Usually the same morning – or if it’s a really long trip, the night before.

  2. Morocco says:

I like to do it gradually over a couple of weeks–I’m anal that way!

  3. Sue says:

It varies for me. If it’s a short trip, I’ll pack the day before. Longer trips I try to pack a few days in advance, but usually end up doing it last minute:(

Oh I’m really bad at this. I guess I’m like Morocco. I’ll start planning probably 2 weeks before I leave. I’ll make a list of the clothes I know I want to bring, and a list of all toiletries I need to bring. Packing…I start probably 3 days before I actually leave. I’m going to California in JUNE and I’m already going through my summer clothes to see what I need to buy.
I bet you’re SO excited Sue!!!!! Do you ever get my offer?? It’s still on the table.

For a quick, short trip….just before I go, I check the latest weather conditions so I know what to bring. A long trip…a week before, but I am always changing my stuff!-)*

I used to travel so much, I became pretty efficient at packing. I’d wait until the last minute because I don’t want to have clothes stuck in a bag for too long – nice stuff will wrinkle, and the everyday stuff might be needed before my trip. I’ve had almost every imaginable packing disaster and managed to live through them. The one thing that does scare me is that I could forget my dress shoes. I did this once when I had to drive 3 miles away, and I had to turn around after about an hour, because there was no way I was going to find another pair of dress shoes in time for a morning meeting. So now, I’m a bit anal about making checking on the shoes before I leave.

Once I went to China for 10 days and my bag never caught up with me. By the time I realized I’d have to buy clothes, and had run out of the spare undies I brought in my carry-on, I was stranded by bad weather in a town where nobody spoke English, separated from our guide/translator. Although my size is average in the US, it’s XL-XXXL in China, and they didn’t have much of my size. A friendly Chinese guy who knew about 10 English words (including “BIGGER!” :-P) tried to help, but he scurried away when I got to the underwear aisle. My credit card didn’t work and I had to put half of the stuff back to avoid being arrested for not having enough Renminbis. I got the evil eye a lot that day. But I had clothes for the remainder of the trip. Since then, I worry less about perfect packing.

I start packing in my head weeks before I go anywhere. I do as much as I can the earlier it is but some things I use right up to the minute that I leave. I’m a list maker though and do like to be ready. But when it comes right down to it, the day before and the morning of is when the suitcase get closed (or sat on to get the gang thing to shut!!). Not saying that I over pack or anything….

I also make a list of what I will need to bring weeks ahead of time.If its stuff i dont need,in the suitcase they go.My suitcase will be visable in my bedroom,a week before I go.I just keep adding stuff. The last stuff to be added is my toilitries. The day I leave i throw them in,close the bag and away I go.I have always been this way.I would lose my mind and forget something if I did it the nite be4 or the day I left.Thats just who I am.

  9. mssc54 says:

    This is an easy one.

    The night before.

But we don’t go on many trips.

  10. Gary says:

Taking a weekend trip or taking a two week trip really doesn’t matter as far as packing for me. If I’m leaving the house for a trip at 9:00am, I will begin packing at 8:50am. 🙂

  11. SanityFound says:

I can’t back in advance because my excitement drives me nutso so I always end up packing a few hours before I have to leave – that way I also don’t obsess about what I have forgotten to pack and if its enough, kinda just rush it and flee
