What Do You Think?

Not sure if I should file this under “What was that judge thinking?” or “Are you freaking kidding me???”

Nutshell: A woman suffering from Stage 4 Breast Cancer loses custody of her two children to her allegedly abusive husband, who moved to Chicago for a job, then sued her for custody.

A facebook page has been created in her honor. From that page, you may link to another where a petition exists, to try and get some justice for this woman.

The mother has a blog here.

The direct link to the petition, should you wish to view or sign it, is here.

And finally, she is trying to raise money for her battle here.

Wow. I agree with this mom – the judge is putting the dad’s job ahead of the mom’s health. Never mind the fact that the mom quit her job for the sake of the family way back when – the dad shouldn’t have to do the same. And this judge is a woman.

I wonder if the judge basically believes the mom is about to drop dead right now, despite the fact that her health is currently stable. This is the thing that I find so depressing – that some stranger can decide that whatever days God decides to give you on this earth are not worth anything. What a nice thought when you’re already battling a deadly cancer.

I hope her husband finds a bit of compassion and finds himself a job near his ex so they can have a reasonable joint custody arrangement. Those poor kids need both parents.

the thing that really blows my mind is that this woman has called the abuse hotline and reported her husband multiple times. The judge knew this and STILL gave custody to him.

  3. Ellen says:

This is unbelievable. I cannot believe this judge. I signed the petition and will pray for her and her children.

What do I think?! I think this is a major FAIL from our judicial system! Because the mom doens’t have a full time job??? Really? Because I know a lot of mothers that have custody of their children over the father and they don’t even work! This makes me sad, and mad. I hope someone, with all this coverage, steps up and fights this for/with her! Those poor kids, they need to spend as much time as they can with their mother. Who knows how long they have. They will resent and may even hate their father in the end. I would.

Geesh. I can’t even begin. This one really does have me wanting to bang my head against the wall. What are people thinking sometimes?

I did like Ellen and signed the petition and will pray for this family. I agree with SKL too. It’d be nice if the ex husband turned decent. One can only wish and hope. These poor little kids.

  6. Laura says:

She’s raised $6K through her donation site so far (her goal is $10K). A couple of days ago (maybe yesterday), according to her FB page, she was in NYC trying to find a lawyer to take this case pro bono. I cannot believe that there are not people jumping to take this case in her own state.

This is freaking unbelievable! Whatever could that judge be thinking? Yeah, by all means, let’s take custody from the mom, whose health is currently stable, and give the kids to their abusive father! You have to wonder why the judge thinks anything has changed with this man’s patterns. Abusive people generally don’t stop with their spouses, invariably it includes children as well. I haven’t checked out the petition yet, but I’m certainly going to.

I wasn’t able to hear most of the video so I had to settle for the article. I find it hard to believe that there hasn’t been a team of lawyers showing up on her doorstep. This would be a win/win situation for them.

Is this judge in Chicago? Because we REALLY need to vote her out and keep her out!
