Aloha!!!

Aloha!

As I am typing this I am somewhere over the Pacific Ocean and can see nothing but the bright sun shining through the clouds. Sure, it sounds better than what we left, but there’s no place like home.

We left MN this morning bound for Maui, all I wanted was to get out before the snow hit. Thankfully, we did! It sounds like only by a couple of hours, too. We made it through security, but it did take some patience! Long lines at check in made it possible for us to only grab some bagged snacks at the little magazine shop as we headed for the gate. The plane was overbooked and the guy at the counter was asking for volunteers to stay back and catch the next flight. In exchange, you got a free round trip ticket to anywhere in the USA good for the next 2 years. I thought about it for a split second and then remembered the snow and thought, “no way am I missing vacation for a free ticket!” A couple of poor saps did take the offer and I bet now they wish they hadn’t!

Our plane departed on time and the flight to Phoenix was nothing exciting. My nerves were shaky though before we took off. I’ve only flown 1 other time and it was 5 years ago so…I didn’t know what to expect. I do not like take off. At All!!!!! Landing is much better.

The 3 hour flight went by relatively fast. I got one book read! It was The Notebook and I thought is was a good book overall. It did make me teary eyed which I tried to hide on the plane! I finished the book just in time to see the mountains! Oh, what a glorious sight to behold! They were breathtaking! Snow capped peaks, the valleys, the foothills. I kept saying to Toby, look at that one, look over there! I have never seen the mountains before much less from the sky where the view is amazing. The sun was shining on them so the different colors in the different layers were ever so vibrant. Reds, browns, tans. Who knew they could be so beautiful?! As we descended into Phoenix and the mountains grew larger they grew more magnificent. The trees, the streams and the little cars that wove their way through the twists and turns. It made me wonder what I’m doing living in Minnesota!

uh, oh…not feeling so well typing on the plane….

Here are some pics from our hotel-room view.  The cute little blue convertible on the right is our car.

Have a great day and thanks for the post. Don’t worry about anything. The kids are doing great and you got out JUST in time. I am envious and will live through you as I know I will never take a trip like this. I am envious but would never fly there. Love you both. Keep the posts coming. I expect you to tell the tale of the “people” watching on the plane!!!

Have a wonderful time! I was in Hawaii (on the Big Island) back in 1995, and it’s a trip I’ll never forget. Enjoy every second of it and post lots of pictures.

  9. Joy says:

LOL G-Ma. I would have it if would have been me but this is my daughter in law Sue and son Toby. My dad is there too but they didn’t have time to visit with anyone. Just enough time to switch planes.

I am soooo jealous! I wish I was going to Maui…sigh…some day, maybe.

  11. Gary says:

Do you think you could bring me back my very own hula dancer Sue? ROFL!

  12. shanef says:

I’m so jealous. It looks really beautiful there. I don’t think I could fly there, if I ever go to Hawaii I think I’ll just swim there.LOL

  13. Joy says:

That’s funny Shane. Don’t forget your flippers 🙂

  14. Sue says:

Thanks everyone! It’s wonderful here. I will write another post about today and the people watching…oh my!!!!

Nikki, Toby heard and read that the locals feel it’s bad luck to take sand from the islands. I guess it has to do with when they die, they return to the Earth so if you take the Earth with you you take their spirits away. Sorry! Think of something else you want!

Gary, I had to pay enough for my 1 and only checked bag so there was no way I was paying for extra weight to bring you and no way I’ll pay for extra weight on the way home for a hula dancer. Although, you are the second person to request one! I’ll post pic’s instead:)

Shane, good luck swimming. There’s a whole lot of nothing. Toby did get some good pills from the doctor though. I should have taken one when I was trying to type because that was no fun feeling like I did!

  15. Gary says:

Never hurts to try right? LOL

Sounds GREAT! I’m looking forward to seeing the photos Sue! 😀

  16. Doraz says:

Sue, what part of Maui are you staying in? I was just there and there is a lot to do! My friend has a time share there. She knows the island really well, so if you have any specific things you like…let me know and I wull be sure to ask her advice. If you have it covered…Have fun! *)*

Loved the pictures, can’t wait to see more pictures! I feel like I’m on vacation . Fun in the sun, how fun is that? Don’t forget sunscreen. I bet that Minnesota white burns fast.lol Have a wonderful time Sue and Toby.

  18. Joy says:

Starla, NOBODY is Minnesota white like Sue! Sorry Sue, you know it’s true 🙂 Toby will come home looking like a different race!

  19. Sue says:

Doraz, we are staying on Ka’anapali Beach in West Maui. Simply beautiful. We want to take the snorkel trip to Molokini so if there’s one company she likes more than another would you let us know?

Starlachat, yes, I am white even after tanning! We did wear sunscreen yesterday and thought we were still getting fried, but we didn’t. If it quits raining we will be out there again today!

  20. Doraz says:

See Wayne at The Pacific Whale. He is a volunteer, so hope he is there when you call him. Just ask him if his excursion will cover what you are looking for! He even serves some food and drink on the trip. Let me know what he says. If you talk to him, tell him Stephanie, Dale, Rachel and Luisa say HI from California! Thanks!

  21. javajunkee says:

can I trade you a life? 😦 I’m turning green with envy again!

  22. tessa says:
