Pull Up a Sail!

It’s been so bloomin’ windy here in the Midwest that I figured we might as well make use of it. So I chartered a sailboat for our Monday Chat. (of course, this one is moored in St. Maartin… bonus!!)

So, grab a spot on the deck and relax. Be prepared to jump in and haul that keel, or whatever it is you do on a sailboat (I’m more acquainted with canoes and kayaks, myself), and let us know what’s on deck for the week.

And if you’re mean, we toss you overboard. I think there’s a shark following us…

Well, this past week has been pretty productive. I’m mostly still on a good roll. Hopefully it will continue because I have a lot to accomplish work-wise over the next week.

The weekend was low-key. Found out on Friday that we wouldn’t all be going to dinner together, so I thought, I’ll drive the girls somewhere. Then I stopped for gas and it was over $4/gallon. That would mean $8 just to drive to the nearest Barnes & Nobles, even if we bought nothing. So I decided to just go home and chill out. Did some re-arranging in the girls’ play area, some laundry, etc. On Saturday morning, Nanny took the girls to her house (after swim lessons). The girls took a late nap and then we all went out to dinner and shopping and called it a day. Today was the usual – church, Sunday school, work. I did get a chance to sneak in a chat with my sister while the girls napped and the aunties were out. The only bad thing was that Miss E got a cut on the bottom of her foot. She was jumping for joy and landed on something sharp. So now I am watching it carefully and hoping that it doesn’t get infected. I hope she feels good enough tomorrow to enjoy soccer, etc.

I don’t know what we’ll do on Monday – it depends on the weather, which has been sucky every day since I don’t know when. It’s been rainy, sunny, rainy, sunny, etc. but never stays sunny long enough to allow serious outdoor play. On Tuesday, we have tickets to see West Side Story at the theatre – I hope it goes well. Wednesday-Friday will probably be our usual busy schedule. I probably have to go to “the office” a couple of times this week as well.

I suppose I should check and see whether my kids have any recitals this week. I know they are all in May.

Next Sunday we’ll probably go to my parents’ for Mother’s Day. I need to come up with some gifts for that plus my mom’s and friend’s birthday. My niece’s 18th is the 12th and she is also planning a graduation party, so that will mean more shopping. Maybe that is what I’d better do with my Monday night.

Well, I hope everyone has a good week. I hope the weather is good and everyone gets a chance to chill a little.

I am so sick of the wind and the cold I could cry. I am crabby and just want it to warm up already!!!

Other than that, we had a pretty normal weekend. I have to be to work early tomorrow so I should really be in bed, but Obama is making a statement so I’d better stay up to watch! Oh, it’s a good thing the reporters made his announcement for him. Back to regular programing please!

  3. Laura says:

Well. I’m sitting here listening to a live stream from ABC News. I’m not sure what to think about this breaking news, that Osama Bin Laden is dead.

On one hand, I’m thrilled – this is a major victory for the USA. On the other hand, I’m so jaded by this administration, I am looking for the other shoe to drop.

Well, I see no shoe suspended above, so I will be grateful to the brave men and women of the military and U.S. Intelligence who worked so hard to accomplish this.

    • SKL says:

Of course BO will be guarded in how he talks about this. He doesn’t want to piss off that part of the world that believes his sympathies are with the anti-US Muslim groups.

I’m glad they caught and killed him. No doubt he already has a successor, who may be more or less charismatic/crazy/ruthless than he. It will be interesting to see what the various groups of people around the world will say about this. At times like this, I almost wish I was a TV watcher.

      • Laura says:

I’m listening to live streaming from ABC news right now. I’m confused on the details. If you read the stories before BO made his speech, they said that this happened last week, and we’ve been “sitting on” the news for a week until DNA results came in. Now BO says in his speech that the mission was authorized and carried out today (yesterday?).

Either way, it’s a good thing for us, because it’s about time. But you’re right – he’s probably long since retired from being an international crazy, and his lieutenants have taken over and are steering his ship.

      • mssc54 says:

I think I will listen to the speach on youtube and count the number of times he says “I”.

    • Nikki says:

People are saying all over my facebook, “Finally a President sets a goal and achieves it.” “BO will surely be our president for the next term.” I throw up a little bit every time I read those comments.

      • Laura says:

Yeah, it does annoy me that Obama is getting so much credit. I’ll give him credit – this couldn’t have happened without his approval. But there are a lot of others who deserve congratulations as well… Seal Team 6 (who is being credited for the actual takedown), the Intelligence Officers who gathered the information and provided the “thread”, and even President Bush, for getting the ball rolling and putting the operation into motion.

        • SKL says:

They are making it sound like this would not have happened but for Obama’s election. Like McCain or Hillary or whoever is gonna run against him in 2012 would have said, “nah, let him go.”

But, what’s with the whole burial at sea thing? Since when do we dump the evidence of Public Enemy #1’s body into the deep?? Something smells fishy to me.

  4. Laura says:

    Time test.

    • Laura says:

ah HAH!!! Got the time fixed again. Starting with my “time test” post, the time is correct Central Standard Time. Anything before that is an hour off.

  5. Nikki says:

We had a very lazy weekend. It wasn’t planned that way but Mother Nature has something against us so we were stuck in most of the weekend. Saturday my nieces party went very well. We decided since the sun was trying to stay out we’d get our boat in the water. We’re strolling along and it was beautiful, sun was shining the air was cool but refreshing….then BAM all of a sudden it was like we were in the ocean! Huge waves, cold wind gusts up to 25 mph….we got back to the dock as soon as we could. But at least we know the boat runs perfect.

Sunday Baileys scrimmage game was cancelled because it was 30 degrees and that’s way too cold! So we stayed in, cleaned and watched our Twins get spanked again. 😦

  6. mssc54 says:

Well Wednesday, May 4th will be our 37th wedding anniversary. I’m don’t have the first clue as to what to give her. She complains that jewelry is to expensive, flowers just die….

I’m sort of in a funk about it too.

    • Joy says:

Why don’t you whisk her away for a night in a nice hotel with a nice dinner and soak in a hot tub. Just the 2 of you. Pretend you’re just going to dinner and pack her a bag and sneak it in the car.

      • Laura says:

that’s a really good idea, Joy. And if you can’t swing it for Wednesday (’cause, let’s face it, it IS a school night), plan it for Friday or Saturday night, and maybe stick a movie or a trip to the theatre in there, if there’s something good playing nearby. Just a nice ‘date night’ followed by an overnight, and a really nice breakfast after. AND… if you do it from Saturday to Sunday, you can bring her home to a clean house and homemade lunch, courtesy of the kids, for Mother’s Day!!

  7. Joy says:

I’m extremely happy about Bin Laden but like you all, I get sickened by “what may happen” now. He was such a horrible man. One thing Toby brought up last night that’s food for thought. We love Celebrity Apprentice. Last night was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. We almost saw a “girl fight” and at 9:50, the screen goes to some guy at the White House and no more show. With just a few minutes left in the show, nothing!! We were irate since BO didn’t come on until 10:40. The powers that be could have let us finish our show and let us watch our own news. Was BO messing with The Donald? Don’t get me wrong, I’m so glad Bin Laden is dead BUT, the Pres didn’t come on away. They were just talking. Did we need to see that or couldn’t we have watched our own news. Not to mention like someone said above, this wasn’t “news” to them in the White House. Just a very good question. Obama took a lot of shots at Trump also at some kind of dinner Sat night and I thought he was very out of line. Since when did our Presidents go to roasts (while now we know all this crap with Bin Laden was going on)? He also went golfing while all this was going on yesterday. So, did he really need to take those few minutes of the show away from us or was he showing his power????? I’d like to make one more point. Since when did doing your job earn you anything? It’s all he’s done! This is all he’s done the entire time he’s been in office. Other than spending money that is. Bush also deserves a hand here too but that’ll never happen.

    ALRIGHTYTHEN!!!

It was such a long and crappy weekend. I swear I could use that sail on the ground and go a long way. It did nothing but get really cold and it rained on Sat and tried to snow yesterday. I saw white flakes for a while. Paul and I were bored silly. I watched soaps all afternoon and he played FarmTown and napped. I did make a pot of ham and bean soup and that was nice to have simmering all day. Jason and Nikki are eating the leftovers tonight. I know how he loves it and it’s really not that good for my diet. One mug is all I got but I love it and had 3 bones.

Tonight is the weigh in and I’ve had a really good week. According to the Wii, I should lose what I did last week. It’s right around 3 lbs which makes me really happy. That would put my total lost just shy of 10 in 3 weeks. I’d say that’s not too bad. I know Vicki has worked hard this week too so good luck to her too.

I’m doing laundry now and am going to putter around and then do nothing. Have a good day everyone.

Today is another gloomy day 😦

    • Laura says:

I saw that same conclusion on a couple of websites that I’ve been surfing… the bit about cutting off the last bit of Celeb apprentice. I didn’t realize it was on, although I did know that he made people wait for almost an HOUR before he came on. I don’t know if that was him, or the news stations, honestly. But it seems to me he’s done this before, hasn’t he? Presser scheduled for 10, and he comes sauntering in at 10:30? It’s just more of his arrogance. I know my brother was REALLY ticked off that he pre-empted the last bit of CSI:Miami. (although I told him that all he had to do was imagine the red-haired guy looking over his shoulder at the camera, putting on his sunglasses and saying something snarky, then walking away, and he’s got the ending)

I wasn’t watching TV, MI:5 was over for the night (they’re showing it on Sunday Nights on PBS here! I’m sooo excited!!), so I got the news via the computer.

But I do know that the conspiracy theories are already starting…

      – was Osama *really* killed over the weekend? Early reports state that he was killed last week, and the announcement was held off for a week because that’s how long it takes for DNA testing to generate accurate results

      – why did it happen (just *happen* to happen?) yesterday, May 1. That is the anniversary of the announcement of Hitler’s death. Further fodder for the conspiracy that he was killed at a different date, and reserved for now

      – why was he ‘buried’ at sea? why weren’t we allowed to see the body (a la Uday/Kusay, Saddam’s sons) before it was disposed of?

      – And the big one… Why did he interrupt Celeb App???? (and I’m totally with you on this one. I think it was absolutely a snub at Trump. I think the operation did happen over the weekend – it’s hard to cover the explosion of a Blackhawk Helicopter in a residential area – but I think the announcement, since it was coming anyway, was planned to tweak Trump)

      • Nikki says:

Also it happened to happened on the anniversary of the founding of the Illuminati. I am reading SO many conspiracy theories, mainly from one friend. She’s saying Bush had a hand in the attacks and Bin Laden had been to several of our military bases…..she posted this. http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/binladen_cia.html

There’s so much out there and it’s hard for people to sort it all out. What to believe and what not to believe. I do not believe Bush played a role in the 9/11 attacks. I keep my opinion to myself on FB, because it makes no difference.

      • Joy says:

Some of those stupid stories are just stupid. Why would any President do that?

        • Nikki says:

I know…that was my exact thought on it. I can’t believe people believe this, but they do. And they say we need to educate ourselves about what’s really going on…OKAY!

          • Laura says:

I get a real kick out of reading some of the conspiracy theories out there. Want a fun one? Go look up either the HAARP system, or the theory about “con” trails vs “chem” trails.

      • SKL says:

Not that I feel sorry for The Donald, but seriously, you know Obama timed this and you know he has a tendency to be a smartass toward people who have gotten in his face. So I wouldn’t be surprised if that was on purpose – but nobody will ever admit it, so . . . .

One thing that keeps bugging me is how the timing of the birth certificate was so convenient right before the strange disposal of Osama’s body. I think he didn’t want two “Where is the Evidence” issues going at once.

I am not a Birther, because in my mind, as long as his mom was a citizen when he was born, and he never renounced his US citizenship, he was an American-born citizen. (Of course given his history, it’s possible he has something else going on as far as citizenship in other countries, but I’m gonna assume he doesn’t since I don’t know otherwise.) Yes, it is very strange that he didn’t come up with his BC a very long time ago. But like I said, I don’t consider his place of birth to be the deciding factor, unless his mom wasn’t a citizen at the time. (Haven’t heard that she wasn’t.) My point is, I think it’s very possible that his BC was forged. That is a natural thought since he took so long to produce it despite many people on both sides begging him to. And if it was forged, what exactly does that mean? Maybe nothing other than he’s a big liar. Which I already knew, but which would not be helpful in his next campaign.

So anyhoo, he came up with a BC so now people are gonna look silly if they start saying “where is the evidence” when it comes to the body. I still don’t believe the date of death, either. I am not sure I believe the DNA or that they actually found the guy or actually killed him. You know that’s also going to be the opinion of the anti-US Muslims. Without evidence of his death, who’s gonna believe it? There are still people who think Hitler was not killed. Hell, there are people who think Elvis is alive. Throwing the body into the drink before the killing was even announced is just too crazy. Either it’s a lie or he wants the anti-US Muslims to think it’s a lie.

  8. SKL says:

My brilliant post just went into oblivion . . . .

  9. Jason says:

Why is it that we are so fascinated by exactly what time this this whole operation went down. I find it hilarious/disturbing that so many Americans were more interested in some taped reality t.v. show than the televised statement concerning a man who authorized the death of 3000+ of our fellow Americans.

On another note, How embarassing it must be for Pakistan to have us find these individuals so close to their own military acadamy.

    • SKL says:

I don’t care about the Trump aspect of it, but I want to know why the pres announced the time as being a lot different from what was reported earlier. If he’s lying about it, there has to be a reason why. I don’t trust him as far as I can throw him. He has too many sympathies with anti-US elements.

    • Joy says:

I know it sounds like that Jason. That’s why I was hesitant to say anything last night and had Obama come on right away, I wouldn’t have given it a thought but I was beginning to get really scared. We had no idea what he was going to say. But I don’t know why he himself didn’t make the announcement and why we had all those reports trying to make small talk for 45 minutes. I guess CSI Miami watchers were upset today too. Anyone watching anything that was so close to the end and then to listen to babble would have been upset and I think the Pres should have told us himself. Otherwise what was the point of not waiting till the news came on? It wasn’t the show, it was how it was done. Kind of like everyone can sit and wait for me.

      • Sue says:

Yes, that’s what it was. I’ll be on in 2 min, oops false alarm. Ok, 2 min everyone! Oops, false alarm again. And then to have the reporters make the big announcement instead of the President made me say hmmmm, what’s really going on and now that I know I’d rather watch my regular news then listen to him babble about how great he was.

  10. Sue says:

Mum, you keep messing with the header and colors! I like this one 🙂

    • Joy says:

Sometimes these don’t work right and the one I put on was all blurry but it got stuck and it took me 45 minutes to get it off.

  11. Jason says:

I think that there was a lot of issues that were on the playing field that needed serious consideration. It may have had some political undertones, but untimately none of us were in the situation room, none of us are part of his press staff, and I hate to sound harsh, but none of us really understand the weight that was on his shoulders. Whether you like the man or not he has made the decision to eliminate someone who hated all of us very much, let us not forget that the last time we had the chance to eliminate “OBL” we all sat around with our thumbs up our backsides, because those with the power to make the decision lacked guts to say it’s now or never…..

    • Jason says:

      *Ultimately*

    • Joy says:

You could be right but all in all, I find it very rude and insulting to us that he sets that kind of thing up and then let’s us just hang there. They could have cut to him the second he was ready. No matter what was on TV, for him to halt the networks with a huge message and to make us wait 40 minutes? That’s insulting to all Americans. Then to find out it had been in the works all last week and he orchestrated the whole thing like this. I do think it was a political tactic and like any other politician, he used to to his advantage.

  12. Jason says:

Joy could you tell me the website that says that he had this whole thing in the works. Its not that I do not believe you but I would like to read it for myself. I read earlier that there was someone who lived in the vicinity that tweeted that he heard helicopters hovering over the town on Monday around 1am. It did not clarify what the exact date was. Here is one publishing of his story http://www.purdueexponent.org/nation_world/article_f7aa7f6e-74ff-11e0-af62-001a4bcf6878.html

    • Joy says:

I heard it last night on KARE11, that’s NBC right? I didn’t read it anywhere. I don’t remember who the newscaster was that was on (I had never seen him before) but he said that they “found” him last week and that it was a slow process and they had to make sure it was him so it was business as usual and that was why the President only golfed 9 and not his usual 18 holes yesterday.

  13. Laura says:

I tend to believe that the whole thing went down “yesterday” (in quotes, because there’s a massive time difference involved), as opposed to last week, simply because something involving the blowing up of a blackhawk helicopter cannot be kept under wraps for very long. Especially when that explosion takes place less than a block away from their version of West Point.

I think the confusion may have been that he gave the order last week, and it was actually executed/completed over the weekend.

I completely believe that he pre-empted when he did to tweak Trump. He’s THAT petty. And he likes the control that he weilds over everything. You don’t think he was flying high last night? Not only did he hold OBL’s fate in his hands during the week, now he gets to hold the nation in suspense for however long he wants. It’s an absolute feed to his ego. Like him or not, the man is a massive narcissist, and this was his moment in the sun. He was going to milk it for all it was worth – because he could.
