Do you find this to be just toooooo much?

I’m sure by now all of you have seen this. Okay, I have a rant coming. I’m not even going to bother saying that I’ll give my opinion after all of you. I think this is the ultimate in bad taste! For Prince William and Prince Henry alone not to mention all the other members of Princess Diana’s family. To put her on a magazine cover at age 50 and speculate what her life would have been like! Are you freaking seriously kidding me????

This is just part of what Newsweek wrote about her.

“Diana would have been 50 this month. What would she have been like? Still great-looking: that’s a given. Her mother, Frances Shand Kydd, with her cornflower-blue eyes and striding sexuality, was a handsome woman to the very end. Fashionwise, Diana would have gone the J.Crew and Galliano route à la Michelle Obama, always knowing how to mix the casual with the glam. There is no doubt she would have kept her chin taut with strategic Botox shots and her bare arms buff from the gym. Remarriage? At least two, I suspect, on both sides of the Atlantic. Always so professional herself, she would have soon grown exasperated with Dodi Al-Fayed’s hopeless unreliability. After the breakup I see her moving to her favorite city, New York, spending a few cocooned years safely married to a super-rich hedge-fund guy who could provide her with what she called “all the toys”: the plane, the private island, the security detail. Gliding sleekly into her 40s, her romantic taste would have moved to men of power over boys of play. She’d have tired of the hedge-fund guy and drifted into undercover trysts with someone more exciting—a high-mindedly horny late-night talk-show host, or a globe-trotting French finance wizard destined for the Élysée Palace. I suspect she would have retained a weakness for men in uniform, and a yen for dashing Muslim men. (A two-year fling with a Pakistani general, rumored to have links to the ISI, would have been a particular headache to the Foreign Office and the State Department.) Davos and the Clinton Global Initiative would have become her new post-palace power circles. She would perhaps have caused a press sensation with an unplanned pledge from the CGI stage to raise $50 million to help educate women in South Sudan.”

Really? Are you freaking kidding me? How in the world can anyone say what she “would have done” had those crazy paparazzi not hunted her down and killed her to begin with? This makes me so sad and one article I read said she “would have been very jealous of William’s relationship with Kate.” WHO IS MAKING THIS CRAP UP? I think she’d be very happy her son appears so happy. She loved those boys more than anything and she tried so hard to have them do things like go to hospitals with her and take them to McDonald’s just so they could be “normal” for a while.

My heart breaks for these two boys who now have to look on the cover of a magazine and read this drivel about their mother who died when they were just young boys.

I remember back when they first started superimposing people doing things with dead people. I want to say Natalie Cole was one of the first who “sang” a song with her dad.  It showed him on a screen and her singing “with him.” I felt it kind of creepy but still, nobody was acting like he was still alive and nobody was speculating on what he’d done with his life had he NOT died! I also believe it was one of those dancers, Bing Crosby or Gene Kelly, doing a commercial for something and they’d digitally altered the video.

I guess the problem I have is the making stuff up. I think if they’d put Princess Diana on the cover celebrating her 50th birthday, that would have been all fine and good but when you read the article, they talk like she didn’t die. And doesn’t anyone think of the feelings of her boys? Of how it makes them feel for them to make crap up about the mother they lost all those years ago in that Paris tunnel being hunted down like she was?

What do you think of this? Do you not care or not think it’s a big deal or do you think the “free press” has gone too far with this?

Leave the dead be. They are pretty much defenseless.

I agree that it’s mean on so many levels. But the worst thing is that these reporters and their kind are the very reason Diana isn’t here on her 50th in the first place. The nerve of some people.

I know SKL. That’s what got my panties in such a bunch. Had the not been the way they were to her, I think she’s still be alive.

I think they went too far. Just let her RIP already!

It is so very wrong, and I hope her sons don’t see it. Newsweek isn’t the powerhouse they used to be, ever since they flubbed big time several years back and printed some sort of confidential info – almost “giving aid and comfort” kind of a deal. I wish I could remember what it was.

Anyway, it’s a stupid American rag magazine, with shoddy (at best) reporting. Unfortunately, with the depths that the media has sunk to, this doesn’t surprise me one little bit.

I’m just not sure how some of them can live with themselves. Why did freedom of the press come to be anyway? Shouldn’t they have to tell the truth or nothing? The way they treat some people is atrocious.

I’m with the rest of you…. this is just soooo wrong on a lot of levels. Who gives them or anyone else the right to speculate in such a derogatory manner? I’ve never purchased a Newsweek, but I didn’t realize that they were now catering to “people with inquiring minds” like the checkout line scandal sheets do! Appalling is the kindest word I can come up with to describe this article! 😦

    • Joy says:

That’s what really annoyed my Phyllis. The speculation. This is the part that broke my heart for her boys: “Gliding sleekly into her 40s, her romantic taste would have moved to men of power over boys of play. She’d have tired of the hedge-fund guy and drifted into undercover trysts with someone more exciting—a high-mindedly horny late-night talk-show host, or a globe-trotting French finance wizard destined for the Élysée Palace”. How dare they say “horny?” Who wants to think of their mom like that? That’s just plain sick.

I also never thought of Newsweek to be this kind of magazine.

I agree. Do they have no shame?!

  7. Nikki says:

This is disgusting!!!!! I wonder how they sleep at night!
