Sure but mostly on drunk drivers.

Then there was this one time I saw this guy walking across a bridge into downtown with a kevlar helmet, black pants, black shirt, some kind of vest and a black back pack on. Seriously. Since it was morning rush hour and the middle of summer time and he was walking by one of the marinas that have some of the most expensive yatchs in the city in it, I figured I’d dial up 911 and let them sort things out.

We have a home fax machine and when we used to send faxes to India, we’d have to dial 9-011-etc. Well, sometimes the “0” would be missed and the police would come knocking at our door! But I don’t recall ever calling 911 for a substantive reason.

I only called 911 once. I was driving on 94east into wisconsin and about 50 motorcycles where racing around, driving down the shoulder, and flying in between cars at speeds up to 100 mph. When I told the operator she said we’ve already had about 10 calls on this matter, so everyone must have been calling on there cell phones. Then about 5 min. later 5 squads came up behind us and there was a road block in front of us, they had at least 15 of them pulled over. Never seen anything like it before.

Yes.. I had to call awhile back because Wyatt the terrible decided to choke on a diary lock and it got lodged in his throat. we had a nice ambulance ride (NOT) to the hospital

    Here in Australia it’s 000
Called once for an Ambulance the 1st time my son had an epilepsy attack & another time when a pregnant lady ran into the back of my car & totalled it. Police for the accident & ambulance for the pregnant lady who got really distressed

    Thank goodness, no.

Although I did have them call me, once. That was last year for Steve’s wreck. It was very early in the morning, and he hadn’t come home the night before. So when the phone rang at about 6:30 A.M., I knew what it was. Sure enough, it was police dispatch calling to tell me that there’d been an accident. I’ll never forget it.

Interesting question. I’ve had to call it three times. Once was when my neighbor’s car was on fire right in front of my house at 3 a.m. (That was when I lived somewhere else.)

Another time was when I got stuck in a ditch during a snow storm, on my dead-end dirt road headed home, where there was nobody to help me. That was several years ago before I had a “real” cell phone and it was one of those pre-paid ones. I kept the phone and charger in my car for emergencies. I had heard that you could call from any non-paid cell phone but never thought I’d have to try it. I was glad to find that it did in fact work!

  8. Lucy says:

Lucky I have never had to call 911!

  9. nikki says:

yes when my brother couldn’t breath. Freaked me out! He had a staph infection and for some reason he panicked and hyperventilated.

I haven’t had to call it, but my son did once, just to see if it worked. Imagine my surprise when the police showed up at my door to see if everything was okay. When I went looking for my son I found him hiding in his closet.

  11. Sue says:

Yes, when Paul got run over by the lawn mower and his foot was stuck underneath it. I was thinking I’d see a mangled foot and he was just yelling to get it off of him. I hung up b/4 they answered, but they called back to make sure everything was ok. I said, I think so, I don’t see any blood but I’ll call back if it’s bad!

    Oh, I forgot one.

Actually, someone in the stands called 911 for our now 20 year old daughter. When she was a sophmore in highschool she was walking behind the catcher during warm ups. The center fielder threw the ball in to the catcher and the ball went over her head. The ball hit our daughter in the head and dropped her like a sack of rocks.

I was out of the stands in a heart beat. Fortunately after she was checked at the hospital she returned to the game.

  13. Just a Mom says:

I had to call them when my mom had her stroke. I was at work and when I made my daily afternoon checkup call on my mom my then 4 year old daughter answered the phone. She said “Grammy fell out of her chair and is sleeping on the floor.” I called 911 and told them the situation and made it home from what should have been a 40 minute drive in 20 minutes!
