  1. Lucy says:

I used to walk to Kindergarten everyday. I started taking my bike to school once my parents felt comfortable enough with me getting there safely.

  2. Sue says:

I rode the bus and now my kids ride the bus or get a ride from me. I hated the bus and so does my daughter; my son is too excited about it yet to realize how much it stinks!

  3. sean says:

walk 2 and a half miles

  4. nikki says:

I only rode the bus in kindergarten. My mom drove for a while. Once I was old enough I walked. There was always a group of us though..very rarely was I alone.
Now Bailey rides the bus and LOVES it. I drove him or we walked up until the 2nd grade then we lived far away enough from the school that he could ride the bus. He’d never want me to drive him now. If it’s nice I walk with him down to the bus stop…if it’s cold we drive!

  5. megan says:

    Kindergarten: bus
    Grades 1-3: walked
    Grades 4-10: bus
    Grades 11-12: drove

(I know, grades 11-12 aren’t really “kid” ages, but I was on a roll.)

I started walking to school in KG. At that time, my brothers and I went to three different schools, but my first-grader brother would walk me to the crossing guard near my school, and then we would part ways. Both of my brothers were moved to my school when I was in 1st grade, so we all walked together from then on. In HS we walked too. We lived in a very snowy area, so bike riding was not usually a viable option.

My kids are in a preschool a few miles away, and they don’t have bus service, so I drive them. I’m not sure what I’ll do when they are older. I don’t like the idea of long school bus rides, nor of being my school-aged kids’ chauffer, nor of them walking or biking the relatively unsafe 3-mile route to school, so I guess I had better figure out what I’m willing to compromise on.

  7. Laura says:

I walked when I was a kid, from KG up to 8th grade. I do remember, in KG, for about the first week, my mom, or one of my friends’ moms would walk us to school – at least up to the Crossing Guard, who was on the corner in front of the school. After that first week of school, though, we went by ourselves. There were always at least two of us walking.

In HS, I rode the bus… hey, who WOULDN’T take a “free” ride, when school is several miles away.

Now, I drive Josh to the bus (I should walk him, but somehow, we’re always rushing in the morning). We live out in the country, a good 8 miles from school. It’s a private (parochial) school, but we’re fortunate that, in this small town, our public school is generous, and lets us share their bus service. So he rides with the “Publics”, but they drop him off at school.

Didn’t we just do this one? lol

  9. Joy says:

I walked until high school. We walked as a big group and it was more fun that taking the bus. We could have taken a bus to jr high but we’d have rather have walked.

  10. Gary says:

I rode the bus all the way through school. I would drive my mom’s car to school every once in a while once I got my license.

I drive my kids to school every morning and pick them up every afternoon.

  11. Just a Mom says:

I rode my bike until high school. In high school my mom drove me in the morning and I took the bus home.
I drive my youngest to school because we live too far away and it is a private school so we don’t have a bus. I take my oldest daughter to school in the mornings and she takes the bus home unless she has to stay after.

  12. kweenmama says:

I walked. My son rides part way to my school crossing area then walks the rest of the way to school while I perform my crossing duties.

  13. Jim says:

    When I was a kid……

We walked 5 miles EVERY DAY up hill both ways through 2 feet of snow…….
