WE USUALLY PREPARE TWO KIND OF BREAKFAST ON ALTERNATE DAYS – ONE IS CALLED IDLI AND THE OTHER DOSA BOTH MADE FROM RICE FLOUR. BTW THIS DOSA IS LOVED BY ALL .

I sleepwalk to my coffee cup. Use my medicine. Pour coffee and come to computer. In the mornings, I really miss my cigarettes.

Joy WOW You are a non smoker! My hat is off to you. I know how hard that is to quit smoking. I quit years ago and to this day I would say it is one of the hardest things Ive ever done. :+)

      • Joy says:

Thanks Starla. I smoked for almost 35 years. I still miss it something awful and when I smell one, they smell so good…….you read I got sick, had I not gotten sick, I never would have quit. I still REALLY, REALLY miss it.

I did read that you got sick and I am happy to hear you made the decision to quit. I know how hard it is. I hate to say it but cigarettes use to smell really good to me for a long time. But finally the day came when it just wasn’t part of my world any more. I was so amazed when at last I went through a whole day and did not think about wanting to smoke..

Usually I am in bed (sleeping or trying to sleep) until my kids wake me up. Then if time permits, they hang around in my room / bed for a while, reading, playing, cuddling, whatever, until I have to haul my butt out of bed so they won’t starve to death. I make a potty stop and pull out the milk and liquid yogurts and boil water for my coffee. My kids’ stuff is in the low cupboards so they can set the table, choose their cereal, and dig in, but I’m not ready to give them free rein with the liquids yet – I don’t want them getting their own breakfast in the wee hours while I’m snoring away. I don’t get much time with them, so I try to read to them while they are eating and I’m sipping my coffee.

My kids will keep adding more cereal to their bowls until I place a time limit and put the cereals away. So usually, no matter how early they got up, we end up rushing to get out the door. The kids get dressed and I throw on my pants and socks, hand out the vitamins and fish oil, style hair, and drive the kids to school. Then I usually drive back home, get my internet fix, and get to work in my “home office” (bedroom table).

If I have to go to the office, then somehow in all that I have to add my shower, packing my bag, etc. It is not impossible, but it is not easy either. I am not a morning person.

Now what I really want to be doing is getting up earlier, doing some yoga before breakfast/coffee, spending time outdoors with the kids, getting the kids to school earlier, etc. During the summer of 2008, I used to get up early enough to play outdoors with the girls every morning. I would love to get back to that routine again.

And maybe someday I will get back to the reading I used to do in the mornings, before I had kids . . . but maybe that is impossible.

During the school year, I’m up about a half hour before Josh, because I’m cranky if I don’t have time to myself to wake up. He shows up around 6:30, either on his own, or after his alarm has woken him. We have cereal together, check the weather sites on the computer (why yes, I AM raising a geek, thank you for noticing)… then it’s ‘get dressed, brush your teeth, while I make your lunch’ and usually we race to see who can get done the fastest. Sometimes, I’ll let him make his own lunch, if time permits, or if we have extra time, we’ll play something – cars, dinosaurs, knights. Then at 7:15, we’re out the door to the bus.

Summer? Well, it’s pretty much anything goes. He’s not allowed into our room until 7 on non-school days, which includes weekends and summer, but at 7 on the dot, he’s there. He’ll either pile into our bed and stick his icy feet in my back, or he’ll pull out his cars and turn on PBS kids while I try to sleep in. When that doesn’t work, I stumble downstairs and pretend to think about breakfast. THAT will either be a do-it-yourself affair, or a full-on pancakes/bacon deal. I never know until I’m half awake and discover what my Autopilot has decided…

I have 2 routines also. On work days, I get up, get dressed, get ready for work, and am out the door by 5:45am at the latest. Punch into work by 6:15am and then get stuff started. I eat breakfast about 7am (unless I have a case at 7, then I eat earlier) so that way I can make it through a couple of cases before I chew my sterile arm off! Everybody has coffee/breakfast right away in the morning b/c you might not get back there until lunch. Oh, at work I eat oatmeal and have some toast with a glass of milk b/c that seems to last in my stomach the longest. At home, I don’t get up until the kids do. I am a morning person so needing to wake up by myself isn’t necessary! I get the kids breakfast about 7 and make sure Trinity is ready for school and out the door without missing the bus and then I sit down to eat a bowl of cereal. After that I hit the computer and am off and running for the day!

  6. Lucy says:

Roll out of bed and drag my half asleep self to the kitchen to put on the kettle for my tea. Then a quick potty break and turning on the water at the sink for my cat to have her morning drink. Go to the computer and read email for a couple mins. Get up and turn off cat’s water .. pour my tea… go back to computer. after another few mins I get my tea and a bowl of cereal and then I do other stuff on the internet while I eat (including checking your blog).

    • Joy says:

That’s so funny about your cat liking to drink from the faucet. So does ours. Maddie. She loves the tub and we know to turn it on. She will sit on the side and lap it up. She will jump on the counter in the bathroom every now and then but I yell when she does it in the kitchen. I don’t like cats up there and she tries it so I know she does it when I’m not around but……I do yell “Madeline” and she jumps down so she knows she shouldn’t. She just doesn’t care!!!! So many cats are afraid of water so your surprised me.

    • Joy says:

Lucy, Starla put this on her blog for us. My cat doesn’t go to this extreme but it’s really funny.

Coffee first turn of the computer if I didn’t post the night before I post something. Watch a little TV news I always have breakfast. Usually oatmeal or cereal or eggs. I start my day…..

  8. Nikki says:

Bailey likes to get up at 6:30, he loves the morning, and I get up about 7:15. He’s already eaten and dressed, backpack ready to go, hair and teeth brushed. We usually sit and watch an episode of I Carly or something. On cold or rainy days I drive him to the bus stop, just up the road. On nice days, we walk. I don’t always walk with him. Depends on how awake I am. It’s a nice peaceful walk though, that’s around 7:55. After he’s on the bus I grab my coffee and sit down at the computer. I eat a bowl of Raisin Brand or Special K around 10am. I can’t eat before that, I’ve tried!

  9. sweetiegirlz says:
