Things that mesmerize us

washing-machineI have something to admit.  It’s rather embarrassing but I’m not alone. I’m going to drag my brother into it and now my husband!  You see, we like watching our clothes spin and agitate in the washing machine! Yes, we do!  I’m not even sure how this subject came up between my brother and I but we do talk about some pretty goofy things so I guess it was apt to.

I got a new washer and dryer a while back and I got those front loaders.  I was talking to my brother and I told him it’s neat as heck watching your clothes in this thing.  He told me he loves to watch his clothes in the washer too.  It kind of mesmerizes us.  Now I’ve caught my husband taking the flashlight and watching the clothes go round and round.  Come on Paul, you know it’s true!  You’ve caught me and I’ve caught you!!!

Most people like watching a nice fire in the fireplace.  Or a storm moving in or waterfalls, waves hitting the beach and rainbows.  We like to watch our clothes getting washed!  Are we alone?  As long as we are getting this out in the open, is this something you have ever done or just like doing?  I know we can’t be alone.  I do know we are a little “out there” but we can’t be out there all alone.

So fess up.  What relaxes you to watch.  What mesmerizes you?

I don’t think I have ever watched clothes being washed or dryed. May I suggest a hobby of some kind Joy? ROFL!!

    I am mesmerized by a couple things…..

    1. Aquariums! I can sit and watch fish swimming around in an aquarium for hours!!

    2. Campfires! I literally spend twice as much time in my camper in the spring and summer than I do my house. I light a fire every night and it mezmerizes me. I call it “the fire channel”. 😀

I used to do that when I was a teen and it was my job to do 20 loads of laundry per week. I don’t really watch the washing machine do its thing any more . . . .

I love watching anything that’s always changing but always staying the same – those things you mentioned – fire, waterfalls, rivers/streams, lines of traffic at night, that sort of thing.

    My aquarium mesmerizes me.

I like campfires too…just sitting there watching the flames dance with each other ..I can sit there for hours. I’ve also taken some freaky random photos of campfires that have “images” in them.

I like watching the eagles soar down by our river. I could sit there forever just watching them.

I don’t have a front loader but have stood over my top loader washing machine and played with the clothes while they wash. Until it’s time for the spin cycle..then I gotta close the lid.

LOL….this is funny and SO you!!! Not sure if I’ve ever been mesmerized by my clothes being agitated!!!
Lava lamps have always mesmerized me. I’m surprised I don’t have one to be honest. Every time I go the the mall I have to stop and look at all of them!!! I always wanted one when I was younger. I bet Bailey would love one, they make great night lights. I also love watching water, even if it’s just in my bird bath!! Fish aquariums are cool, but watching turtles swim really get me hooked. Our Dr.’s office has a huge aquarium with little turtles in it and i LOVE watching them!! We used to have one, Franklin, but he got too stinky so we let him go in a pond. 🙂 This is a funny post!!!

All of the above!!! As long as I have a cup of coffee and my phone along for the ride! LOL

Joy! THat is too funny! LOL That is the weirdest thing I ever heard lol So funny. WHat happened to you and Darryl as a child!!

Christmas lights for me, love to drive around looking at them or stare at the tree. Campfires, watching water boil 🙂

Water is #1 Love to sit at the bay or walk the beaches and stare, who does not?

  8. My kitties love to watch the cloths spin round and round as well! The washer isn’t at a good level for me to look at, so I’ve never noticed that particular thing, but I do know the type of fascination you’re referring to. I have slats on my bedroom window, and at night there are slat shaped light-beams on my walls. Every time a car goes by, they lighten those beams a bit with their car lamps. When I can’t fall asleep at night I just become mesmerized by watching the lights go by… and by… and by…

Well Joy ,now I know why I feel so connected to you like Sister’s from a different Mother! That was so Funny and I appreciate the idea of learning something new, so I will seek out a top loader and sit and stare. I’m always up for learning a new life Adventure it may be like watching Golf soothing. Do you need music with this? I’m not even sure what to call it? An Activity LOL ;+).

  10. Just a Mom says:

I am a boiling water watcher. My mom told me years ago a “watched pot never boils.” Being that my mom told me this I had to prove her wrong and now I do it all the time!

I used to climb up on my parent’s washer, when I was a kid. It was a top-loader, and I would stick my finger or a pencil in the little tabbie-slot-thingy to make the agitator run without the lid down. I’m great at circumventing safety measures!!

    Now, I have a solid-door front-loader, so alas, I cannot be mesmerized.

I can still stare for hours at a fire, aquarium, and creeks going over rocks. Birds circling in the sky, or feeding, when the feeders are full. When we go to the lake, I’ll sit on the edge of the pier and just watch the water, or look down and watch the little bait-stealers school around my toes, which I drag in the water.

I can also sit, mesmerized, for HOURS in front of the TV. does that count?

I just can’t decide if I prefer watching my clothes wash or dry. It’s such a tough decision. Are all those flags to the right new? That’s wicked cool.

I like watching snowflakes head towards your windshield when you drive. It’s dangerous though but definitely mesmerizing.

  13. San says:

Don’t laugh but it has always made me feel sea sick so tend to avoid washing machines while in action – never had a toploader hmm

  14. natalie says:

    the ocean entrances me…

but i totally get you about the laundry. on our summer road trips, we stop into random landromats and take up 29 machines washing several weeks’ worth of dirty clothes. i sit there in a daze in front of the dryers…the clothes look like jumping dolphins or something…LOVE it. 🙂

  15. Tosha says:

I’ve had to do my washing at the laundry mat since the hurricane hit in September. They have 3 triple load washers that are front loaders. I always use those and I catch not only myself watching the clothes but my 2 year old as well..LOL He says “it spin!” but then again he makes me open up the top loaders too every once and awhile and let him look at whats going on in there.

  16. goldenamber says:

    I like to watch waterfalls…

Clothes agitating… hmmm thats a new one on me Joy! Sheesh! Maybe its the consistency of it… kinda like kids being lulled by white noise.
