    Dog owners:

WHEN (not if) your dog urinates on the carpet poor table salt on top of the urine. The salt will act as an absorbant (like speedy dry on oil) and cause the urine to wick up from the cushion. If the pile of salt is completely yellow clean it up and apply more salt until the top of the mound of salt is white. Thoroughly clean the salt (don’t use your home vacuum or it will smell like uring when u vacuum). Then apply equal parts of white vinegar and water to the urine spot. Use a white towel to blot moisture from cushion/carpeting.

PS: Don’t tell the carpet cleaner’s union I told you how to do this. 😉

Reminds me of our dog for sure!! He is still learning the whole potty training thing. 😀

Thanks for the tip mssc!! That could come in very handy. 😀

    Yes I am absolutely serious. I’ve owned/operated a carpet care/restoration business since 1985.

Cat urine is more difficult… especially un-nutered male cat. The problem with cats is they can be in the litter box thinking they are being good little kitties but all the while they are spraying on the wall!

Get a black light and turn it on in the dark. You will see EXACTLY where the urine is. However, keep in mind that any cleaners you use that have optical brightners in them will also show up.

My lab has an over active bladder but for some reason only in the middle of the night. Waking up to a pile of crap and piss the size of dinner plate doesn’t start my day off well! I usually soak it with Mean Green and suck it up with my wet vac. GROSS but what else do I do….pour salt on it!!! Thanks mssc!

Okay, what about cleaning up dog puke????

  8. mssc54 says:

    DOG PUKE:

“Scoop” as much of the solids as possible. Then use the same one part white vinegar/water and BLOT the remainder. You shouldn’t have to use as much vinegar as on urine.

If there is still a discoloration then use a COLOR SAFE BLEACH. Mix some in a bowl of warm water and clean the spot. Finally, rinse out the soap mixture with the vinegar and water.

NEVER SCRUB YOUR CARPET! Only blot. When you scrub it you “untwist the shaft of the fibers and it will look fuzzy and reflect light differently.
