Question of the day

No, I never have but I think it would be interesting.
I wish I had jury duty. Seriously. Although a friend of mine was a Jury Forman on a rather famous case. Remember the 12 year old that killed his grandparents “because” he was on prozak?
No! I used to be disqualified because I’m a lawyer. Then after they changed that law, I got a summons shortly after my kids came home. I wrote a note that jury duty would be a substantial hardship as I was a single, work-at-home mom with two newly-adopted infants. They haven’t bothered me since.
No 🙂 Not yet!
No, and I probably will not be that for quite some years, but when I become a Citizen, I can be, and I would like to have that experience also.
I was called in once, but in the end after all the rigmarole they did not need me.
I have. I sat on a gang murder trial. It was a drive-by shooting, and there were at least two witnesses. But they tried to make the argument that because the guy was roughed up by the police, he should be let off the hook. He had bruises that they *said* were inflicted by police, but he’d also spent plenty of time that evening in the hoosegow, as well as leading the police on a merry foot chase before being caught.
But we had a pretty lively argument in the Jury Room, and a couple of us were finally able to convince the others that, yes, maybe the police had done something wrong, but that doesn’t excuse the guy from doing the actual shooting in the first place.
He was found guilty. No idea what he was sentenced to, that was a different trial. And I have no idea if he pursued the brutality charges. But I do know that he’d gotten off on at least three other murders before this one. The lawyers came in and talked with us after the trial was over and told us that.
It was really interesting, and I’d do it again, if my schedule allowed. But seriously, the $10/day they gave us as a stipend wouldn’t cover my lunch bill now, not in downtown Chicago, anyway!
No, but I hope to! I think it’s very interesting, or it could be!
I afraid to even answer this for fear that the Jury Duty Gods will track me down. Although I have sat and waited to be called (once), I have never served.
No I haven’t. Depending on the case it could be interesting.
I have been called twice, but never chosen.
