Well how do you make yours??
I use Manwhich now but I used to use a combo of ketchup, mustard and I’d cut up a small onion. I hate the peppers but both my boys like the Manwhich they ate somewhere else.
meat, brown sugar, onions, peppers, tomato sauce, diced tomato, tomato paste, red wine vinegar, worcestershire sauce, salt & pepper
I’d rather try yours Jenny. I don’t really care for Manwhich. Yours sounds good.
Yes Jenny’s is delicious. I make it the same way now too.
I need measurements Jenny. At least until I make it once.
It’s a Rachael Ray recipe. I don’t measure anymore. But I went and found the recipe for you:
1 1/4 ground beef
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 med. onion- chopped
1 small red pepper- chopped
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
2 cups tomato sauce
2 tablespoon tomato paste
Put meat in pan, add brown sugar. when meat has browned add onion & red pepper. Reduce heat to medium and cook 5 min. Add vinegar stirring briefly to reduce, add worcestershire, tomato sauce, & paste. Reduce heat to simmer and cook 5 min. longer.
oh and grill seasoning too. if you don’t have that use salt & pepper
Thanks Jenny. I will for sure try this. It’s why I asked. I’m not crazy about the way I make them and know other people make them different.
Joy, it appears you returned those books one day to soon!
No kidding Jason.
I use Manwich, I don’t add anything to it.
I use Manwich too. I like the flavor and it’s easy! Jenny, post your recipe!
I don’t, ha ha! If I did, I’d probably just use Manwich.
I make them different every time, because I don’t have a recipe. So pretty much… brown the ground beef with some chopped onion, a BUNCH of minced garlic (because you can never have too much garlic), salt and pepper. Drain the grease. Return to pan, add some tomato sauce and a pinch or two (or more) of brown sugar to taste. That’s the basics of it. I serve them open-faced on hamburger buns, and often add a slice or two of american cheese.
Depending on my mood that day, I may or may not add: Wooster sauce or liquid smoke (only a drop or two at a time), or I might switch out the tomato sauce for barbecue sauce (Bulls-eye Hickory). I might also add some green pepper to the saute phase, if I have it.
I really just start with the beef and start throwing things at it until it tastes right.
I checked with Maxine….She says brown some ground beef and add a can of Manwich! Seriously, though, I don’t cook but my daughter adds a little onion and brown sugar. They’re always very tasty when she makes them.
