Girlfriend Getaway

Nearly 1 in 4 women have gone on a girlfriend getaway, and more than half want to do so in the future. Have you ever, and if so, where did you go? What did you do? How much FUN was it?

Well, I have kind of an unusual setup. Every vacation I’ve been on in the past 20 years has been with my female friends. But so is my non-vacation time, since we work together. And when I think “get away,” I’m more likely to be wanting a getaway FROM my “girl friends.”

I don’t have great friendships with folks I don’t work with. I have some friends from past jobs and such, but we are not the type to go and “get away.” We don’t have that much in common / aren’t that close. The most I’ve done is spend the night at a work friend’s house in order to go for a morning spa appointment. That was before I had kids, of course. I’ve done a couple of things with my sisters, but I didn’t leave kids at home those times, either.

I don’t really crave a “getaway” from everyday family life. I do look forward to times when I’ll take my kids and drive off on our own “girls’ getaway.”

Growing up, one of my friend’s family had a timeshare up north. So, every year for her birthday (starting in 5th grade I think) we got to go to the resort for the weekend and she got to bring 5-6 friends. We did that all the way through high school and it was an awesome girlfriend getaway. Since then, I haven’t been gone for a whole weekend. I’ve been gone for 1 night, but not Friday-Sunday and it was for bachelorette parties, not ‘just because’. Someday maybe!

No, I’ve never gone on an all girls weekend get away. I’m not sure I’d want to! I don’t have close girlfriends like that. I have a best friend and I would love to spend a weekend somewhere, just her and I.

I’d much rather be with Jason and Bailey, then any of my friends. Or a get away with my mother and sister in law would be nice!

Well, I always wanted to but never did. But it was a different time when I was younger and people didn’t do fun like this. At least not people that I knew. It seemed like men and women didn’t do so many things separately. We did “family” or “couple” things and if I’d ever said I was going away for the weekend with “the girls,” Paul would have looked at me like I had grown a couple of new heads. I just never knew anyone who did this.

But I do with I could go away for a weekend and meet up with Lisa or Laura. That would be fun and maybe I’ll think about it. Anyone else want to go?

No. This isn’t something I’ve ever had an interest in doing. I don’t have many “close” female friends that I’l enjoy that much time with.

I have a group of girlfriends who are a little older than me and every year they rent a beach house for a weekend. I never go because I would rather spend the money and the time with my own daughters. Maybe when my girls are grown then I will go.
