Does “every” day count? Seems like I’m ALWAYS doing a load of laundry!!

  2. Phyllis says:

No certain day, just whenever I have the time and feel like.

Sure – whenever I am not rushing to meet a deadline, not being supervised or browbeaten (because I’m SO lazy), and have a chance at getting the clothes washed, dried, and folded/hung up before somebody else decides to throw them out.

Thursday night upon returning from swimming is a good time to squeeze in one load. Makes more sense than hanging up the wet stuff all over the place. Then I usually sneak in 1-2 additional loads once every 2 weeks. When I’m really “free” I might even do bedding or something. Ha!

Oh, as for other housework – I do most of the piddly stuff in “real time.” I wash dishes as soon as I’m done eating off them, etc. Put stuff back after use, dirty clothes in the hampers, papers in the to-do piles, garbage in the garbage. Wipe down the bathroom fixtures as I go, pick up stray hair, etc. (I do this for myself & my kids, but try not to clean too much of others’ mess, as that encourages more inconsideration.) I usually don’t do stuff like sweeping, dusting, etc., because we have maids who come and do that once a month. We don’t have pets, don’t cook, and rarely entertain, so it’s not really necessary to do it more often.

I clean, as in pick up and sweep the floor and organize on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. I take Saturdays off!

I deep clean my bathroom once a week…usually towards the end, Thursday or Friday.

I dust on the same day. I vacuum just about every day, maybe every other. I mop as needed. I do about 2 loads of laundry a day. One light, one dark. I find if I do that, I never get overwhelmed by it. I’m home, it’s my job.

I usually clean during the week on my day off, but last week I didn’t do it so I started cleaning on Saturday. I spent 2 hours cleaning both bathrooms top to bottom! That’s what made me think of the question. I clean the sink and toilet at least once, if not twice, a week, but I don’t always clean the showers. They were looking pretty grimy so that’s why it took me so long to clean so that got me thinking about what everyone else does! I also try to do a couple of loads of laundry every couple of days so it doesn’t become overwhelming, but that was also neglected this week. I now have, IDK, like 7 loads of laundry everywhere in my room that I am refusing to put away b/c I just don’t want to yet!!! Wow, this must be the longest response to a QOD I’ve ever given!

I used to hate cleaning the tub, but what really helped was Tilex. You keep it in the tub and spray it after showering. It prevents that nast from building up. I also use a Chlorine tablet in the toilet tank, which keeps the toilet bowl decent twice as long. Just makes it more manageable when you have to balance work, kids, and housekeeping.

For the shower, I’ve got that Scrubbing Bubbles push-button spray cleaner thing. You have to remember to push the button, of course, and then it gives you 15 seconds to get out and close the door/curtain. It sprays 360 degrees two or three times, and I find that, if you do it regularly, it really cuts down on the buildup. I’ve got one in each of our showers.

Usually do laundry when everything is overflowing in the basket or spread all over the bathroom floor! lol

Now I do it as I go. I tend to spend an hour or so each morning after blogging and FarmTowning and I’ll pick up and fold laundry. I’ll usually throw in a load at night after Wii bowling and I’m puttering around in the kitchen. I’m also a ” night putterer.” I’ll pick up and straighten for half an hour or so then too. But I remember back when my laundry was never caught up and something always needed to be done. I usually did a load of laundry every afternoon when I got home. I had to lug the hamper down three floors so ya, that sucked. My boys had to take their own up and put it away from a very early age. By the time they were in kindergarten, they had their own basket and had to put it in their dressers. I hung up what needed to be hung but there was no way I was hauling that up and down.

I also cooked on Saturday afternoons and nights for the week. Having a week of meals really helps save a lot of your time.

I tried then like now to do it as I went. If I’d have let it go my ADD would never have allowed me a clean house. I’d get lost in it. My boys also had chores though and Paul helped out too.

Bailey cleans his room, but once a month we both get in there and “gut” it out…he has this notion he is going to keep EVERYTHING for HIS son…I have to remind him, his son probably won’t care about a T-shirt with a dog on it! So I compromise, he saves all his of his jersey’s. He also cleans off the table and sets it for supper. He takes his clothes upstairs and puts them away. And he folds the towels. Gotta earn your money some how!

    Usually Saturday or Sunday.
