It depends. If the book is really think I’d rather read soft-cover. If it’s a book I know I’ll want to hang on to or if it’s one of “my” authors, I buy hard just because I think they hold up better and they look never on my shelves. If it’s just for a fun read, I want to buy it the cheapest way.

  2. Jason says:

I like the hardcovers just because it is a little easier for me to focus on the words. But I will read either. Most of the ones I pick off the bargain shelves are hardcovers also.

  3. Sue says:

Ah, I guess I never thought about it before! The ones I’ve purchased recently were soft cover b/c they are not as expensive.

  4. Ellen says:

I do not mind. As long as the book is good, I read it. 🙂

  5. Laura says:

The ones that I buy, mostly softcover. There are precious few authors whose books I will buy – Nora Roberts, Vince Flynn – because for a while, in college, I was buying every book I read, and ended up carting boxes and boxes and boxes of books across the country when we moved. So I got rid of most. Now, I’ll buy, but only from those authors, and only when the softcover comes out. Much easier to stick it in my purse/bag when we’re going places, and I want to have a book with me.

The only hardcovers I’ve bought recently have been the Harry Potter series (and it’s been read so much that I’m approaching replacement), and cookbooks.

I do prefer hardcovers from the library, though. They tend to be less beat-up, and more likely to possess all of their pages!

  6. SKL says:

The only time I buy hardcover is when there is no paperback version available. I waited patiently for the HP books to come out in paperback before I read them – except for the last one, which I borrowed from the libarary. I also give away most books as soon as I finish reading them. I don’t have space to store them, and unless it’s a really good book, it’s rare that I would choose to re-read it.

  7. Nikki says:

It makes no difference to me as long as I can read it. Which reminds me I need to get back to reading. I haven’t made the time, and I miss it.

  8. lucy says:

Usually soft. they are not as heavy to hold and/or carry around

  9. kweenmama says:

Doesn’t matter to me. It is what is on the inside that matters.

  10. Just a Mom says:

Depends what kind of cover we are talking about! 😉

Oh, I’m sorry it’s books wer’e talking about! I prefer hardcover books. It just makes it feel more booky to me!
