Pull Up a… Berth

I’ve always wanted to go on a train trip out West. Maybe take the Alaskan Railway up to wherever it goes. I’ve heard it’s a cool trip. There’s one that runs through the Canadian Rockies, as well. Sigh. Maybe someday.

Meanwhile, I thought maybe it would be a good place to gather and have our chat. What did you do this weekend? What plans do you have for the coming week. And if it comes up… what kind of unusual vacation would you like to take?

I’ve been on a train a coupe of times. The first one was in high school when I went to International Band Camp in North Dakota. The second was from Minneapolis to New Orleans. I won’t take a train ever again if I don’t have to!

This week is our County Fair! Trinity is getting her projects finished up and the final things are getting tied up for my sister’s wedding. It’s gonna be another busy week. can’t wait for things to settle down!

This weekend was supposed to be a little relaxed after the “big deadline,” but then I found out that my partner-boss promised that I would finish several projects by Monday morning because we had been putting off a lot of stuff during the big crunch. Saturday my kids had a picnic with the kids from their birth country, so they did not have a nap and I quit work earlier than usual. The picnic was fun. Toward the end, Miss E fell into the creek and spent the rest of the day walking around with wet pants. That did not help her already bad mood! The picnic was at a waterpark resort, so the kids and I went to check out the waterpark after the picnic. They wanted $28 for the three of us to get in the door, and I knew my kids would not be allowed on a lot of the stuff, so I told the girls we couldn’t go. Miss E was so bummed. So it was about 4:30 and I had to figure out something fun to do, that didn’t involve more playground time (it was too hot and they’d had enough of that). Thought of trying that city’s zoo, but they closed at 5, so that was a no-go. Then I thought I’d take the kids to a quaint old ice-cream shop along the way to our shopping place, but it had been closed. Eventually we did find some ice cream and finish our shopping with time to spare. Came home and ate and then I took the kids out to ride bikes. Miss E was being crabby again and the day ended unpleasantly.

I was tired and still weak from being sick and exhausted during the big work crunch, and both of my partners were at other parties, so I thought I might as well go to sleep. I got an earful for that. How dare I work less than 8 hours on a Saturday in summer? Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t “normal” people get actual vacation during the summer, as in, entire days off, including multiple consecutive weekdays?? Will I ever be able to take a stinkin’ weekend day off without a guilt trip?

So Sunday I slept in instead of going to church. Then I worked, but in between working, I had a call with my sisters about planning my parents’ 50th anniversary party. That was a productive call, so I feel good about it, even though it brought up “family politics.” Can’t really escape that, can you? Afterwards, my sister took the kids to the local carnival, where they had a blast and came home painted and filthy, hooray! A quick bath set things right for the beginning of the week.

Tomorrow (Monday) my daughter has an appointment with a dermatologist. Can’t think of anything else unusual coming up this week through Saturday. We are overdue for a trip to the zoo on Saturday evening, and then I plan to go to the fair after church on Sunday. I hope I can do so without getting grief about not working. I need to end this ridiculous cycle.

Well, I hope everyone has a great week!

What did I do this weekend? I was a couch potato all weekend! I had my pillow and blanket and din’t get off the couch unless I had to. I wouldn’t normally do that, but I had 2 teeth pulled on Friday. Today, I am still sore but it’s bearable. Thankfully I have two guys here that did anything and everything I asked! Jason loaded me up on food I could eat and he even did the dishes and laundry! If it wasn’t so painful, I’d think about getting teeth pulled more often!

We have a pretty quiet week, practice Tues. Wed. and Thurs. I should be able to eat normally by Friday so I am hoping to go out to dinner. Weekends are filling up quickly so I don’t know when we’ll be able to go if we don’t go this weekend.

I just hope this weekend brings good news, and ends well. That’s all I want right now.

I guess when I look at the plans we have, it’s a kinda busy week. I have the cleaning lady here right now. She wanted the week off so I got booked for today which is okay but the house gets so trashed on the weekends so I had a lot to do to get ready for her.

I had long and ishy week last week. I got water trapped in my ear and bacteria got in there somehow so I was laid up most of the week. Yesterday was the first day I could really chew. I was so swollen up that my teeth didn’t line up and the left side was so sore I couldn’t move my mouth. I ate Campbell’s all week and Sat night I ate the baked pasta from the Triple R. It was so good. By yesterday I was able to get in the pool and do aerobics for almost 2 hours. Of course I didn’t get water in my ear. I was really careful and only got in the pool when I was alone. I feel like dancing today but I sure didn’t eat right and pretty much weigh the same as I did last week. Oh well, better than gaining!

Not much else to tell. Two more weeks of radiation for my mom. I’m not sure of the specifics yet but we’re more than half way there. Won’t it be nice when that’s over girls?

    Have a good week everyone.

That’s a weird design for the Chamber of Secrets cover! I’ve never seen that one. Huh.
