    Parochial & public.

Now that I have a bit more time…

Those Nuns were down right mean! They would pull your ear AND actually did hit you with a yard stick! I did learn to play a mean game of marbles during recess though.

Paul has very hard and BAD feelings about nuns. It bothers him to this day. Don’t even get him started!!!!

My teachers paddled us regularly too. Some more than others, of course. I don’t have hard feelings about it, though. Mostly, I just wish teachers were better trained / mentored so they had more appropriate responses to classroom challenges. I think an occasional paddling is not a bad thing, but sometimes they did it out of frustration and not knowing a better way of coping.

Nowadays they can’t whomp on kids, but many still lack the wisdom to know how to deal with various challenges. I’m not sure the removal of the “Board of Education” is an improvement.

Public all the way. It was a small school (500 in the school) so you didn’t get lost in the crowd and could still play sports if you weren’t outstanding or didn’t have the right last name. My graduating class was I believe 98 and we all had a good time 🙂

  3. Joy says:

I went to public but back in the day when they first started busing, they were going to ship us to north MPLS and my dad was going to send us to a private (Catholic) school. He didn’t want us going so far away from home.

  4. Laura says:

Public all the way until college, which was a Catholic school.

  5. Jenny says:

Public and my graduating class was only 74!!

Jenny, tell Jason Laura just saw his question about her book and to go take a look. It was the question “how many grown up books have you reread?”

  6. Jason says:

I attended public school through 4th grade. After that I was homeschooled until I graduated.

  7. SKL says:

I attended parochial from K-7. My brothers were in public school, but my mom wanted me to start early, which the Lutheran school was more open to. The next year all the sibs transferred to my school. We moved when I was 12 and went to a rural public school after that. The standards were lower, but the environment was pretty nice. I actually liked it better. It was more laid back about stuff like dress code, which I appreciated.

Still debating what I will do with my kids, but I’m thinking Lutheran school once they finish KG at their current “school.”

  8. Ellen says:

    Catholic elementary school and Highschool.

  9. One year in parochial, the rest in public.

  10. Nikki says:

Public, and a lot of them!

  11. Just a Mom says:

Public school the whole time. My graduating class, if I would have graduated, was 618! Just the class of 1989 not the whole school! My older brother got to go to Catholic school up until 3rd grade. I was always jealous of him for that!
