Well, it’s that time again…yep, it’s FRIDAY!!! Happy Memorial Day Weekend! I hope everyone had a great week. Anyone have plans for the long holiday? Any traditions? We never do too much. Mostly, just enjoy the extra time off. This year, we have a boat and *fingers crossed* the weather looks good for Sunday and Monday.
So tell us about your week, and what’s going on this weekend in your necks of the woods?
I’m very glad tomorrow is Friday! I completely forgot about the pot luck tomorrow until Jenny said something about making food for Jason’s work so now at 9:30pm I’m making cookie bars. It’s going to kill me not to eat one! I am just beat tonight and can’t wait to hit the hay. Tomorrow night we may go see a movie with my sister and nephew, Saturday we have no official plans other than working in the garden 😦 I’m tired just thinking about it. The thistles have taken over and it’s pissing me off! So, I see a lot of weeding in my future. Sunday is my family’s cookout and Nikki invited us to go play baseball with the Bison boys. I’m not sure if we’ll make it though, it all depends how much we get done Saturday. Monday will hopefully we a day of rest before the last 3 days of school. Then the ciaos really begins!
I REALLY wish people would not say “Happy” Memorial Day. If not for our dead family members there would not be a Memorial Day. Not a single thing happy about that.
It’s not like we are having a bbq party because it’s a former president’s birthday. 😦
Come on Michael. You know that was said with a very good intent. Should we say “have a shitty holiday?” Come on now. Don’t be overly sensitive with us. We didn’t create the “holiday.”
Do you really think I celebrate our soldiers being killed? I celebrate their life, and what they did for us. I’m a little offended you’d think I intended it that way.
I’m sure he knows that Nikki. Don’t feel bad.
Of course I don’t think you celebrate our soldiers being killed.
“Enjoy your weekend and take a moment to recognize it’s meaning” works better for me though.
The thing is that MOST yes MOST Americans just view Memorial Day as a day off to party. They don’t even acknowledge the reason THEY are alive and partying with their friends and family.
Ahh, the best thing about this coming weekend is – boss-partner is going to be out of town at a wedding! I still have lots of work to do, but at least I can go to sleep when I want and sleep as long as I want! (Well, not exactly – Nanny comes at 8am Saturday and church is 8:30 Sunday – but you get the idea.)
I really wanted to set up the kids’ bunkbed this weekend. The mattresses probably won’t arrive in time. But I guess they could sleep on their old mattresses on the floor for a couple of days. They would probably find that fun. Maybe I’ll get my sister to help me with that on Sunday.
On Saturday evening, I’m thinking we’ll just mosey over to the nearby park, assuming the weather is stable. Otherwise, maybe the library or just watch a movie at home. I don’t have any shopping to do and I can’t really justify using $8 in gas just to make a fun run to Barnes and Noble.
The kids are off school on Monday. They can play around the house while I work, and nap in the afternoon. Lately they are pretty intense about playing and have no trouble entertaining themselves; I have to drag them away from the dollhouse, etc. to get them to bed / school. So they will probably enjoy some time without me on their back, just to play and do their own thing.
Friday and Saturday I have to work at the hospital, but Sunday and Monday I am off. That will be the first weekend in three weeks I am off. Worked 21 days in a row. How more American can I be 🙂 Soon school is on summer break, so then I can relax a lot and do things that are needed around the house. Also next month we are heading to Kentucky for a family reunion with the in laws. I am pretty excited about that upcoming event and also I will be in another State and that is to me such a trill. Have a wonderful long weekend you all, and my thoughts are also with all the men and women who served for this country and for all other countries.
Oy. I’m back in full battle with the *bleeping* lawn mower. I swear, I should buy a new one. but we just spent a wad on a fridge, and I have to rebuild the savings again. So….. more nursing it along. I opened it up yesterday, completely innocently, to remove any mouse-nest that got built in there over the winter. Got it open, cleaned out, put back together, went to start it, and discovered that the battery is dead. Hooked up the charger to it, and discovered that THAT isn’t working right. Meanwhile, the grass is knee-high… We live in the country though, so it doesn’t really matter overmuch, except that I have a neurotic neighbor who mows his grass three times a week. It’s nuts.
I also have to pack… we leave for our annual vacation on Tuesday. And I have to help Josh make his Mother’s Day Presents, and the project we chose isn’t coming together very well. It involves shadow boxes, and I can’t find the correct size boxes. Not even little “gift-box” type boxes that I can turn into shadow boxes. so it’s on to Plan B, which I do not have…
Josh has a baseball game tonight, too. Here’s hoping it doesn’t rain.
It’s gonna be a busy weekend.
Oh bummer, partner-boss cancelled her trip. The weekend will be full of stress and drudgery. Man, I was really looking forward to a break – especially after last weekend’s marathon. No fair.
That’s rough. Especially when you were looking so forward to some time alone with the girls.
I’ve had a very busy week but it’s been so productive. I’ve been working out and working in the yard like a fiend. I’m almost done weeding the front of the house and then need to do the side by the deck. To think that last year I couldn’t do any of this stuff just amazes me. We also got the pool up last night and as we speak, it’s filling up. It was a good thing we did the work this week for it because it looks like it’s going to rain any minute so I’m so glad it’s up.
Last night I also dug out my potting table and a bunch of my “yard jewelry” out of the barn and washed it off and I plan to buy flowers on Sunday when I’m in Buffalo and get those planted. I want a waterfall of some kind too so we’ll see what they have at Menards. I also need an umbrella for the patio table. I love it when the yard starts taking shape like this.
Normally we go to the neighbors for our holiday cookouts but they’re doing it Sunday this year instead of Monday and we’d already made plans to go to Buffalo with Jason and Nikki and that’ll be fun too. I’ll miss the neighbors but we’ll have to do one again in a few weeks or something. Maybe we should do one for your birthday Vicki? Then we can eat like hogs because we’ll get the next week off between the weigh ins. My mom is so excited to get out among the living and spend some time with the ball team and kids. I think it’s going to do her the world of good. I know it’s really hard for her to not drive anymore and I’m going to have to look into that van that comes and takes people places because I know she gets very restless and there are times I know she’d like to go off on her own.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Joy, her b-day is a BIG one this year!!!!!! 😉
Then a cookout is a MUST.
