I used to do this, but I find that as soon as I have a lot of something, my desire to eat/use it diminishes. There are just a few things I keep an extra supply of, because running out is not an option. Actually, only one thing that I absolutely must not run out of, ever: coffee! At one point I believe I had 8 or 10 jars of unopened instant coffee in my cupboard. I stopped buying for a while, but I still need to keep at least 2 extras “just in case.” (I drink a brand that is only available in one store that I know of, and they are sometimes out of stock.)

I just went tonight so that’s why I thought of this question. I buy ziplock bags and paper plates in bulk because they are so much cheaper. I also buy AA and AAA batteries for the same reason. Printer ink and picture paper I always have on hand. I have a Sonic toothbrush and I buy the replaceable heads and razor blades there. Those last almost a year and are a LOT cheaper than anywhere else.

I should buy purple hairclips in bulk. A certain someone manages to lose hers almost every day. Sometimes they turn up days later, sometimes not.

I buy meat. We go through chicken like crazy, and every now and again, I find boneless/skinless breasts in bulk for less than $2/lb, which is a pretty good price. Occasionally, our local grocery, which has a really good meat counter, has ribeye steaks for $5.99/lb, which is almost highway robbery. The kicker is that you have to buy the entire loin, which generally comes to around 12 lbs. So it’s an investment. They’ll cut and wrap the individual steaks for you. I just have them cut them, and wrap them as a giant loin. Then I bring them home (I do this with the chicken, too), clean them if it’s needed, and go to town with my vacuum sealer. I do this with ground beef, too – they do similar sales on it, where you buy a 10 lb. tube, and pay like 80 cents a pound.

I stock other things, too, but not as much. Mostly toilet paper, although I do have an ’emergency pantry’ which most “emergency experts” would laugh their backsides off at, but it’ll keep us going for a couple days if the power goes off. We’ll be sick of Spaghettio’s and Spam at the end of the seige, though.

We usually buy plates, cups, toilet paper, napkins, pasta, tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes & other foods. I love Sam’s Club!! Usually end up spending too much money when we are there.

We buy several household items in bulk (e.g. trashbags, toilet paper, paper towels, soap, detergent, dryer sheets). In general we do not buy food because we are only 2 people and cannot eat that much. There are some exceptions: frozen fruit and cereal.

We buy the giant size of condiments. We stock up on our Spicy Ranch when it’s sale. As for bulk, like Sams Club bulk, no, we don’t shop there or any place like that.
