About one time a month, I do a hands and knees routine in my kitchen. Otherwise, I do the everyday bucket and mop routine. I play it by what’s going on in my house on a daily basis!

Well, when I wash them, I prefer the hands-and-knees approach. Mostly I don’t wash them – we have a monthly maid service, and they don’t do such a great job, but who eats off the floor anyway? (Er – don’t ask my daughters that question.) We don’t really “cook” around here and we don’t have critters, so the floors don’t get too bad. I give the bathrooms a quick wipe-down periodically, and once in a long while, I get fed up with the kitchen floor and take matters into my own hands.

In the days before I had maid service, I used a mop, but I still got down on my hands and knees periodically. The mop always leaves behind some residue. It sucks to wash the floor and have it still look dingy.

Unfortunately, the image of me happily scrubbing a floor on my hands and knees is not politically correct in this day and age. I almost feel guilty admitting to it. Ha! This reminds me – I was recently chided (on another blog) for my offensive belief that a mother can manage the domestic duties without assistance from a husband. Indeed, I was insulting the husbands of the world by suggesting that. Sigh. Somewhere out there is a man who is being robbed of his destiny in the broom closet, because I am a single mom. Dude, if you read this blog, know that I am sorry, and hopefully some other woman will make it up to you.

I do both.. depends on how dirty it is.. but the kitchen I do hands-and-knees every week.

Neither. I use a Hoover FloorMate, and oh, I love it so. My house has a large amount of hardwood, and if I was on hands and knees scrubbing, I’d never get anything else done. And I just hate mops. No matter how I try, I can never get stuff really clean with a mop.

The floormate has a vacuum (great for the dog hair and road dust that gets tracked in here) which I use first, then go back over with the wet stuff… wood-friendly cleaner and scrubbers. I’m done in like 15 minutes. Best $80 I ever spent (of course, it’s up to $120 now, but still worth it).

If I had hard floors I’d buy one of those Hover FloorMates!!! Unfortunately this old house had stupid carpet everywhere except the bathroom!! I hand wash the tile in there. My next house……close to zero carpet!!

  6. Sue says:

I don’t do either. I use the Swiffer thing. My kitchen is not that big and I have no where to store a mop and bucket so that little do-dad was the best I could do!

  7. pammy says:

I use a sponge mop on my floors fro a fast clean. But occasionally I get on my hands and knees and do a good cleaning around corners and edges, especially in the kitchen and bathroom.I find it relaxing.Put on my country music, pail and sponge, get on the floor and away I go.Its a time to reflect and have fun.Cleaning is therapy for me 🙂

  8. Joy says:

    You sound like Nikki Pam.

  9. nikki says:

lol… I know she does!! I love to clean! It’s one of my favorite things to do…blare my music and go to town!!! When songs like “chicken fried” come on, I can’t help but dance!!! Have you all heard that song?? It makes me SO happy!!!

  10. Joy says:

Sue, I love your new pic. It’s adorable.

  11. SKL says:

I’m so glad to hear people say they love to clean! I thought I was the only one. Now if I could just find some time . . . .

  12. Sue says:

Thanks! Has it come up yet? It’s not up on my computer.

  13. Joy says:

    Yes, it’s cute

  14. SanityFound says:

Depends totally on how dirty it is, generally I use fancy floor wipey thingies – all depends 🙂

This floormate contraption sounds to die for though, I have this vacuum robot machine now is it like that?

  15. mssc54 says:

Actually, I use my tile and grout cleaning machine. It does an absolutely superb job (even our kitchen floor is vinyl).

As a matter of fact I did such a good job at removing all the dirty/sticky stuff from the floor my Mrs. slipped and fell night before last. She’s going to see the chiropractor tomorrow morning.

  16. Morocco says:

Mop and bucket, but for spills, hard to reach areas, or a quick touch-up; hands and knees.
