Our local art museum is under renovation, so they only have a few “boring” sections open. I have taken my kids there a couple times anyway. There were only a few other people around (besides the guards). One of the paintings from Germany shows a scene from up in the mountains, and includes a goatherd, among other things. To get my kids interested, I started singing (quietly, of course) the “Lonely Goatherd” song from their favorite musical, The Sound of Music. The guards looked at me like I was crazy and borderline criminal. I’m still not sure exactly what the problem was.

I burst into that song a few weeks ago too. How funny is that? I just think that’s one of the best songs in musical history.

Funny thing is, I didn’t know that song before I bought the soundtrack for my kids. I just never hit the radar screen in my younger life. But now, I love it too! Something my kids and I can”usually” agree on, LOL.

    Hello Joy,

We adults often think that our kids are bored stiff by art. Usually because they protest loudly. But I have a poem that my son wrote when he was about 9 years old. It was in response to a painting by Wendy Morgan. Our children take in a lot more than we think they do! Anyhow, I would like to share it , if that is okay. Hope all is well with you. I sure know how it is to be tired and overextended. But I’m still here…

I was walking through the forest.
I heard the sounds of nature.
I looked around, I looked up.
I saw birds signing solos and soaring
    high above the trees,
Singing out of their beaks so loud.
    It sounded like church.
I could live in the wild all of my life and death
    would never come.
