A Real High!

Would you feel a little nervous about driving across this bridge?

There’s something just not right about driving above the clouds.

The Millau Viaduct is part of the

new E11 expressway connecting

Paris and Barcelona and features the

Highest bridge piers ever

Constructed. The tallest is 240 metres

(787 feet) high and the

overall height is an impressive 336 metres

(1102 feet), making this

The highest bridge in the world.

It’s taller than the Eiffel Tower.

Interestingly, the Millau Viaduct is

Not straight. Why?
It’s because a straight road could

induce a floating sensation as
you drive across it. So, a slight curve

Remedies that feeling.
The curve is 20km in range. Moreover,

The road has a light
Of 3% to
 improve the visibility.

And reassure the driver.

 An amazing engineering feat!

Driving across the bridge wouldn’t bother me. Of course I’d have to do it with my eyes shut.

Hmm, that’s cool – I hope it was worth it. Seems like a lot will be involved in fixing its normal wear and tear.

We have a pretty high bridge near my house. I always felt fine driving over it, until one day there was an accident on the news. I can’t remember exactly how it happened, but a semi driver was forced to the right, and pushed a car over the side of the bridge (despite whatever cement and fence was there to prevent that). It was a lo-o-o-o-ong way down and obviously that was the end of the car and everyone in it. That is too freaky for me. I don’t mind going when it’s my time, but I don’t want to see a lot of scenery on the way out. (Of course I still drive over that bridge, as it’s the only convenient way to get anywhere east of me.)

I see no reason to driver over that. Nope! The bridge is cool to look at but that’s craziness!

I agree. No How No Way unless I absolutely had to.

  5. It’s beautiful but crazy!

It looks awesome. But I dont think I would want to be on there.Any bridge I go on I hold my breathe till I am off.

Most bridges, I’m ok with, especially the small ones. As they get larger, though, my brain starts working overtime, especially since the bridge collapse in MN. Now, when I go home to Chicago, I hold my breath as I cross the Mississippi. And on top of it, they just closed the NEWER of the two bridges that I use, because they found “serious” cracks in the structure. Lovely.

So THAT bridge??? I’d rather fly. I trust airplanes much more.

That is amazing Wow! I would cross it, but I wouldn’t be real thrilled about it. I would be glad when I reached the other side. Tunnels not my favorite especially long tunnels but I just close my eyes as long as I’m not driving.

I was looking at pics of this the other day! I think its awesome.. I’d do it just to prove to myself that I had it in me..LOL..I’d be terrified the whole time but i’d do it..

  11. Tony says:

Wow that’s incredible. Certainly an engineering masterpiece. I wonder if it sways in the wind.

  12. Sue says:

I would be shittin’ my pants the whole way across! The pic’s almost make it look fake. I’d have to be passed out cold to cross this bridge.

  13. You bet I would! That’s awesome! Doesn’t look like that long a stretch, and what a view!

Somebody remind me… which parts of Europe are drugs legal?
