Pull up a Ball

My friend Jen and I took our boys bowling this weekend, and boy, oh boy, did we have a  blast!  It’s pretty hilarious to watch kids that little (6 & 7) trying to deal with 8 pound bowling balls!  We relented and put up the gutter-bumpers, but the boys opted not to use the ramp (for those who haven’t seen them, they make aluminum ramps that are around 3′ tall.  The child puts the ball on top, and rolls it down so it has enough momentum to make it down the aisle to the pins).  I can’t tell you how many times they ended up sliding on knees because of the way they were holding the balls – their hands are too small to use the holes, so they just had to lug the balls to the line and heave them.  What a hoot!

The scores ended up in the high 90’s… Trace got 98 and Josh got 95.

So today, we’re going bowling.  Pull up a ball, wing it down the lane, and hope for the best.

Remember the rules – be nice.  ‘Cause if you’re not, we’re stealing your shoes, and you have to wear those skeevy rentals for the rest of the week!!

We just had our bowling league last night so this fit us, too! LOL! Toby and I have been playing in this mixed doubles league for, I think, 3 years now and this year we’re actually doing awesome! We are in second place and won all our games/points last night. We are very excited! That’s about where the fun stopped though.

I got a call from my mom (who was watching my kids while we bowled) and said Trin wasn’t feeling good so hurry up. We didn’t hurry up fast enough 😦 She got sick at grandma’s house and then had a miserable night, and I wasn’t feeling great myself. So today was all about the pj’s and boob tube. I didn’t get dressed til I left for volleyball at 5:30! I did manage to get the house cleaned and a nap in though, so it’s not like I was lazy all day 😉

Tomorrow (Today, whenever you’re reading this!) is crazy busy at work so it will be a marathon. Other than that, same old same old!

After all that fun yesterday, and the JOY of my team crashing and burning today… I’m sitting here with the mother of all colds. I get maybe three colds a year, and this is one of them. And i hate it, every time. But, by my calculations, I should be about halfway through, so that’s good. Can’t go fast enough for me, though.

This week is going to be me trying to learn how to not be such a perfectionist. It’s amazing how much you think about stuff when you’re folding laundry (and yes, those two sentences actually ARE related). So I was folding the laundry this afternoon, trying to figure out why I haven’t done a bunch of the stuff on my to-do list that needs getting done. And I realized that I’ve been putting the stuff off until I know I can get it done perfectly. Well, that ain’t gonna happen. So this week, I’m going to work through that to-do list. The house is going to be cleaned “enough”. The resume’s are going to be sent. If they say no, they say no. But at least I applied. Grant proposals will be drafted, etc., etc. The list may not be *perfectly* done, but it will be started. And that’s better than where I am on it right now.

Man, I feel just like Jack Handy.

So I’m working thru this strep infection. Saturday was not so good. I did get a little bit of work done, and I did send the kids off for the evening so I could chill out. It was nice to have an evening to do as I pleased; I only wish that could happen sometime when I’m not sick. Anyhoo, I ended up getting a good night’s sleep, and I woke up being able to breathe through my nose, aah! I skipped church, but I did start the day giving thanks for being able to breathe and be comfortable, before I dragged my butt out of bed.

I used the morning pretty well today; got caught up on my housework and laundry before my sister arrived, and then got to work. It was a pretty good day, considering that I am still somewhat sick. I got one project out and am still working on another (more mindless) one. I’m still about a half a week behind in the grand scheme of things, but it could be worse.

I still have to complete all the stuff they want for the vision therapy “graduation” tomorrow evening. Maybe I will drop back in here after I do it, because right now I don’t even really know what it’s going to be like. I suppose I’m a terrible mom for not really being “into it.”

Well, not much else to report around here. Hopefully health and energy will return soon – for me and all of you fellow sickies out there.

I got done with my kid’s vision therapy “who I am” package, I guess. I think the meds I am on are making me too “out of it” to do it the way I normally would. I was asked to say what my kid’s problems were and what improvements I’ve seen, and put together a few photos and list some of her favorite stuff to do. I put some stuff together, but . . . well, you know how it is when you’re trying to talk to someone in a dream? You know you moved your mouth and sound came out, but you have no confidence that your intended message got across, and every time you go back to try again, it’s the same all over again. This is why I should not take meds. They make me STOO PID as my mom would say.

And also, I think my kid may be the least photogenic kid in the world. She’s cute most of the time, just not when there’s a camera anywhere near. It took me hours to come up with a handful of photos that might be useable. Sorry to say, her sister is more photogenic and even in a photo where Miss A is cute, Miss E usually overshadows her. (I’ll probably go straight to Hell for saying such things out loud.)

I woke up not feeling my best. Not sick, just…I don’t know, not myself. Our weekend was nice. Had a great time at some friends’ house, and ended up staying there way too late! Which made me over sleep Sunday and waste my morning, I hate that!

Nothing new going on this week. Bailey has Friday off, which is always welcomed! That’s about it.

Seems like everyone is “off” this week. SKL is getting over strep, Nikki isn’t herself, and I have a whopper of a cold. Folks should probably keep their distance…
