How long do you shower?

showerI realize I’m a total putz but I wonder how long it takes you to shower? I’m in the shower for more than 15 minutes but under 20. Is that long? I’ve been teased about it before and on way more occasions than I can count, I’ve ran out of hot water.

By the time I do all the things I do in there, that much time has passed. If there’s a song on the radio that I love, I might even hold my shampoo like a mic and give a little impromptu concert! I shave each and every shower no matter if it’s summer or winter. You see, I do it for me and nobody else. It has nothing to do if someone is going to see my legs or if I have to wear shorts, it’s just the way I am.

I know if I hopped in, washed, washed and conditioned my hair that I could be out in under 5 minutes but I can’t shower like that. As I’ve gotten older, I can’t shower daily, at least in the winter because my skin will get so dry it hurts. So, I’m an every other day shower-er.

I never take baths. The rare ones I take are if I’m so cold I can’t warm up or I just want to lay and read and will stand up to shower after I’m done. There’s something about washing myself and then sitting in my own dirt. I know there are many who would disagree with me but hey, it’s just the way I think.

So, how long is it for you?

Usually around 20-25 mins… that includes shampooing, conditioning, shaving, washing, and rinsing. I have really long and thick hair, so its hard for me to get out in less if I “do the works.” If I’m not washing my hair I’m out in about 10 mins.

  2. Vicki says:

about 10 minutes for me, a bath ‘atleast’ 30 minutes

Showers are my favorite luxury. Warm and preferably not rushed. Though they usually are rushed.

I can take a shower in about 5 minutes if I have to. Usually I take around 10 minutes if I don’t wash my hair or shave. I shower daily but only wash my hair 2x a week, and I shave less often than that. So generally a shower for me is a 10 minute affair. If I take longer, I feel like I’m having a spa day or something.

Baths are nice, but I rarely take them because let’s face it, when do I have time to sit around and do nothing for long enough to really enjoy a bath? If my skin is dry and itchy (like in the winter sometimes), I will take an Aveeno bath (colloidal oatmeal). I also used to take a bath sometimes when I was on business travel – because what else is there to do in the hotel (I don’t care for TV or the pool/exercise room)? But the last time I did that, I got a very bad (and I mean VERY extremely itchy) rash, so I don’t think I will ever again sit in any other tub but my own.

It usually takes me 15 to 20 mins to shower.Ive got long hair though so takes a little more to wash, and I always do every shower.I dont take bathes to get clean….I dont get the concept of sitting in dirty water either.I do take a bath once in awhile in Epsom salts to help relieve my muscle cramps/aches and even those are short cause I get bored so fast just laying there.

I dunno how long I shower for. However long it takes to run all the hot water out. I ALWAYS run every bit of the hot water out and I can’t take a shower if anyone else has already b/c I have to have a scalding hot shower. I don’t even bother turning on the cold water. It also doesnt help that my shower has 2 seats in it..

Did you ever see the episode of Seinfeld where Kramer tried to take “short shower” lessons from Jerry, only to realize that the shower was where he really wanted to be? That’s totally me. I love being in the shower. I have a long, detailed routine that takes forever, but I love every second of it. (Except for shaving my legs – that part I could live without, but then I would be like a samsquantch, and that’s just weird.) I try to keep it short when I’m in someone else’s house, because I feel bad using all the hot water, but then I don’t feel quite right for the rest of the day.

It’s strange, though – there’s a fine line between a shower that is just long enough, and a shower that has been too long. It’s a rare occurrence, but every once in a while I stay in too long, and then feel kind of waterlogged for the rest of the day.

To start with, my shower is on the third floor of the house, so I have to run the water for a good ten minutes in order for it to even get warm. So I bring a book into the bathroom (ours is huge) with me, and hang out while the water warms up.

The shower itself usually only takes about ten minutes. I’ve tried to take longer, but for me, 15 minutes feels like *forever*. But then I take my time after, with the lotions, the hair stuff (if I’m drying my hair) and whatnot. So, start to finish, I can take 30-45 mins in the bathroom. It’s time to myself, so I take advantage of it.

I can, however, be in and out in five minutes, once that water has warmed up.

I rarely take baths, even though we have a big garden tub – fits two people at least. Holds 80 gallons, and takes FOREVER to fill. But I just don’t see the point of the bath… if I’m gonna sit and read, I’m gonna do it in my Comfy Chair, or in my bed in a nest of pillows.

Josh, however, uses that bathtub like a swimming pool, and will be in there for TWO HOURS, if I let him!!

  8. Sue says:

Average shower lasts 10-15minutes for me. I can be out in 5 if need be. I like the feeling of the hot water, but really, I stand all day at work so I don’t need to stand forever in the shower!

  9. nikki says:

I average about 15-20 minutes. I CAN be out in 5 IF I have to be but that means no shaving.

oh and I take a bath too almost every night. It’s just very relaxing to me but I don’t do it if I’m dirty. I’ll shower before hand if I am. And I always shower after I take a bath. I don’t bathe to clean myself….just to relax.

  10. Gary says:

I shower for about 15 minutes. I think a shower is very relaxing!! 🙂

  11. kweenmama says:

My showers are short. In and out! When I want to relax, I soak in the tub, and then I can be in for much longer.

  12. Never lesser than 15 mins. I usually take until almost an hour. More than that if I’m shampooing my hair. I know I know, I’m weird.

  13. joz1234 says:

about 10 minutes. I take one everyday during week–I workout every morning, so I would stink if I didn’t. Weekends are everyother day for me, since I don’t work out.

  14. mssc54 says:

Joy, you obviously have issues. lol

I shave and shower at the same time and most times brush my teeth too. Prolly 10 minutes or so.

  15. There was once a question on The Newlywed Game—don’t shake your head like you don’t remember, I know most of you do!—the contestants were asked to reveal if their significant other had ever “tinkled” in the shower.

Now before you all say “Grrrroossssssssss!” I’d like to remind everyone that people are freely offering up how long and how often they shower. Suffice to say that showering every other day in Arizona don’t cut it.

So Joy, there’s a QOTD for ya: Have you ever peed in the shower?

  16. holeycheese says:

around 5 minutes.. not more. The kids I shower in 2-3 minutes. Here in Israel we don’t have much water and we have to save on it… The garden gets water only twice a week.. They even add extra taxes on the water bill if we use too much. (which we usually don’t)

  17. Tony says:

    about 10-15 minutes

  18. javajunkee says:

I’m going with about 25 minutes too. But depending on what cd I listen to that could go longer too
