I got my first cell phone the year I went to college (1998) and it was so-so. Not the real big ones, but by no means little either! Coverage was spotty and I really only had it for emergencies while traveling.
I’m with Sue. I got mine I think in 99 and it was a Noika. Very basic, hardly worked but I also just got it for insurance in case I got stranded somewhere. Pretty much the same reason I have one now.
I got my first phone when i was in college, the phone isn’t good.

I got my first cell phone in 98. It was huge!!! It was a nextel. It was very basic and had spotty coverage. My phone that I have now has internet access, gps navigation, tv, radio, and a music store. “crazy how much they have changed”
Let’s see, I got mine around 1993. Considering how cheap I am, the only reason I did it was because my parents (60 miles away) were included in my “local” area whereas it was long distance to call them on my regular phone. So I figured I was going to save a bunch of money with the “mobile phone.” Because my parents live in the boonies, I was advised to buy this big murgatroid which had a stronger signal than the smaller phones. It was as big as a shoebox, black and rectangular with a heavy receiver connected by a wire, and it weighed a few pounds at least. I didn’t use it much, but kept it in the car in case of emergencies. Eventually I switched it out for a phone that was closer to the size my foot. Very streamlined!

I think I got one when I was 17…so 9 yrs ago. Nothing special
Oh I don’t know. Mid 20’s I suppose. I don’t really remember. I know that it was a Nextel though, and I still have it.
I also got mine around 1998 or 1999. It was nothing special… but I do remember it being huge!
I thuink it was in the late 80s or early 90s. Anyway the first cell phone I had was a… BAG PHONE. Then I had the next greatest one which had about an eight inch antenna on it. It was so big that if I had it today I could actually stick it behind one of my tires to keep it from rolling down hill! lol
My brother gave me one in case of emergency. Very sweet of him. I think I’ll go call my brother in a minute. ;+)
