Local grocery store in Kimball. Super Valu. Once I worked there, I was never able to shop there!!!

A lady down the street paid me a quarter to help her son work on his letters for Kindergarten readiness. I was probably about 8 years old.

First regular job – babysitting or paper route – started both on a regular schedule at 13 (though I’d dabbled in both for years before that).

Not sure of these are the kinds of jobs you want to know about. I had many informal paying jobs over the years before I got my first job of the official paycheck variety. In those days, young people could earn a little money without it having to be reported to Uncle Sam. I think I was 18 or 19 when I got my first “W2” reported paycheck. Was it the 7-day nursing home stint, or the one-month deli clerk stint? I’d rather not remember.

My first job was helping my brother deliver papers and I was babysitting by 10-11? When I was 15 I got a job as car-hop at the Frostop Drive inn. My friends dad owned it and we had so much fun. We did NOT wear skates.

Cutting grass. I got three dollars for the “regular size” yard and five dollars for the big ones. And I was thrilled to get them too!

  5. Laura says:

My first “get a real paycheck” job was at the local pool. I was 14, and too young yet to be a lifeguard, so I worked in the Basket Room. On one end, I was admissions – checking passes and taking money, and on the other end, I took in baskets of clothing and handed out the little retrieval tags/pins.

  6. Ellen says:

I worked Saturdays at a grocery store when I was 15 years.

  7. Nikki says:

Baby sitting. My first job that I payed taxes, dish washer at a cafe in a small town of about 500!

  8. Phyllis says:

Starting working for the company I’m still with when I was 16 yrs. old. A very loooong time ago. Before that I babysat for 3 yrs. 13-16 yrs old.

  9. Laura – keep reading those HP books!!!

In answer to the question – I was a waitress for two months and didn’t get paid because the managers were complete stupidheads.
