HAPPY FRIDAY FRIENDS!

I have been waiting all week for this week to come to an end! It seems to be flying by too, which never happens when I want it to! 🙂

What is everyone doing this weekend? Anyone have fun plans? We do!!! I am so excited I can’t even contain myself. Jason and I are taking Bailey and our niece Trinity (Toby and Sues daughter) to Taylors Falls for the day on Saturday. We’ll hit Franconia Sculpture Park first, then head into Taylors Falls, have a picnic and then start our hike along the St.Croix River. There are these glacial potholes that are so fascinating in how they were created. I’m most excited to share this with Bailey and Trinity, and to see the looks of amazement on their faces.

Hiking and admiring this beautiful planet is one of my favorite things to do. It absolutely fascinates me. This planet, is amazing, and far too often taken for granted and not appreciated. I’ll be sure to take a TON of pictures, and will surely show them to you, maybe in next weeks Friday post! 🙂

I have a little story for you all….

We have new neighbors moving in down the street. I’m not sure what kind of people even own this house but they always rent to, how do I say this without sounding judgmental??? Trash. LOL Not sure what else to call them. Now the new ones moved in yesterday. As we are leaving our house, we notice the moving truck. Under the hood of the truck, next to the tire we notice a small child, we slow down, and suddenly another smaller child, probably 2 years old, running down the drive way and right into the road? At the same time, a small dog also runs into the road. What seems to be the dad, is standing up by the house and simply waves at us. Okay, how about getting your children away from the road. Still, we wave back, hoping someone runs to get this child running into the road. I see, what to me looks like the mother, finally running towards the road. Now, do you think she ran after the child, or the dog?! Stupid question, right? Well not everyone is so smart, sadly. Jason and I just looked at each other in complete disbelief. The dog, or the kid? The dog, or the kid? WHAT?! ***BIG SIGH** People…oh and to top that off,  this baby was in nothing but a diaper (which isn’t a bad thing) but it was practically down to the ground. Gross, poor baby! I am convinced it is people like this, that make it so darn easy for people to judge. How can you drive past that, and not?!

How was your week? Any dirty babies, running for their lives? Any plans to spend your weekend? It’s the last for us, before school starts. I plan to make the best of it! How about you?

I’ll think of more to say later but I’m so excited for you guys. We always went to Taylor’s Falls when the boys were little. I love it there and Bailey and Trinity are at such a good age. Have a great time.

About the neighbors, that’s just sad.

That sounds like a wonderful way to spend the weekend. I can’t wait until my kids are old enough to go to stuff like that and actually understand and put it all in perspective. As opposed to just trying to fall off cliffs and stuff.

That family sounds like a mess. I hope nothing bad happens to those little kids. I didn’t always hang onto my kids at that age, but they knew not to go into the street. I know how you feel about judging. We don’t “like” to do it – lest we be judged – and yet sometimes, how can you not? Reminds me of a time when I was at the park with my kids, and this lady with much younger kids (about 1.5 and 2.5) was busy romancing a guy who was obviously not their father, while the kids climbed all over play equipment meant for ages 5-12. The 1.5-year-old was way up on a platform 7 ft high with big kids whizzing by her, and Mom wasn’t nearby and wasn’t even looking in her direction. I let my kids climb on that equipment, but when they were 1.5 I was watching them, not getting all hot and bothered with some man! So yeah, I shouldn’t be judging, but . . . .

I’ve been thinking about making “judgments” but I’m kind of lost between figuring it out if it’s making a judgement or is it a first impression? If this is the first time you’re seeing someone, how can you not think OMG???? I know from then on it might be a judgement but man, how can you not think WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Please begin keeping written notes on those neglected kids.

I clicked on the link for your weekend fun spot. It looks beautiful! Have too much fun!!

As for my week and my weekend . . . sigh. I think I’ve had an OK week for the most part, but right now I’m kind of messed up because this evening was trying. My kids moved to a new classroom / new teacher last week, and this is their first full week of getting into the swing of things with all the regular teachers, coaches, etc. Miss A always has difficulty with transitions, so I’m chalking it up to that. She’s on a short fuse this week. Now unlike Miss E, who pouts and mutters when she gets angry, Miss A gets herself worked up into a tizzy, which usually includes whining that gets progressively more loud and shrill. Note, I do not do well with whining or shrillness. And sometimes she decides to be rude or do something blatantly wrong, like, yesterday she flung her beloved bear at me at bedtime (so Bear had to spend the night in time out). I am trying very hard to keep my composure and help my kid learn to bring herself down from the crazy tree. But I fear I am not making much progress. Tonight was the third consecutive night with sadness and crying at bedtime – which is not our norm at all. Lord, let this time of transition be short so we can get back to her normal, pleasant self. Luckily, Miss E is in a mellow mode nowadays, so that helps.

We do have plans for Saturday. Their ex/Saturday nanny has invited us for “brunch” at her house. So the plan is for me to drop the girls off there at 8am and then we’ll all go back around noon for lunch and bring some housewarming gifts. Then after the girls’ nap, I was planning to go to the zoo, because this is the last weekend they are open until 7pm. And then we are planning on going to see a ballet company perform at our nearby open-air auditorium. Tonight I told Auntie #1 that the only way I would go to the ballet is if they promised not to give the girls any sugar from nap-time onward. I do want to go, but I want it to be a successful outing, ya know? The way things have been going this week, I don’t know what to expect.

I think I mentioned that I met a woman at the zoo last Saturday, who is also a single adoptive mom of a 3-year-old girl. So we are trying to find things we can do together sometimes. Of course we both have very tight schedules, but we have a few ideas. She may meet us at the ballet Saturday night. We chatted on the phone for a while and it seems like we could be friends, although I have a feeling we don’t see eye to eye on “everything.” Anyhoo, let’s see how it goes.

Most likely my Sunday will be the same as every other Sunday (church, then work while my sister babysits). And Monday will probably be like Sunday, since the kids don’t have school.

Tomorrow (Friday) it’s my “turn” to pick the restaurant for our weekly group outing. Right now, I don’t feel like going anywhere. Hopefully I will be in a better mood tomorrow.

Just thought I’d mention that Miss A has been the sweetest little thing today . . . so far. Here’s hoping it lasts. I know, I know, “positive thinking.”

  5. Sue says:

Trin’s very excited 🙂 I will be spending my weekend at work. I’m on call and will leave my house tomorrow morning at 5:45am and not return until Tuesday morning about 6:45am. It happens to be my weekend and it also happens to be my holiday so the call gods handed me a sucky deal, but I can’t do much about it. Especially since we’ve been really slow at work! I can’t give up any chance to make some $. I will sure miss my family though and I know Trin will have tons of fun 🙂

  6. Laura says:

Well, we signed Josh up for Tiger Cubs (the first step in Cub Scouts) tonight. Our first ‘thing’ is at 8-lordhelpme-AM Saturday Morning. We’re to be at the junior high to clean up the field. Sunday starts the Leader Meetings. So this morning, I had no plans for the weekend, and now it’s filling up. Steve wants to go fishing somewhere along the line, too, so we’ll see how that goes.

I think I could forgive those folks a lot of stuff – even that nasty diaper – but not watching the kid or the dog? That’s begging for judgment. Or at least a very close eye on the road. Sheesh.

  7. Ellen says:

We might have the Dutch women club here Sunday, not sure yet. Have not contact the others yet! Way to busy here. Worked for the school, got hit in the face by a child, have a Angelina Jolie upper lip…looks pretty cool, lol. Then i had to work for the hospital for 4 hours, which was okay. Now getting ready for bed..what a life 🙂

I agree with Mssc54, if you see things going on with the kids of that family, write it down with date and, if possible, other witnesses. This is called child neglected, if I am correct. We have a house like that in our street also, lucky till now, the renters are pretty decent.

  8. shanef says:

Hope the weather stays nice for you guys this weekend. Taylors falls is pretty awesome, I used to go there a lot when I was in high school. We always went to canoe and ofcourse “cliff jumping” – until I realized how stupid and dangerous that is.

As far as my weekend I’m going to work all night Friday and probably sleep half the day on saterday, then I’ll probably go for a long cruise in my new toy!!

  9. Karen Joy says:

No dirty diapered babies in my neighborhood, maybe a few old folks in diapers though! Senior’s complex beside us,sometimes you have to keep an eye on them too!
My long weekend will consist of staining our deck if the weather co-operates.We’ve been wanting to do it for a few weeks but it always rains so here’s hoping for a nice sunny few days.I need to get my beets out of the garden too.Other than that I hope we have a day in there for some rest.My poor hubby has been working himself to death this summer and needs a “Do nothing”day or two and I’ll “do nothing” along side of him!:)Have a wonderful weekend everyone!Let us know how you enjoyed Taylor’s Fall’s Nikki, sounds like a fun time!

  10. Jenny says:

Sure did get chilly out today!! We’re not doing anything this weekend. Nothing exciting anyways. Hoping it’s gonna be nice out, not like today. Today is windy and cold…brrrr…. Too soon for this crap! lol.

Last weekend we bought 2 apple trees and planted those. Well one looks really good. The other one the leaves are turning brown already. Don’t know why it would be dying already. Gonna be really mad if it does die though! The leaves started to turn brown I would say 2 days after it was planted.

Well I hope everyone has a good weekend. Maybe if it’s warmer out Joy, we’ll maybe see you at the cabin one last time!!! 😀

    • Laura says:

The browning leaves could mean that the tree is in shock from the planting. I would call the nursery where you got the tree, or your local Extension Office (usually a state university sponsors “extension offices” and they’re great resources for all manner of things) – as for the Master Gardener. They should be able to help you.

  11. Joy says:

It is just freezing here today. I was tempted to turn on the heat. But I resisted that urge. The only trouble is I just want to lay in my chair with my comforter and knit or read and watch some trashy soaps! LOL!! I’m not kidding.

I’d like to spend more time at the cabin too but we’ll see what happens. I would like to work in my flowers if the weed pollen goes down. I need to reorganize them. I’ll call you Jenny if I dig up any flowers. I think Nikki is coming one day a week from now and that’s when I wanted to attempt all the digging but I do want to get some mums. I may go to the swappers meet in the morning. I’m sure it will be just packed. Are you guys going to be done going to the cabin this weekend? The fall is so beautiful there. We’re nowhere near ready to bring the boat home. I still want to take some cruises.

Not much else for us this weekend. I need a “nothing” weekend but I also want to work in the flowers so we’ll see.

  12. SKL says:

Temperatures are down here, too. I wouldn’t say “chilly,” but it was so nice to be able to go outside and not feel like I’m in an oven. Got a light rain, too. It is supposed to be in the 60s tomorrow. That is OK as long as it’s not raining AND cold when we want to be outdoors.

  13. Just a Mom says:

This weekend we are going to the John Mayer concert. Owl City is the opening band. There will be 5 of us going and it should be fun! Other than that we don’t have much planned. Just the usual… clean house, do laundry, etc.
