If you were going to be a Big Brother or Big Sister to a kid in your town, how would you spend your time with them?

That would depend on the likes and dislikes of the kid.

Yea depends on likes & dislikes, also on the age too… Maybe check out the zoos, parks, malls etc..

I would take them down to the beach. Believe it or not there are a ton of city kids here in Houston that have never been to the beach even though it is only 30-45 minutes away.

I think taking them to a park or something where you could have fun and maybe teach them something about nature at the same time would be a good idea

I think first I’d take her somewhere reasonably quiet where I could find out what she may be missing in her life, as well as what she enjoys. Maybe to the art museum or to the waterfall in the nearby forest park. Could be a restaurant if I could find a kid-friendly one that is also quiet. Then I’d go from there. Anything from nature to the arts to yoga would be fine with me.

I don’t think I really answered the question as to how I’d spend our time. I could see using it to help with homework or just talking about life if she was open to that. Maybe getting into a hobby she wants to pursue. Whatever would feel worthwhile for her.

I like the whole nature thing too. A picnic on a beach. Fishing. Playing in the sun and water. It’s got such a relaxing quality.

  7. Nikki says:

It would depend on their interests. Maybe the lake, a picnic, the park. Arts and crafts are always fun, for all ages.

Probably an out door project like fishing or a canoe ride or skiing. If the liked art maybe an art project like painting or drawing.

  9. Laura says:

It’d all depend on the kid. We live in farm country, so I’m thinking maybe a little bit of “city life” would be a good thing – museums, concerts, that kind of thing. But then again, lots of farm kids totally don’t want anything to do with the city, so maybe we’d be doing a lot more farm stuff…

I agree with all of you that it depends on the child.. but the whole getting out in nature would be great!
