Pull Up a Coconut

Welcome to Bora Bora, my friends.  Pull up a beach chair, have a glass of your favorite frothy drink (I’ll take a Mojito, please), and settle in.  Can you feel the marrow in your bones relaxing?  Everything just sinks down into that lovely, comfortable, sun-kissed chair.

I’ve just come off of a crazy, sick, stressful, sick-kid, stressful, worrisome week.  And I might be looking at more of the same (without the sick I hope).  So my favorite escape is to google some pictures from Bora Bora, ’cause that’s the closest I’m going to get to it for the forseeable future.

So here we are.  Kick back and enjoy the island breeze.

Remember the rules.  If you’re not nice, we take your drink and toss you in to swim with the sharks.  Although, that sounds kinda fun…

Hi! OK, it is taking a little effort to pretend to be in that climate. Especially considering how congested my sinuses are right now.

I finally took my last dose of antibiotics this morning. I am pretty sure it was the meds that had me feeling tired and heavy for the past week. So now I hope they will wear off quickly and I’ll have my stamina back. The sinuses, I don’t know – I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll ever be back to normal up there. I sure hope so, because at this point my eyes actually hurt.

So this Bora Bora thing reminds me of when I was vacationing in China, and I got a whopper of a cold. I was sick the whole 3 days when we were on the Yangze (sp?) river cruise. All I wanted to do is lie in the cabin, but I did drag my butt out to see some of the sights (and get sunburned). My friends decided that it was all bad attitude, that I was pouting because I was angry, so they attacked me (some people like to kick you when you’re down). Then I got better, but my friend who had been so intolerant came down with it – after the boat cruise was over, when we had to do a lot more walking. So at least now she knows that when I say I’m sick, maybe I really am. Ah, fond memories! I could write a book about that trip alone.

This weekend was relatively normal. Worked Saturday morning and most of Sunday, went to my parents’ Saturday evening for the birthday. It was fun to see my baby niece, whose personality is coming out so much more nowadays. Otherwise it was not a very eventful visit.

We finished watching Mother Teresa this morning. I told my girls about the charity projects that I support in India and showed them photos from when I went there and visited the school, orphanage, etc. That was cool, but in digging for the photos, I realized once again how badly I need to go through my stuff and reorganize. I can’t believe I thought I was an organized person. Granted, it’s hard to fit one’s whole life into one small bedroom, but hey – look at Mother Teresa – all she had was a couple of saris, and look how much she accomplished. I really need to get on it. Maybe getting rid of all that dusty crap will help my sinuses? You never know.

Speaking of getting organized, I received one kid’s final immigration document on Friday. Not sure why the other one hasn’t arrived yet, but hopefully in the next day or so. This was faster than I expected. Next I have to figure out we all need for our passports and get that moving.

My challenge for the coming week is to figure out how to incorporate vision therapy into our new schedule, and also to try to accomplish some more recycling and rearranging of the kids’ stuff. I hope to get more caught up with w0rk (I know, I always say that) and maybe try a new mom & kids fitness class at the rec center. We’ll see.

Hope everyone has a happy and healthy week!

We had a fine weekend. Nothing exciting, no where to go. Saturday evening Jason had a birthday to go to for an old friend so he was gone for a few hours. Bailey and I decided to rent a movie on PPV, Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Very funny, cute movie. He had read the whole series, and thought the movie was great. Sunday, we actually watch TV all day long, just lounged around. It was nice.

Bailey ended up getting a bad headache and got sick before dinner. His dad gets headaches like that, not very often but when he does, they’re so bad it makes him sick. 😦 He’s home from school today, doesn’t feel well. Has no color to him. Not exactly sure what’s going on there. I just hope he doesn’t throw up again because that was not fun to clean up.

    Have a good Monday all!

Poor Bailey. At least it’s a good day to be stuck inside. When will this stupid snow stop?????

      • Nikki says:

I called and talked to grandpa, him and Lester say the stomach flu is going around and it starts with a headache. 😦 He said he’d bring my stuff over later. Can’t wait to see it. Thank you!!

      • Joy says:

You’re welcome. I love my new scentsy warmer. I got the one with the little bird on the edge. It looks so nice on my kitchen shelf. I think it’s called Nature’s Bounty if you still have your book. Even Paul thought it was nice. Well, as nice as a guy thinks scentsy pots are! LOL!!

        Here’s my new warmer.

        • Nikki says:

He dropped it off and I love it! I put my wall plug in one in the bathroom, and this new on in the kitchen. I love the color and design of it.

Yours is so cute…so YOU! 🙂

        • Joy says:

My new one smell kinda funny. I’m wondering if the newness has a smell for a little bit. Jenny, Vicki, Melissa, do you know if they smell “different” in the beginning?

          • Melissa says:

Sorry to hear that you are having troubles with your new warmer. We have not heard or had any troubles of this nature. We would love to replace or refund your wamer as it did not meet your expectations. Sorry for the inconvenience.

          • Joy says:

I wouldn’t call it trouble Melissa but now that I think about it, I noticed this the last time I got a new one and I think it’s just my sniffer. I think it just needs to go for a while and will then dissipate. It’s just me I’m sure.

Did you notice an odd smell Nikki?

            • Nikki says:

No, I used Black raspberry vanilla, and that’s all I smelled. But it takes a lot for me to smell something. It could have smelled odd and I probably wouldn’t have noticed.

          • Joy says:

I unplugged it and it’s the burner itself that has that smell. I have sugar cookie in all three of mine and that’s the only one that has it. I’ll turn it on again in a little bit. I was cooking in there and didn’t want it on but now I’m back in the living room so I’ll plug it back in. If nothing else, I’ll run it over to Vicki’s to see if she can smell it.

        • Laura says:

That’s a really cute warmer, Joy. I’d like to have little things like that around, but between the dog, The Boy, and a blind man… I tend to have knick-knacks that bounce. I’m a whiz at racquet-ball decor!

  3. Jenny says:

So the weather sucks again. I ended up calling the Oral Surgeons office about my wisdome teeth this am. Cause the pain won’t go away!!! I wasn’t expecting them to say ok we can get you in at 10:30. ok…. now I have to go out in this crappy weather. Lastnight sleeping was horrible. Hurt so bad. Haven’t gotten a good nights sleep since last Tuesday.

We tried the apple & spinach perogies lastnight. They were nummy!! The spinach ones would be good with garlic & mushrooms in there. Maybe some artichokes too. I wish I was able to help, but couldn’t. Next time!

    • Joy says:

Gosh Jenny. I can’t even imagine you still in pain like this. Paul took me to get mine done and the next day he was back and work and things were “normal.” I just don’t remember something like this with mine and I got a molar out at the same time. I think maybe something’s wrong cause I just can’t see that this is normal anymore. Wish you felt better.

It’s really good to know about the perogies. I’m so glad you liked them. We’re going to have some tonight. I just haven’t figured out how I’m going to make them or what kind. I’m thinking deep frying the potato ones. They’re my favorite. I’d just as soon have only them.

      • Karen Joy says:

Joy,you know how I do my potato ones.I fry them just until alittle golden in the fry pan then pour in whipping cream and let thicken, add dill.SO very easy.
And that doesnt sound right Jenny.I remember having mine out all at once and I was great the next day.Hope you get better!!

      • Joy says:

I just talked to Lisa and she pretty much told me the same thing. I used to just heat them up in the whipping cream but sometimes if you get it too hot the cream separates so I’m sometimes leery but frying them fist sounds wonderful. I’m going to do a mix of cottage cheese and potato ones tonight.

    • Jenny says:

Well turns out I have not 1 but 2 dry sockets!!!!!!! OMG no wonder why I’ve been in such pain! The surgeon put a long strip of gauze in each hole. I have to go back tomorrow, Thursday & Sat. for the same thing. I said its not like I smoke, didn’t drink out of any straws. He said that birth control can cause the dry sockets. ahhh I feel so much better now that the holes are closed with the gauze!! Maybe tonight I can get some sleep.

  4. Laura says:

Well, Josh tried, but he didn’t make it. He was going to stay over at his buddy’s house Saturday evening, but ended up coming home around 8. That’s ok… having the day “off” was nice, but by that point, I was missing my little guy. And it’s just fine with me if he doesn’t grow up quite yet.

Sorry… been running around like mad today. Two school responsibilities to deal with (fundraising event and grant writing), a den meeting tomorrow night to plan for (that I’m hoping the coming snowpocalypse will cancel) and that teeny detail of feeding my family have gotten in the way of me surfing the net.

I’ll try and check back later!

Just an aside… this storm better not affect FedEx delivery. I ordered some new slippers, and they are due to be delivered tomorrow. I’m gonna be ticked if they can’t get through.
