Question of the day

Best; the first cry of a new born infant.
Worst: your child crying over a life altering event.
The best sound are my kids’ laughter and the worst is their fighting!
I have to agree with Sue and mmsc54. The best sound is definitely my kids and grandkid laughing. The worst is when they cry because they feel hopeless. Unfortunately, my son feels that way today. He has been clean almost 5 months. A couple of days ago he had a fishing accident which almost tore off his left index finger. Because of the accident he couldn’t work. Now he doesn’t have the money to pay his weekly rent due today. I’d give it to him if I had it but I don’t. The rest of the family still doesn’t trust him yet. He talked to me after his AA meeting tonight and he is stressed out about the uncertainty of having a place to sleep and earning enough money. I don’t think he will go back to using. Hearing the sadness in his voice tonight was very hard. He has been so happy for these drug free months. I told him to trust in God and to trust in himself and that things will get better. I just don’t know if he believed me.
I have been in your son’s spot. It can be quite disheartening when you feel like you are finally making right choices and things STILL seem to get all screwed up!
If you know of someone who is willing to help him with his rent they could make out a money order to the landlord directly.
The easy thing now would be for him to go back to doing what used to make him feel good. I hope he talks to his AA sponser.
Poor Damon. Sometimes nothing seems to go his way. I sure hope he can get that rent paid. It’s so sad he might lose sobriety over this. Stress triggers a lot of crap. Joan please let me know how he’s doing. I love the pic you have of Damon and the Twin Towers on Facebook today.
best: Josh giggling/laughing over something.
worst: his cries when I had to leave him to go to Steve when the Wreck happened. That sound is kind of tied with the voice of the police officer on the other end of the phone saying, “your husband has been in an accident. Don’t come to the scene.”
Oh, yeah. One more “worst sound” …
that “hurka-gurka-gaaaaaaakkk” that the dog makes at 3 AM when he’s hurling up whatever that disgusting glob was that he ate in the back yard.
Oh man, that’s a bad one.
and it’s ALWAYS in the middle of the night. NEVER when i’m sitting around thinking, “gee, I wish I had something to clean!!” (like THAT ever happens)
Best: Kids laughing, Birds singing, Sound of a river or waterfall
Worst: Crying, Screaming, Dogs that bark non-stop
Best: yep, kids laughing it right up there. Also the sound of water and I LOVE the quiet.
Worst: MOUTH NOISES. I used to live next to two scottie dogs that barked NON stop. It drove me nuts Jenny. I called the cops once it was so maddening but of course they weren’t barking when they drove by. I do NOT miss those dogs.
I will go along with everyone else and say that I love the sound of children laughing hysterically. For the worst sound ever, I would rank the alarm clock going off at 4:30am during the work week near the top of the list.
Not to be a follower or anything, but I have to say giggly tickly kid laughter is the best! I was gonna say this even before I saw the other responses.
Not sure what I want to say is worst. I still remember my kid sister crying 28 years ago (age 2-3) just because she was too sick and weak to stop from crying. She normally never cried. But on a more mundane level, the sound of certain adults loudly clearing their throats and hawking (sp?) up phlegm while I’m eating breakfast. And one thing that probably shouldn’t bother me but does – the sound that car tires make on the road when they are going slowly around a bend. Sccrritchhh. I don’t know how to explain why that bugs me, but it does. Oh, and the sound of my phone ringing. It’s usually announcing a conversation I don’t want to have.
I love the sound of laughing in general, I feel sad wen people are crying and also when I hear guns..
Best sound hands down, is my son laughing. Like, really laughing…and little ones when they still get that cute belly laugh. Music to my ears!
Worst noise…uncontrollable coughing. My husband is horrible, once he gets going he can’t stop. I feel bad for getting irritated, but I do. Or when my son has a bad cough. Again, I feel really bad that irritates me but alas, it does!
