Question of the day from SKL

Going up and down the sliding hill with Hunter. Chasing him around the house. Play Just Dance on the Wii, other than that I don’t exercise!
Stay fit? What’s that?
I have my treadmill and my Turbo Jam videos that I do regularly. The other day when the ice melted on the road I did go for a run and it felt great! Was that last Wed maybe? I also snowshoe which is an incredible workout when you have to break trail! I will have buns of steal in no time doing that!
I don’t remember asking this question. Maybe I was thinking about the fact that I am now, for the first time ever, a willing and active member of a rec center, and I target a weekly swim with my kids. Well, they are too little to be left alone in the water, so I don’t actually swim, but I get some decent exercise anyway. Most other days, I find something for the kids to do, but I don’t do much. We go to McD’s play place on Mondays, but all I can do is walk around the tables and sip my coffee while the other patrons wonder whether I’m a mental case or a pedophile. Stuff like that. Last year, I bougth movement videos for the kids and I would do the movements with them. Yoga, dance, etc. That was actually a good workout. But now we don’t come home before bedtime most evenings.
The other adults in the house decided that “we” would buy an elliptical machine for our Xmas present to ourselves. It now sits in our living room. Actually I was glad to see that it’s really quiet and I might not mind doing some exercise while my kids watch videos. But I’d rather do something where the kids would be exercising, too. Maybe add an additional evening at the pool? Hmm.
I really enjoy the elliptical machines at our gym. I find it fun, especially compared to the treadmill or the bike. Maybe because it’s easiest on my knees? But ours has several different settings – hills, cross country, weight-loss, that kind of thing. I mix it up, and even do some backward pedaling (that will work different muscle groups in your legs). It wears me out, but it’s also done before I know it. Especially if I combine it with a radio program I wanted to listen to, or a good TV show.
Winter is traditionally for my work so I am not quite as active. However I do go on hikes with the kids.
But when I am stuck indoors… We have a loveseat with two built in recliners so I figure the more I recline in it and sit back up that’s sort of a sit up. Right? 🙂
I picked up running inside our local HS track which is SO nice. They spent so much money on that place! We are there 3-4 nights a week, so much that we are teased that we never leave! It’s our 2nd home! lol
I also have an elliptical machine, which I hate but I try to get on it a couple times a week. Now that I have an iPod, it’ll be easier to get on.
Did you figure out how to charge it? You probably only need to hook it up to your computer.
I’ve got a regular iPod, and that one, you charge when you’re hooked into your iTunes. You can also buy a wall-charger and a car charger. Check Wal-Mart/Target for “Belkin” brand products… they have iCompatible iStuff.
Oh and I don’t have an iTunes account yet, b/c Jason had a friend load mine up with songs before he wrapped it. I was going to do that today, b/c Bailey got an mp3 player and an iTunes gift card, but he had batting practice. I will do that tomorrow.
I was hooking it up to my computer, but I didn’t know that first you had to sync it to the computer. If anything like that pops up, I don’t mess with it. I let Jason do it, then if it breaks our computer he only has himself to blame. So he did all that, and it charges fine now.
Right now, I get whatever exercise that life hands me, whether it’s shoveling snow, or sitting on my butt thinking about what to write for the Question of the Day.
Coming up after Jan 1 (because that’s when Josh goes back to school, and it’s easier to deal with), I’m back at the gym, and on the elliptical. I may add some weights to it, but I really, REALLY hate weight lifting, although I know it’s good for me. So that’s a toughie. But I know I need to get the muscles in shape, so I’ll do it.
The weird thing is, I have crazy endurance, cardio-wise. I can go forever. So I have to find a balance between “wear out my muscles quickly” and “get a good cardio workout”. I think I can find that on the elliptical better than i can on the treadmill or the bike. Come spring, I’ll hit the roads again, and maybe do some hiking.
Also, Josh got me a toboggan for my birthday, so I’m hoping to add “sledding” to that first paragraph.
I’m going to add “play with the Wii” to the list of things to do in winter. This is FUN!!!
