn’t ready when I picked her up to go get our hair done so of course we’re late getting to the salon) we thought we were in the clear.  We were getting married outside (always a challenge) and the weather had been holding out UNTIL we arrived at the park.  It started to rain.  And rain.  And rain.  Then, being spring in Minnesota, the mosquitoes came out in HOARDS!!!!!  I am not kidding!  It was HORRIBLE.  So, no pictures before the wedding since it was raining and very few after because no one could stand still long enough to have one taken.  Don’t get me wrong.  I MADE the wedding party stand out in those mosquitoes so I could have some pictures.  It’s just none of them turned out “perfect”.  The only time I think about not have a picture is when something like this comes up, but then I think, I have a pretty good story to go along with that day so it doesn’t really matter!  We still got married and we still had one heck of a party afterward!  As always, the sun came out in the afternoon and it ended up being a beautiful day.

So, for Valentine’s Day, pull out your old wedding photos and have yourself a good laugh.  If you’re not married yet, I’m sure you know someone who will share their pictures and story with you and you can laugh with them.  It really is neat to see how we change over the years.  To see what fad was big when and to remember how we “use to be”.  Then we can thank our lucky stars we got over that look and moved on to bigger and better things!

    CAPTION FOR FIRST PHOTO READS:

Groom: “What’s that honey? Huh? What? I can’t understand you!”

Best man says in a whisper: “Stop stareing and touching yourself! C’mon, can’t up wait just a little while longer?”

ROFLMAO!!!!! I will never forget that day…well the parts I remember!!!! It didn’t help we were right next to the river!!!! It turned out beautiful though and I’ll never ever forget watching you two under that gazebo saying your vows. I get teary eyed thinking about it. Oh and the pain I was in!!! I went tanning like 2 days before and burnt the heck out of myself, so wearing that dress was not entirely comfortable!!
I love pot lucks too!!! You’re sure to find something you like and like you said you can eat whenever. What are you taking??? Oh no I think I just broke my foot, looks like like I ‘ll be taking a trip to Hutch!!!! 🙂 Save some for me!!!

You could always just Google Image Search a picture of a mosquito and frame it……

    🙂

  5. The pictures are pretty- I can’t see anyone fidgeting at all! You must have really made them stand still :P.

My parents married on what was probably the hottest night of the year in LA [judging by the sweat in all the pictures] and wore hippie clothing. Ah, the leftover glory of the 70s in the early 80s…

Everyone looks happy! Nice photo! Enjoy your pot luck!

  7. What a drag; but you all look beautiful! What a fun way to celebrate Valentines; I love it!

We have pot luck lunches at our office every couple of months; matter of fact, we are having one next week for a coworker who is leaving. It is a great way to bring people together and have a lot of good, homemade food!

I will never forget that day either. From the torrential downpours to Jason and his tux, to the mosquitoes and Cathy running for all the umbrella’s! It was beautiful though. Those mosquitoes were the worst!! You could see them on everyone!! The JP calling Toby “Chris” was humorous too and you just up and called him Toby…LOL!!! Those umbrella’s now that I look back, made a great accessory for the “boys” didn’t they??

Now if we want to remember the “night” and the reception….my memory is “slightly blurred” on some incidents! LOL!!!

I love potlucks. What did you take? I’m guessing a dessert. Brownies or your famous jello cake???

  9. nikki says:

I thought those umbrella’s made it perfect!!!! Very classy. The night….ummmm I very well could have fallen asleep in my front yard that night if it weren’t for Jason!! Just to give you an idea. 😉

  10. Joy says:

“Fallen asleep???” More like “passed out!!!” Me and your mom…..OH MY!!

  11. Sue says:

Yeah, it was a great day considering everything! When Jason said he didn’t have his tux, I thought I was going to pass out! I think all I said was “he’d better hurry”. He did too!

Mssc54~ it does kinda look like they’re whispering to each other!

    Laura~ I never thought of a mosquito picture! That’s a great idea:)

I brought brownies with Reeces Peanut Butter chips in them. I thought they were yummy. We had so much food left over it wasn’t funny. The pictures! Oh, we laughed over them. The big puffy sleeves, the lacy high necks and long sleeves on others, the leisure(?) suits, the brown tux’s! Oh, the hair and the big dark glasses!!! It really did give us a laugh. Hope everyone has a Happy Valentine’s Day:)

Joy & Nikki~ I had some good reception photos, but as you can see I was nice enough to keep them out!

  12. Sue says:

Nikki, I don’t think you smiled in any of the pictures!

  13. Joy says:

Thank you Sue. *heavy sigh* I owe ya.

Jeff was pretty humorous that night too!!! Paul’s the one with the story there!!! LMAO!!!

  14. nikki says:

Really??? Well that sucks!! I swear I was happy, maybe uncomfortable but very happy! I know I have a picture of just you and I and I was smiling. Sorry! 😦 opps 🙂

  15. Joy says:

She was “smiling” at the reception pretty good!

  16. nikki says:

Haha..very funny! Should we talk about the bathroom incident?? ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!! 😉

  17. Gary says:

I think we should Nikki! What is the “bathroom incident”? 🙂

  18. Joy says:

No Nikki!!! I forgot about that!! LMAO!!!

  19. nikki says:

HA!! Okay we’ll leave that one alone…for now. Mwahahahahaha

  20. javajunkee says:

LOL we can snicker right? Could anybody pull out the two of you in photoshop in that second picture and blow it up?

if not there is nothing wrong with taking both pictures I think the first one is a riot!
See it’s THOSE kinds of things that make wedding photos/videos memorable!

  21. Joy says:

A riot???? Neither one of my boys could stay still for 5 seconds!!!!! Jeesh!!! It does look funny. I’d never seen it. mssc had it right on! I never noticed Toby’s right hand!!

  22. javajunkee says:

LOL I think I found the right hand issue! That makes it even more funny!
