3 Ply Toilet Paper

I am so happy now that Quilted Northern has decided to come out with 3-Ply toilet  paper.  I just can’t tell you!  I was just thinking the other day that mine just wasn’t plush enough for my tush!  Is she serious your all thinking?  Naw, not really but I do think it’s kind of funny.  Who thinks of things like this??

Toilet paper was invented in 1880 by Scott.  The story behind it was kind of interesting because I didn’t know back when it first came out it was “unmentionable” and was kept behind the counter and you would just say “two please” as kind of a code word.

I know the Erickson’s all have definite opinions about their “sh” toilet paper and there have been many heavy debates whether it’s Charmin or Northern that didn’t “clump into little balls” while using.  Okay, sorry, I know that’s way to much information.  I couldn’t help myself.

I still remember my grandparents outhouse.  They didn’t have running water or an indoor bathroom until 1972.  Can you even imagine?  Anyway, back to the topic.  It was a really long time ago but I can still remember using catalogs for TP.  It sounds gross I know but what can I say?  I remember that.

So dear people, what kind of TP do you use?  Are you now breathing a huge sigh of relief for this new and wonderful 3-Ply??

We do use Northern by the way 😉

I’m a big fan of Kleenex Cottonelle with Aloe & E. It’s in the high-mid price range, but I’m willing to spend a little more, because there is nothing worse than thin, rough TP. Like their slogan says, I like to be kind to my behind.

  2. Gary says:

We ALWAYS buy 2-ply but usually just the generic paper. I just can’t see spending a lot of money on something to wipe my ass with.

We also buy and use what I call “baby wipes for adults”. They are just like baby wipes but larger. These are AWESOME!! I always feel so nice and clean after doing my business. 😀

  3. Hahaha – Joy, you got me giggling like a 5-year old boy :P. We here in the deprived third-world [jk o’course] don’t have fancy TP like Northern and Charmin etc. We DO however have recycled paper TP that’s absolutely fine! So it’s not like school-bathroom TP, but it’s also good for the environment :).

I use whatever is on sale.I usually get purex 2-ply.i like that one.I bought charmin once,it plugged my toilet, too thick. And i hardly used anything. It has happened to others too.Joy you made me laugh.I remember that out house.Yikes,I did not like it.Sitting on it once,I was little.I looked down the hole and saw a snake. My worst fear,I screamed and jumped right off.I told Grandma i would never sit on there again. And I didnt for many years. She let me squat outdoors.

Oh yeah! I definitely remember my grandparents (on mother’s side) outhouse! And yup. Definitely they used pages from catalogs, etc.

Of course, I was just a teeny tiny thing back then, so I didn’t think it odd.

And we use Charmin which *doesn’t* clump into little balls. And I also bet that was more information than you wanted me to share, right?

Oh I can’t believe it I just went to look in the cupboard and Yes it’s Quilted Northern Ultra plush 3 ply. How funny. I didn’t even realize it was 3 ply how could I have missed that. Wow and Catalogs that can’t be comfortable soft cushy 3 ply now that’s living. I guess catalog paper would be better then nothing. Huh I’m still pondering that.

Charmin. And, like Gary, we also have “baby wipes for adults”… I had to get them out of self defense, when I got sick and tired of going out and unclogging the septic tank. You want a NASTY job? Try doing THAT in the middle of July when it’s 110 in the sun! OR, conversely, when it’s -30 with a windchill of -50, with blizzard conditions! But it’s gotta be done because it’s backing up into the house!

So I’ve become a Toilet Paper Nazi… if it won’t get done with 4 squares, use a wipe!

  9. Joy says:

Not to give out to much personal info BUT, I use wipes almost all the time also. I just feel so much cleaner.

  10. Sue says:

We use Northern, but no wipes! My parents always bought the cheap on sale toilet paper, but when I got married Toby insisted on Northern. I don’t know why, he just likes the feeling I guess!

Charmin Red bag. It’s strong and very soft. When we’re broke we opt for Angel Soft, but in my opinion you’re not saving money because you have to use more. Jason doesn’t see it that way. We also get the moist Charmin wipes. If you want to use them, they’re there. I like them, I do feel cleaner. Bailey likes them because he doesn’t always wipe well, so those clean him better. He’d kill me if he knew I just told everyone that!

  12. Doraz says:

Joy, I will look for the 3 ply…thanks. I usually get what ever 2 ply is on sale. We also get the wipes for some of the bathrooms.

  13. darryl says:

Northern, But not the three ply its a toilet clogger.

  14. Adell says:

Oh Yes, I remember the out house at our farm home in Manitoba…..peach wrappers were much softer than the catalogue I recall. We use 2 ply Charmin purchased at Costco, however when the Giesbrecht boys were here this winter they told me that kind may plug the toilet easier..it may be or just the way they do the plumbing in backward Arizona. Costco has good bargains for tp.

We try to recycle our Sears Christmas catalog. Bonus exercise while crumpling it to make it more “useable.”

  16. Amy Hunter says:

I use Northern, but now I’m wondering if they’ll jack up the price? If so, I’ll switch to something else. Except I won’t switch to whatever my last employer switched to. That stuff was like sandpaper!

  17. Jennifer says:

We’re a Quilted Northern household here. I grew up with the single ply Scott tissue and hated it. My father claimed that any other paper was ‘too good’ for our plumbing and would clog the septic system. I’ve used the ‘good stuff’ for years just fine since being an adult.
We’re pretty loyal to Northern because it’s made at Georgia Pacific right here in town. They’ve been facing layoffs lately since people started buying fewer paper products as part of the ‘green movement’, so we try to support our local economy any way we can…including our choice in TP! LOL!
