Happy Thursday All

Happy Thursday everyone. I hope you’re all okay. I’m excited today. We get to go to our county fair tonight and again on Saturday. I just LOVE going to that. It’s small enough that you get to see the whole thing and aren’t horribly tired when you’re done. I really don’t know what my favorite part is. Of course there’s the food. You really can’t go wrong with deep fried or ice cream. Then there’s the 4-H. I love looking at all the kids work. Here’s our local group.  Trinity is in the second row, first on the left. She made that dress. Need I say proudness???

I also love to see all the booths. The Tupperware, Creative Memories, Pampered Chef…..the list goes on and on. I also love seeing what just the community brings in to show. The flowers and fruit and all that stuff is so fun to look at. I love it all. Then I go back on Sat to get everything I wished I’d gotten on Thurs. Then there’s the midway but we skip that now it being just us two old people. Do you go to any of these kinds of things?

I’m also excited for today because my new cleaning lady starts. The best part of that is she’s personally known and works for a good friend of mine. I’ve kept up pretty good but I’m really looking forward to this place getting a good scrub down.

So, what’s shakin’ with all of you?

That sounds like the county fair out by my parents’ house. We plan to go there next week. I love that it’s small and not horribly crowded – yet when it comes to real “country” stuff like livestock, it’s a lot bigger than the ones in more urban areas. I worked as a carney one year so I got to compare, and the closer you got to the city, the fewer actual live things they had on display. Sounds logical I guess, but if you’re used to the small-town fair, the big-town ones are pretty disappointing.

Only thing I hate about the fair is the tractor pulls. They are super loud and they ruin everything else you might be wanting to do. They always have them on the weekend because they are so “popular.” My parents’ house is maybe 1.5 miles away from the fairgrounds, and the loud, obnoxious, seemingly endless noise permeates the walls and generally ruins the day.

I will spend the next 4 days at the fair! Not all day every day, but I will be there at some point every day. Tomorrow Trin and I work at the 4-H food stand with our club and then we’re meeting Paul/Joy and my husband/son to walk around and see everything. I’m VERY PROUD to say that Trinity got blue ribbons on all 3 of her projects today!!!!! Tomorrow when we go we will see if she got anything extra. (Grand Champion/reserve grand/class champion). Friday her club performs their Share the Fun skit, Saturday she’s doing the pet show with her hermit crab and Sunday we can take everything home. I was going to write a post about, but looks like I just told you all about it!

Other than that, nothing much is new. Work is still slow so that doesn’t bode well for anything. My garden is doing great though and we had chicken quesadillas for supper with tomatoes, peppers and onions from the garden 🙂 Yum Yum!

That is funny, our local fair started today also! I am not sure I go there, it is more like a fair with roller coasters etc. and some animals. Not that big or interesting.
Today I went to the hairdresser and she did a good job. Because of all the sun, my hair bleaches into a very blond/white color. I colored it darker, which looks much better.
Further not that much news from here. Tomorrow and Friday working and maybe the weekend off. Have you all a great weekend!

Our Fair was a couple of weeks ago, and Josh took his girlfriend there, for their first date. They were incredibly adorable, holding hands and racing from one ride to another. Her little brother accompanied them and acted as chaperone. He’s 4, I believe.

We have a tiny fair, but I enjoy it anyway. Lots of livestock, a large barn with the “vendor” displays, and yummy food – the Pork Producers, the Beef Council and the Dairy Association always have booths, and they really show their stuff. Nothing notable is deep-fried, though. That’s saved for the State Fair, where they present the most vile combinations of fried food ever. Last years big deal was deep fried candy bars (yes, deep fried snickers, milky way, etc), and…. deep…fried…BUTTER. g.a.g.

Life for me has been more than a little crazy. We just got home today from a trip home to see my oldest nephew marry his college sweetheart. Funny, he’s almost 26, and has been a cop for several years, but every time I look at him, I still see the little boy who “helped” me move into my dorm, and when he disappeared, I found him in the girls bathroom, crawling under the stall walls after locking all the doors from the inside!! But it was a beautiful wedding, and I’m sure they’ll be happy. And pretty soon, he’ll have his own little one to lock HIM out of the bathroom!! HAH!

Awesome news on Trin’s BLUE RIBBONS!!

I really enjoy going to the Fair too. Mostly for the food and exhibits but the bonus for me is WATCHING ALL THE WIERD PEOPLE!! 🙂 Our Fair isn’t until the end of October. 😦

    • Laura says:

Wow… the end of Oct. That seems really late!

      • mssc54 says:

Yeppers and it’s a toss up as to hot or cold temps. I prefer warmer temps. People can dress “normally”. That way there is usually a side show most anywhere you look! 🙂 Halloween night is always a popular night at the Fair too. The crazies really cut lose then! lol

  6. Jenny says:

I always get so excited when the fair comes. I usually have a list of foods to get. Gotta have the cotton candy…yum! Eat at the church food stand. They have the best burgers! Grab a sno cone. Maybe eat at the 4-H food stand. I see that this year they have a new building! So really I just go there for the food. You could walk the whole fair in like 15 minutes. It’s always a fun and exciting time though. It’s gonna be hot this weekend for it 😦

    • Joy says:

I love the sno cones at this fair. I love that they come in those cups and not paper cones. Last year I got pineapple. YUMMY! I also love the homemade French fry guy. When are you guys going? Are you taking Hunter to the Posse stuff on Sat? I hope to to go. It’s supposed to get humid for the weekend though so I have to play it by ear.

  7. Just a Mom says:

I guess I am too much of a City Girl… we don’t do the County Fairs here. Our big thing is our Church/School Bazaar in the Fall.
Trinity did an awesome job on her dress! My mom used to sew all the time. I’m kinda sorry I never took it up. The best I can do is sew on a button and even that isn’t very pretty!
We are in back to school mode here at my house. My youngest goes back to school next Friday. My oldest daughter goes back in 3 weeks I think.

  8. Nikki says:

We don’t normally do the county fairs either. If anything we go tot he State Fair, once. In the 12 years I have lived here, we have gone to our fair once. We did go to see Trin do her fair thing last year.

Today is an exciting day for us, we get to meet the rest of the team Jason has worked hard getting together. We have 4 from our team, and the rest are from the 10AAA team. Should be an outstanding team. The best of the best. Either way, it’ll be fun! Jason is coaching, and as worried as I was about that (he’s kind of a hard ass) I think he really do great at it. He loves it SO much! I don’t know anyone more passionate about baseball, other than his son! LOL So first practice starts this evening, and the first game is Sept.10th!

We have lots of plans in the next two weeks. We have a friend flying in tomorrow from AZ for a few days. Saturday we are doing a BBQ at the lake. Then I have a good girlfriend flying in from Alaska, and we’re planning a girls night at friends house…we’re having midnight margaritas at a friends pool!

And my birthday is next Saturday. I really have no clue what we’re doing. I don’t want a party, I’d rather just go out for the day with Jason and Bailey…maybe go carts, or mini golf, then supper. I have made hints at what I want, but I highly doubt I’ll be getting that gas powered weed eater.

Have fun this evening at Trins Fair. Take pictures so we can see!!!! I absolutely love the dress she made!

    • Joy says:

I hope all goes well with the fall ball. Jason should be good at it as long as he takes three deep breaths sometimes! LOL!! Jason would have played baseball year round and I think the only reason he played any other sport is because it was that or nothing. I can see Bailey loves it the same way.

I just love this fair. It was fun with all of us there last year. You guys spent the weekend in the camper. Aw…..that was fun. This fair is the perfect size for us. The state fair is too far and too big for us. I can see when you’re young. We used to go but it’s not worth it to us now. I love the animals and crafts and this fair is perfect. I also love to watch kids being interviewed by the judges with the farm animals they have entered. It’s really interesting.

I didn’t know you had friends coming. Have a great time.

  9. starlaschat says:

The fair thats funny great minds think a like. I was just thinking of the fair today in my post. Putting it on my todo list. I agree it is a bunch of fun and I am looking forward to going to the Fair here. It is like your Fair a small home town event. I hope you have lots of fun. I need to make a call to see what day our Fair is here I know it should be coming up. I like to see the animals and the flowers and the stuff people enter. Glad to hear you have a new cleaning lady. It is really nice to have a clean house. Try not clean, before she arrives. ;+) Funny how people will do that.

    • Joy says:

I HAVE been “tidying” up Starla!! It feels strange having her come for the first time. Nikki is the only one who ever did it for me before and she’s family so it felt different. We talked and stuff. I almost don’t know how to act or what to do. I also don’t want to pay her to “pick up for me,” why pay money for that? I’m really just moving the rugs and kitchen chairs and stuff so she can just come and jump right in.

      • starlaschat says:

I knew you would be :+) tidying up. You will get into the swing of her coming bynto help. Just stand back and watch her go! And enjoy the sparkle.

      • SKL says:

I used to be so anal about cleaning. Nobody could do it right except for me. But once you get to the point where it’s not getting done without paid help, you get used to the idea.

I also clean up the clutter because (a) I don’t want to pay for stuff that’s quicker for me to do, (b) they won’t put it in the right place or put it back the way they found it, and (c) you never know whether they will move it to clean under it. If I don’t have time to clear up or if I’m stuck clearing someone else’s clutter, I just throw it on top of the furniture, since they don’t clean there anyway. There are few things more irritating than having to dust my furniture after the maids just spent 3 hours supposedly cleaning.

One thing that always gets my goat is that our maids seem to feel the need to put everything back different from they way I had it. Let’s take my bath towel, for example. I hang it up a certain way so it will dry completely before it has a chance to get mildewy. They take it off the rack, fold it, and put it back on. Why? After probably 10 years, don’t you think they would have noticed by now that I ALWAYS hang it a certain way and maybe there’s a reason I like it that way? I could list 100 things like this. So not only do I clean before the maids, I clean after them too.

But I’m still happier with maid service than without.

        • SKL says:

I should clarify “throw it on top of the furniture” means the beds or upholstered furniture. Our maids do clean on top of stuff like tables and dressers. However, it is not unusual for them to miss a side table, or wipe around something rather than move it. Since they only come about once a month, I can’t just leave it nasty until next time.

        • mssc54 says:

“I used to be so anal about cleaning. Nobody could do it right except for me.”

I could do so much with that if I was a stand up comic. lol

I haven’t been to a fair in years. The last time I went I was living in a small town and I entered on original muffin recipe (and the muffins). I took second place. My current husband doesn’t like such things, so we don’t go.

  11. Jingle says:

    used to be in one…
    lovely stuff.

  12. Vicki says:

Melissa, Jen and Hunter and I just returned from the fair. If you walk slow you can get thru the entire fair in about an hour..lol its so small. We didnt go thru the midway cause that dont start until 4pm. We had corndogs and a fruit smoothy today and i brought home for Sean his most favorite thing the Gyros. I will be back out there Fri night from 7pm-3AM patroling and then there again Sat at 1pm for the stick horse show we put on for the kids. I get my fill of the fair. Hope to see you there on Sat. =)
