TGIF

Hi All. How has your week gone? I’ve had a full one. I met my dad and his wife for lunch on Wed. They winter in AZ and they leave next week so it was that time. I also did a few errands while in Buffalo. Today I went and got my flu shot and checked out an exercise facility in Annandale. It’s not very far from here. Under 10 minutes so for the swimming, I think I’ll go. My aim is to go at least four times a week. If I don’t start tomorrow I will on Monday. I hope to go first thing in the morning. It looks like it’s a fun place. We have a spaghetti benefit for my brother-in-law who has cancer tonight. I hope they can earn some money. They’ve really spent a lot on this whole ordeal.

What’s new with you guys? What went on in your week and what do you have planned for the weekend?

This week has been soo busy! I have taken on the job of purchasing at work and that has been keeping me on my toes! My oldest daughter voted for the first time today. Texas has early voting for 8 days to make it easier on election day. She also has a job interview tomorrow. This will be in addition to her Senior year and her Vet intership, but she needs some money!! My youngest has been busy getting her school haunted house ready for next Friday! The 6th graders are in charge of this every year. This weekend we are going to the Houston Air Show. We try to go every year. This year we have the Air Force Thunderbirds.

This weekend is maybe shaping up to be fun… tonight, Josh has a birthday party – he’s going to be gone for 3 hours during dinnertime! I’m thinking DINNER OUT!! At a place that doesn’t involve clowns, trays, and wax-paper cups!!!

Tomorrow, if it doesn’t rain, we’re hoping to go to the Corn Maze – there are several around here, but the big one is an hour or so away… Bloomsbury Farm. They have tons of stuff for kids – the massive corn maze, a smaller kiddy corn maze, a play area for little ones (complete with corn bin where they have like, three feet thick of corn kernels for the kids to play in), a concession area, hayrides, and this gargantuan goat pen, where the goats can climb up a tower that has to be at least 20′ high, and you use a pulley system to get handfuls of grain up there to them. It’s a lot of fun, and I’m hoping the rain holds off long enough for us to go.

I also have a Halloween Costume to make. He’s going as young Anakin Skywalker this year (even though he’s never seen any of the Star Wars movies – he’s only seen Lego’s version – they have little “movies” on their site). Yesterday, I went to Goodwill and scored an officially licensed Star Wars Jedi Cloak in the exact color I needed. It’s not the material I wanted – this is more of a lycra, and I was hoping for a cotton/gauzy/burlapish kind of a thing, but I’ll work with it. I have to shorten it, and install some discreet buttons to help it stay closed. I also found pants, a belt, and then hit Hobby Lobby, and found leather strapping and 2 yards of material that I’ll use to make boots, gauntlets, and maybe supplement the belt. If it comes together in reality like it is in my head, it’s gonna be cool.

Dinner out at a grown up restaurant. How nice. I hope you enjoy yourselves. I get to eat “benefit” spaghetti on styrofoam plates!!!!! I can’t stand these fundraising things but we feel we need to be there. Styrofoam plates are worse than wax coated glasses. Don’tcha think?

Good luck with the Halloween costume. It’s supposed to rain here tomorrow and Sunday as well and we have a dreaded game against Green Bay Sunday night and we play like crap on nights. I hate them. I’d like to get to our apple orchard too. Maybe I’ll drive over there tomorrow morning. I love the apples there and the festivities.

Were in the HECK is everyone today??? Nobody around on FB either. I feel alone in the world. Somebody save me.

    • Laura says:

Sorry…. I was off paying bills all day. My quicken crashed, so now I have to reload the software and go back and do a buncha statement balancing and whatnot. Laura’s gonna be a cranky woman next week!!!

Anyway, I did end up having a nice adult-centered dinner with Steve. I had a Patty Melt – haven’t had one of those in ages, and this one was really good.

Sounds like they’ve downgraded the weather outlook to “scattered showers possible” instead of the original 75% chance of showers everywhere, so we might luck out and get to the maze after all. Should be fun.

  4. Nikki says:

Oh I wish I had known about the benefit dinner, I wouldn’t have made plans.

I am going to the Trail of Terror. A haunted maze in Shakopee, MN. I’m going with my mom, one of her best friend who flew into MN from CA yesterday. I’m also bringing a friend of mine, and my son. It should be a scary good time!

For the last couple of weeks, I have been preparing my body to start running. I started this week, and the first time on the track, I ran 5 miles. It felt great. The gal I go with is a marathon runner, and she wants me to do the Buffalo triathlon next year. I can do it!!

That’s it for now…I’m sure I’ll be back!

    • Joy says:

I didn’t know about it Nikki either until the other day. Sue said she saw it on FB but I didn’t. Paul only mentioned it like it was no big deal on Monday I think. I told him we had to go. It’s not that far and it’s going to be a really nice afternoon for a drive.

Have fun at the maze. Are you going tonight?

Way to go on the running. I think once you get used to it you’ll really like it. I joined that health place in Annandale yesterday and will start probably on Tues.

      • Nikki says:

It’s alright, would have been nice to see him, and everyone else. maybe next time.

yes, we’re going tonight, and we’re pretty excited. I debated on whether or not to take Bailey. I do think he’s old enough. I asked him if he wanted to go. He said, “yea, I like being scared if I know I’m going to be okay.” LOL And Sarah makes everything more fun, so it’ll be a great time!

    • Laura says:

I giggle every time I one of you writes “Shakopee”. Blame it on Cars. When Van and Mini are lost and drive into Radiator Springs, and Mini is talking about the time they went to Shakopee….

      oh, nevermind.

  5. Karen Joy says:

Oh Joy,I wish I could be your swimming buddy and go with you to get exercise.I would love love that.Id have to drive a good hour to get to a pool in winter,Ive seriously thought of doing that but its just crazy far,and in winter, naw!Hope you enjoy it.
I havent much to say about this past week or up coming weekend. Not much happening around here and maybe thats ok.Ive talked my hubby into doing a little shopping tomorrow, for end tables(sad but that actually really excites me,lol)I love to make changes in the house,I want to redecorate in the worst way!!!Just need money to rain down on me first! So its little bits here and there. Its all good.
Have a good weekend you all.

    • Joy says:

A little change here and there makes a big difference and it lifts you up a little bit. I wish you lived closer too so you could go with me but I really have to start. After I’ve gotten into the swing of swimming I’ll join all the other things it offers. They have weight training and dance lessons, water aerobics and all kinds of fun things. I am terrified of driving in the winter when it snows or there’s freezing drizzle but it’s only 10 minutes from here so I think I’ll make a good effort and once I lose some weight it may make my breathing easier.

  6. Jenny says:

Hey Joy, where in Annandale is that new place? Nothing exciting for us this weekend. Going to the Dr today. Haven’t been feeling well this past week. So I’m hoping I can be fixed! 🙂 Maybe I could talk Jason into putting the Christmas lights back on the house that have fallen down…and have been that way allllllll summer. (yeah ok, that sounds a little redneck) But he is from the south…hahahaha

    • Joy says:

It’s on 24 near the fire station and high school. It’s called The Wellness Center and it’s for 55+ but since I have a serious lung problem I’m eligible to join. It’s really REALLY nice in there and I think it will help me to be around other people more. I plan to go right away when I wake up in the morning.

      • Nikki says:

You will feel so much better, all around. I’m glad you found something. Is it open in the evenings, maybe Paul could go and get some much needed exercise too.

      • Joy says:

He could join but I need to go a lot more than he’s going to want to. Sometimes having him along is a hindrance if that makes sense. He’s happy the way he is, I’m not. I wish like crazy he’d go and lsoe weight but we all know he won’t. He could be off of a lot of medications if he would. Yet I’m the dumb one who smoked!!!???

  7. SKL says:

Well, I was thinking this week might be a little light work-wise, but it wasn’t. I had to drive Mr. Houseguest to work a couple days becasue he still hasn’t gotten his drivers’ license. That meant getting myself and the kids up early so I could shower in the a.m. and pack all my crap and get out the door earlier than usual. And then at work, my computer doesn’t like the wireless network or something, so it kept bombing in the middle of whatever I was doing. So I’d have to reboot and start everything over. What a pain, and not much to show for it. I hate working there anyway, because I can’t just get up and go eat whatever I want, the coffee isn’t how I like it, etc. Then on Thursday, I had to pick up the partners at the airport and attend 3 long meetings in a suit. Again a lot of discomfort for with little apparent result. However, the meetings were good. Only part that really sucked was that there was a lot of networking (hours of it) which involved standing in high heels the whole time. I don’t really network so for me, that meant finding someplace to become invisible while I waited to drive the others back to the office. So yeah, I was pretty exhausted by last night.

Wednesday was “open house” at the girls’ school. It didn’t go badly, LOL. Oh, funny thing, Tuesday I got a note from the teacher about Miss A. Miss A is normally very rule-bound and this is the first note I have ever received regarding her. It seems she kept pretending to have a gun! AND pretending to shoot said gun! She also had to be repeatedly asked to do / stop doing various little things throughout the day. So this teacher told me on Wednesday that her classroom is known as the “hippie room” partly based on her “no tolerance” gun policy. (Note, these kids are ages 3-4.) I simply told her that my kids are allowed to play “guns” at home as long as they don’t point at another person. (Note, they learned this game at SCHOOL.) But, they are also required to follow their teacher’s rules in her classroom. I explained that their grandpa has guns and I will not teach my girls that guns are wrong per se. She will just have to live with that, I guess. I dealt with the “not listening” behavior and as far as I know, it has not been repeated.

This morning I took the girls to meet with the pastor about getting baptized. We set a date in November. My sister will be their godmother. I was debating whether to invite people to the event. They are not babies, so it will not be the usual fancy christening stuff. Just a few quick splashes of water after the church service. I don’t want people to think they are obligated to attend, or to expect anything fancy. On the other hand, I recall being somewhat ticked that my SIL’s didn’t inform me when their kids’ baptisms would be (I accidentally happened to be there for my niece’s anyway). So I guess I will send an email telling people when it will be, and they can come if they want to. Now here’s hoping that nobody gets miffed about who I chose for the Godparent (who knows if anyone else would care to be one). I’m glad to be getting this all over with in one shot.

  8. SKL says:

Oh, as for this weekend, we have a couple of Diwali events tomorrow – one at a friend’s house, one at a nearby school (with Indian dancing). It will be a late night, so I hope the kids get a nap, and I hope I get lots of coffee!!

Also tomorrow, I plan to have the girls help me to put together treat bags for their class party.

I need to look into the “Boo at the Zoo” times for this year, too.

This week’s evenings have been relatively slow with the girls, because I cancelled some planned activities due to behavior. I am just too sick of not being listened to. My kids “hear” all too well, but they seem to think that “listening” (paying attention, acting on requests) is totally optional. I’m not too impressed with rudeness or drama, either. Things are improving, but I feel like I have to be as consistent as possible. So that means not doing some things I actually want to do. Hopefully it is a short-term sacrifice for longer-term benefit.

Next week, the girls have 3 “field trips” (one got moved from this week due to weather). Plus the class Halloween party. Good luck to the teachers! They are also supposed to dress up in different ways every day. I will spend part of the weekend trying to make sure we’re organized for next week.

  9. Jason says:

Ok I know I don’t normally don’t comment on this particular post. But I am so excited that my 2nd package finally arrived from Barnes and Noble, after taking 12 days, 4 of which were spent sitting in St. Paul. In it was the latest in the Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn, the title of which is is American Assassin. I have been almost a year for this book to come out. I literally pulled it out of the box and started reading it, and if I didn’t have school work that needed to be finished by Sunday I would still be reading it. Well I hope that everyone else has a great weekend.

    • Joy says:

That’s great Jason. I can truly appreciate the love of a good long awaited book. Get the homework out of the way first and you can just veg and read the book.
