I know when I babysat I only earned .50 an hour. My first “real” job was a carhop at a drive in called The Frost Top. I earned $1.25 an hour plus tips. We had so much fun at that job.

  2. LVISS says:

I HAD ONLY ONE JOB RIGHT FROM 1966, SOON AFTER I GRADUATED TO 2005

  3. My parents wouldn’t let me work until I graduated high school. My first job was as a sales person at a women’s clothing store called Jean Nicole.

  4. Laura says:

I worked at the local pool. I think I was about 13 when I started, which was probably against the law, but I had my parent’s permission. I worked in the basket room, doing admission (checking passes, selling day-passes), and taking in the guest’s baskets full of clothing. At the end of the day, I’d balance the books and prepare a bank deposit. I probably made minimum wage. I really enjoyed that job…

I was about 10 or 11 years old and cut yards with the family lawn mower.

But when I’m playing Farkle and ppl ask me what I do I always say, “I bag groceries at the Kroger. In my off time I clean windshields at a busy intersection downtown.” 🙂

I had a babysitting job when I was 10 (for a 13mo, 33lb baby). I can’t remember if I got at least a dollar “for sure,” but I probably did. By age 12, I had had a couple babysitting jobs and my mom hired me for $10/week to do all the housework and care for my kid brother. (After about 3 weeks, I begged her to fire me rather than keep fighting about everything I did wrong every day.) When I was around 10 or 11, I made more than a dollar Christmas caroling. Does that count? At 13, I got my first paper route. Also at 13, I sold Amway with my mom for about a week, and I earned exactly $1 before I got disgusted and quit.

Our (now) 30 year old daughter began baby sitting at a young age. She was such a mizer too. She became very sought after; even baby sat children for some Fortune 500 Executive’s kids when they would come to Kiawah Island during the summer. She made very good money.

She even paid CASH for her first car. A brand spanking new Ford Focus.

I also babysat at a very young age. No miser here though. Money burned a hole in my pocket and it still does.

  7. Sue says:

I also babysat. It started out as a once in a while on a Saturday thing and then I was babysitting them all summer. I did that for a couple of years until I got my license and got a job at the local grocery store.

My parents paid me about $5 to mow the lawn when I was about 12…. I loved doing it and my dad enjoyed sitting there relaxin 🙂

  9. Ellen says:

I work as a 15 year old girl at a local groceries store. Was fun to do, I still remember I fell so mature! 🙂

I use to pull a little wagon and sell ice pops and candy. ;+) I think I was in the 3rd grade.

  11. Just a Mom says:

I started baby-sitting at 10 years old. My first real job was when I was 15 I worked at the NASA gift shop during the summer.

  12. Vicki says:

Growing up we had a bait shop/bar so i worked in there all the time but really never was paid. when i turned 15 my first paying job was at a Fina gas station, back in the days where you pumped peoples gas, checked oil and washed windows.

  13. Nikki says:

I babysat when I was old enough to. My first “real” job was when I was 16, I was a dishwasher for a small cafe.
