Mothers Day is approaching! Usually Joy, Sue, the kids and I go plant flower baskets. This year we aren’t because Joy has had the worst time with the air. All the pollen in the air is really bothering her so we’re staying in this year. As long as we’re together, that’s all that matters.
My mom just moved back from California, for the umpteenth time! We were told to lock her up and throw away the key if she ever says she wants to move back! I’m thinking especially her 2 grandkids won’t have a problem doing just that! Perfect timing though, Bailey’s baseball just started and Mothers Day!
What do you have planned for Mothers day?
When I think of May, I think of the scent of lilacs. I think of garage sales and warm(er) weather. Sunglasses, lip gloss and my lounge chair, sitting outside soaking up the warm rays. After a long winter, we appreciate those things. But my goodness, this wind is ruining all of that! It’s not just windy here, its windy across the whole dang country! What the heck is going on?! If it’s warm, then it’s windy. If it is a nice perfect day, it won’t last! Please, PLEASE give us a nice warm summer!
My mom brought her cat with her. No biggie? Well, I have two cats! I don’t know about this, my male cat is VERY territorial. When she arrived Bailey brought it down and it sat next to Jason. I thought he was going to jump into his chair! He thought for a split second that it was a raccoon! Funniest thing ever! I laughed so hard!
Not too much has been going on here, nothing too exciting other than, well baseball but I won’t talk about that every time. lol I know it’s not everyone’s favorite subject! So that’s really it from me this week. Hopefully we have a nice weekend. Saturday we are celebrating my nieces 4th birthday and I am hoping to be able to be outside.
Hope you all are having a good week, and have a great weekend!
You guys could still go plant flowers. I’m determined NOT to talk about the weather or me. Except to say that was a killer wind today. Brrr…..
The cats will get along I think but you’ll have to just leave them be and let them get used to each other. It’s hard but they seem to work it out on their own. Also, usually it’s two males that will fight and not females. The minute I say that one of them is going to rip into the other. How did the cat like that long car trip? LOL about the raccoon.
I’m so glad your mom made it safe and sound. I don’t think as the kids get older this time she’ll be able to leave again. They’ll just mean way too much to her.
I’ll talk more tomorrow.
Oh but I have fun things planned for Sunday…a little surprise. 🙂
You’re evil! I’ll go nuts wondering!!
Hahaha…good! lol
I love your Thursday chats ^_^. I hope Bailey is excited about the baseball coming up!
And almost-Happy-Mother’s-Day 😀
My week has been ok I guess. Work has been interesting, but not overly exciting. I was on call last night and actually had to work! It sounds funny, but for a long time I haven’t gotten called in so I was due. Let’s just say I need toothpicks for my eyelids and a bottle of ibuprofen for my head and I can’t be lazy today.
We have a full weekend ahead of us! Tomorrow I get to take Trinity to her first concert! Taylor Swift! It was a Christmas gift and she’s pretty excited. Saturday we are celebrating Nikki’s nieces’ birthday, then have a benefit to go to for supper for a young lady I’ve known forever. I was good friends with her sister growing up and the family is a big part of our community. She was diagnosed with a rare blood disease that has shut down her kidneys among other things. After the benefit we’re heading over to SOB’s to enjoy the Square One band. It should be a good time 🙂 Sunday is Mother’s Day of course and I guess I didn’t know for sure what we were doing.
I’m glad your mom made it safe and sound, Nikki and see you guys Saturday!
Well, you know how I love free chat Thursdays. Probably because I’m not on Facebook so this is my only free forum of the week.
This week has been really busy, and it’s just the beginning of a 2+-month marathon. On Tuesday we finally closed a huge project I’ve been working hard on for about 6 months. It was down to the wire, and that was one of the most stressful work days of my life. It didn’t help that someone found a mistake in one of my analyses in the final hours. Just a tiny change, but it meant some other documents had to be tweaked and that really wasn’t the time for it! Word to the wise: if you didn’t think it was necessary to review something in the whole month you had it prior to the close, don’t start looking at it on the last day! But that guy got his punishment – right after that, his email went down for 2 hours and all the heat was on him. It was pretty brutal. Up to 3:30pm, there were new emails every few seconds, and then suddenly they stopped. Finally at 7pm we got confirmation that all the transfers were done. Whew! A day I don’t want to relive any time soon. I took it easy the next day (Wednesday), but now it’s time to get back to the grind.
Nikki, I’d love to hear how Bailey’s first game went.
The wind is blowing around here, too. I really like it, as long as it doesn’t get dangerous or blow the garbage down the street (yesterday was garbage day).
This coming Saturday my nanny called off because she is moving to her new house. (She is so excited, it was her lifelong dream to buy a house, and she got the tax credit to boot.) I asked my sister1 if she could come, but she is busy. So I thought, what the heck, and called sister2. She just had her first baby in December and we don’t see each other very often since we are both so busy. When my girls were younger, if I asked her to babysit, she’d bring her husband along because she was so nervous. (No, my kids aren’t horrible, but she was that insecure about babysitting.) So I wasn’t sure how she’d feel about taking care of 3 on her own. But she readily agreed, so that should be fun for everyone. Well, it’s not like I won’t be right upstairs in case she needs me.
Saturday afternoon, I’m taking the girls to some kiddy theater thing called “Farfalle.” It’s recommended for ages 3-6 and they say something about the audience being on the stage. It should be interesting at any rate. On Mother’s Day, I am thinking of taking the kids to the arts center near my parents’ house for a Mother’s Day luncheon and dance show. Also still hoping to make it to church / Sunday school (we couldn’t go last week). And of course, we’ll go to my parents’ for Mother’s Day.
What should I buy my mom for Mother’s Day and also her birthday, which is the following week? She’s turning 66, can’t read anymore except for audiobooks, doesn’t get out much except for medical stuff, doesn’t want chocolates or other unhealthy foods, isn’t into the usual “mom stuff” like pretty bags and jewelry and decorations and bla bla bla. If you ask her what she wants, she’ll say “nothing.” If I buy her a $25 audiobook, I’ll find out she already bought that one on ebay for $1.99. You get the picture? I also still have to get my dad something for his birthday, which was in January. He said all he wants is photos of my girls.
Well, it’s time for me to get back to serious work. I know I can get caught up if I just focus on it. Who knew it could be this hard to focus at my age?
I hope everyone has a great week.
Yesterday was garbage and recycling day for us too. My recycling lid blew open and I had paper everywhere!! I’m sure my neighbors appreciated that! What do ya do?!
Baileys first game was cold and rainy. They played great for the 1st 5 innings, in the 6th gave up 10 runs! A lot of errors. Over throws, which allowed the other team to score. I think it was a good thing though, they needed their egos brought down just a bit. They are the only 9 year old AAA team in the Mississippi 8, they play 10 year olds. So being a taken down a notch or two was a good thing! Now hopefully they can keep it together and stay in the game and not act like” they have it in the bag” and win tonight! Bailey sat out half the game because he played all of the scrimmage game (which they won) and he’ll play and pitch tonight. Thanks for asking!!!!
ohhh, the thing for Mom. That’s a tough one. I have a “mom with everything”, too – at the age they’re at, it’s hard for them NOT to have everything they want/need! But I always manage to find something.
For your mom, how about something that the girls have made for her? You could pop by Hobby Lobby and get a couple of ‘raw wood’ frames and stands, some Mod Podge (a glue/glaze for crafts), and maybe some paints, foam shapes, those little fake jewels or beads that little girls like, etc. Then let the girls decorate the frames, and mod-podge over. (I’ve used magazine clips, as well) Stick a pic of each girl in the frame that they’ve made, and you have a nice keepsake. Yeah, it’ll be messy, and likely look like a kid made it, but some of my favorite presents are the goofy ones that Josh has made for me.
You could get her a plant (as opposed to just flowers), if she’s into that kind of thing. I know my mom always enjoys when I get her a funky color yarn – she knits hats for the preemies at the hospital.
Maybe a Visa Gift Card, with instructions to spend it on audiobooks?
Or one of the best mother’s days we had (many years ago), was when the whole family agreed on “no gifts”, but got together for a picnic at the local forest preserve and just hung out. We brought pot luck and bought a bucket of chicken, and had a blast playing frisbee and softball, and just hanging out together.
Yeah, my mom would NOT consider “going somewhere” a mother’s day gift. She does not like going out of the house. Aside from her medical issues, she’s been agorrophogic (sp?) for decades. So taking her out for a nice dinner, etc., would probably fall flat. Especially on a day when it would be crowded and the service would be slow. I wouldn’t even dare suggest a picnic.
A plant for the front porch might be a nice idea. Usually my siblings beat me to it, though. My sister will definitely give flowers. I just don’t know. If I had time to browse at TJ Maxx, I might find something, but my time is extremely limited. Even a craft from my kids isn’t happening because our revised Saturday plans are not compatible with that. (I do plan on having them write a note and decorate it.) Oh well, I guess I’ll come up with something. I have a few ideas for Saturday night shopping, but I’m under pressure to get home, put the kids to bed, and start the Saturday night shift of work before it gets too late. Ugh. May is always rough for me, but this year it seems rougher than ever.
Ha, agorrophobic, not phogic, LOL. Still not sure of the spelling of the first half.
Oh, on my “unofficial day off” yesterday, I got a bunch of little projects done around the house. Cleaning out cupboards and such. I’ve been pretty good about getting a little done here and there, in between work and kid stuff. So the amount of space being used by me and my kids is getting smaller, but unfortunately it is getting filled in all too fast by other people’s junk. Oh, well. I can only control my little corner of the world, right?
And as for diet, I am ever so slowly getting closer to my goal. This morning I was 2lbs away from it. Just a little change here and there, and discipline, and patience, and I think I will get there. Then here’s hoping I can stay there.
A almost “Happy Mothers Day” to all 🙂
I have only one wish for the weekend!! SUN please 🙂
have fun with your mom Nikki 🙂
All have a great day 🙂
Gotta get ready for work 🙂
Joy hope you are feeling better.Have a great mothers day 🙂
It’s OK to talk about Baseball. I don’t mind at all that’s how I learn about new things. Seeing what people love and then being curious about it. I appreciated your wish for a warm Summer I am ready too, so ready. It doesn’t really seem fair to weather the Winter and not have the cherry on top Spring and Summer. Thursdays seem to be flying by. I have no plans for Mothers day maybe buying a couple of plants for the Garden this year. I want to plant more rainbow swiss chard it was so good last year. My back still hurting, I can only sit at the computer short amounts of time. I had a massage at the college yesterday, that was nice it seemed to help. Navar had arranged it for me. What a sweet guy. Well, have a good week-end girls. Glad your spending it all together.
I don’t have a whole lot going on today but am busy just the same. I wander in one room and start something, wander into another, same thing and end up getting nothing done. I did wash all the plants on my desk hutch this morning.
Today is the first day in 3 weeks that the pollen count has gone from the high range to the moderate range so now I’m just praying it’s not raining/snowing or freezing tonight so I can go to Bailey’s game. I’d love to go. If you see this Nikki, where’s the park? I really feel the need to get behind the wheel and GO SOMEWHERE.
Mother’s Day should be fun. We are having a Sub Sammy buffet. Doesn’t that sound fun? It sounds “easy” to me and there won’t be much to clean up.
I am feeling very bad for a fallen police officer Sgt. Joseph Bergeron. His funeral is going on now and I always feel bad when this happens. He was shot to death just sitting in his car. How senseless is that?? It always does something to my heart seeing all those officers like that. All the cars and the dogs and the sea of blue.
I’m off now for a while. Have a good day all.
Oh I’m SO happy!!! My fingers will be crossed until I see you! Bailey will be so happy too! 🙂 And he’s pitching tonight!!! OH HAPPY DAY!!!!
I watched the news coverage of the funeral too. So incredibly sad! I feel for his wife and children. 😦
Joy, I hope you do get to go see Bailey play. I hope you are able to get out more, soon!
Yes, the stars all aligned right. I’m taking off for the game now.
I think for Mother’s Day my family is cooking dinner for me. I think my husband is shopping around for either King Crab Legs or live lobster. I need to ask my youngest some more questions to be sure! She can’t keep a secret to save her life!
I have been super busy with school programs and Softball. Last Saturday I ended up having to keep score for the 1st time. What a pain in the butt that was!! Then I did such a good job they wanted me to be the official team score keeper! UM… NO!! I told them I would help out if absolutely needed but that is it. I couldn’t even get up to go to the bathroom!!
Oh we just love crab legs!!!!! Enjoy, whatever they make…it’s YOUR day!
I’m doing everything and nothing around here. Like everyone else, I have Chore A.D.D., and get started doing one thing, and then discover something else that needs to be done, and pretty soon, I’ve got six projects started and scattered about the house… and then Josh comes home, and I have to play with Legos instead!!
I don’t even know what to make for DINNER, for the love of pete!! I MUST get my monthly menu done. I’m totally and utterly lost without it.
And I have so. much. CRAP. that I have to get rid of. Clothes that have gotten shoved to the back of the closet that are out of style, purses and bags that I found on sale and used once, books, stuff, and the TOYS. God help me, the toys are taking over! And it doesn’t help that I have The House With The Barn, which translates to, “store it here, ’cause I have the room!’ I’m running out of room. Either Goodwill or Ebay are going to get some serious deposits, if I can help it. It also doesn’t help that I’m trying to overcome my pack-rat tendencies. It’s becoming a serious affliction.
The BIG thing I have to do is get my garden in order. I have a bunch of plants started in the house, waiting to be put into the ground. My tomatoes are 18” high, already! I have the spot, but it needs to be cleaned up, and my neighbor has generously offered me a bunch of his compost to fill it up (the dirt has been eroding away over the past couple years). I haven’t done it because the weather’s been so freakish… it was shorts weather earlier this week, and tonight, they’re forecasting frost again. And do NOT talk to me about wind!! I lost a couple shingles off the house yesterday in that blow. Now I have to add “get roof re-done” to my ever-expanding To Do list. Right under, “find a full-time job.” sigh.
To my knowledge, there is nothing on the schedule for Mother’s Day, but then, it’s not my job to make those plans, is it? If nothing happens, I’ll make the executive decision to go to Pizza Hut for dinner. I am NOT cooking!
I did order my mom a cool Mom’s Day Gift, but I can’t say anything here, because she occasionally lurks! It’s hard for me to find stuff for her, too, because I live far enough away that I have to do a lot of mail-order stuff. This time, my brothers chipped in, and we were able to do a good one.
Anyway, there’s my weekly update… no sports things going on yet. T-ball doesn’t start until next week, and then there’s Soccer and Swimming over the summer. Tae Kwon Do will end at the end of May, and re-start in Sept, so that’s a good thing. And we’ve just scheduled a vacation with my parents at the beginning of June which can’t possibly be bad because it involves a cabin, a lake and fishing.
So, Happy Mother’s Day to all… have a good weekend, and here’s hoping the wind will finally just quit.
Not so much doing on mother’ day for us. Sons are in Holland.I hope you all have a great Mother’s day and Joy, good luck with your allergies. It is so annoying, take care. Nikki, thanks for the post again!
Happy mothers day to all. I will be busy working….
I’m too far away from my mom to just pop-in for the day.
