This weekend was just beautiful here in the land of 10,000 lakes. The sun was shining, lots of birds singing and the hum of an auctioneer’s voice echoing in the breeze.
Auction season is here! Saturday, I attended my first auction. EVER! It may be hard to believe that growing up in rural Minnesota I’ve never been, but it’s true. The auction was at the home of my dad’s cousin who passed away not long ago and there were a few things on the bill that interested both Toby and I. OK, one thing! A garden tiller. Toby got this hair up his bum that we needed a HUGE garden so a tiller is in order.
The auction started promptly at 10am, but like any good “junker” we were there about 45 minutes early to look at all the stuff. There was quite a bit of stuff, but it didn’t look like it would take long to get through it all. I spied some Tupperware that I wanted, some gardening gates and a cute bistro set. They started with the hay-wagon full of old tools and spare parts. A half hour was about all I could take of the tools, so the kids and I hit the road. I was gone for about 2 hours and they had just finished the hay-wagon junk! No Tupperware though. Somehow it slipped past Toby and Joy. Oh well, more stuff I really didn’t have room for anyway. Toby had had enough when I got back so we headed home and left Paul and Joy to hold down the fort.
HOURS passed so I called Joy to see how it was going and they still hadn’t gotten to the bistro set or any of the items Joy wanted! I figured I’d go back and keep Joy company. That was about 3:30pm. Finally at 4:15pm they got to the bistro set. I didn’t have a number so Joy was going to bid for me and I told her I’d go to $50. It was her and another lady bidding and of course, $50 came and the other lady said yes with some hesitation so Joy jumped in and said $55. SOLD to #137 for $55. Thanks Mum! She said, if you didn’t want it I did! It currently looks great on my deck and I’m very glad she decided for me! I also got the little garden gates I wanted and I have them up in the garden. Looks good, even to Toby! All in all it was a great day and an experience I’m glad I finally had.
Are you a big auction goer? Antiquer? Garage saler? I can see how people get into it. It’s fun to find that one thing you just can’t live without!
