Duct Tape Prom

This appeared on my Facebook this morning, and I just had to share. These are amazing!! I cannot fathom the hours that went into these creations, between the planning, designing, and finally, the actual construction.

When I was in High School (late ‘80’s), we had a couple of guys who wore Duct Tape tuxes to prom, but that was in the early days, when Duck Tape wasn’t sponsoring, and it was still a big joke and even a little risky, because our administrator was a Big Stuffy Dragon Lady, who, in an tragic accident during college, had her sense of humor and fun surgically removed.  Fortunately, we subdued her and duct-taped her in a corner, and the party continued.

This first one is my favorite, but there ten winners, and even more at the site.  (links are back to the original Duck Tape Brand Prom Scholarship site)

Peacocks!! Who would have thought you could do Peacocks!!

2009_1st_place

The Queen of Hearts and Mad Hatter, from Alice in Wonderland.

2009_2nd_place

A butterfly and her flower.

The rest of the Top Ten, as well as winners from previous years, can be viewed here.

I’ve already started encouraging my nephew, who made wallets, book covers, and even a chessboard (complete with Lego chessmen) out of duct tape, to consider dressing his wedding party in duct tape. His girlfriend is a Theatre Girl, and I have a feeling she just might go along…

I would not have the patience!

  2. Tony says:

How do they get those clothes off , wouldn’t it stick to their skin???

One of the rules states that they can put the tape on material, so I suspect that they use a fabric “shell” and go from there.

Love all the bright color’s just amazing. I would wonder if it would get hot with the thick duck tape. Really outstanding.

I think these are all just awesome and I love them. I’ve looked at making stuff and it’s a lot like origami I think. You just keep folding it and I’d love to learn how to make stuff. The bright colors and imagination are truly art.

those are amazing …me either on the patience though…that’s why you probably won’t see 47 year old women making them. I’d be on roll one and wanting to shoot somebody.
