Beach Behavior

What was the worst beach behavior you have ever seen? Is it a beach fashion faux pas–like speedos, white see-through bathing suits, or thongs? Or bad beach and pool etiquette like blasting loud music, littering or smoking? What gets on YOUR last nerve? Tell us!

I haven’t been on many beaches. I think the worst behavior I’ve seen by an adult on a beach was when I was in Rio – actually we took a little tour from there to a tropical island. There was this plump, middle-aged French lady in our tour group, and with her was her husband and 11-year-old son. While her husband was ignoring her, but with her son close by, she was shamelessly flirting and she kept letting her straps fall down to show way too much of her chest. There was a lecherous guy totally taking the bait. Pretty soon they were making out right there in front of everyone. It was so disgusting to watch, especially since her son was seeing the whole thing.

I’ll have to get to a real keyboard for this one! Sand, wind, towels, littering. Ugh

Okay, sorry it took so long to get back to this.

Some of you know we live on the SC coast. So we know beach etiquette.

My BIGGEST pet peeve is people picking up their towels off of the sandy beach and shaking them out! EXCUSE ME! IT’S WINDY AT THE BEACH. WHERE THE HECK DO YOU THINK THAT SAND IS GOING TO GO?! If you are a tourist and bringing a towel then don’t walk all over your towel! If you HAVE TO shake it out, ball it up when you pick it up, walk out into the ocean knee deep (away from others) and shake it out there! You idiot! We don’t want your sand sticking to all the sunscreen we have slathered on ourselves! If you can’t understand that concept buy a vacation beach chair from Wal Mart or something!

The second thing is people who leave their litter laying around for the wind to blow it down the beach! If you can’t respect the beach then stay in the parking lot!

Screaming kids! I don’t mean screaming kids having fun, I mean screaming kids that clearly don’t want to be there and certainly don’t deserve to be there. Take them home, or better yet, MAKE them behave!

People putting their cigarettes out in the sand and leaving them there. That’s disgusting!

    • mssc54 says:

We have a well established rule about screaming. Now remember we have four daughters and a son. Screaming is only allowed if someone is harming you or trying to kidnap you. Screaming when you are just playing is a punishable offense.

the only thing I can think of(thinking back over this summer at he beach) was one lady who set up their “area” so close to us that our blankets almost touched. Now that was when there was still LOADS of space on the beach.I tried to be polite but I know everything shows on my face.I couldn’t understand why she did that. And then she wanted to talk so much with us,sort of adding to my and my family’s conversation. She wasn’t there alone, husband and 2 kids so Im thinking she was just a little “off”!That annoyed me!

    • Joy says:

That would infuriate me. I hate my personal space being invaded. It would be one thing if the beach were crowded or she just happened to overhear you and join in the conversation but it sounds like she was seeking you out.

    • mssc54 says:

If that happens again in the future just cough and sneeze alot. If you can work up a few farts that would likely do the trick. Or get a boom box and turn it to elevator music.

What really bothers me is when people yell and yell and yell at their kids but never take any action. I’d almost rather listen to the child than to listen to “stop it, stop it, want a spanking?, want to go home?, stop it, stop it…….there is clearly no disciplining there and it’s so obnoxious.

It also frosts my hide when people littler. I can’t.stand.littering.

    • Nikki says:

Ahh, yes. That is more annoying!

    • mssc54 says:

I LOVE WHEN THAT HAPPENS!!! Seriously. I start yelling too. “HEY, BILLY! THIS IS THE IS THE LAST TIME I WANT TO HEAR YOUR MOM YELL AT YOU!” I totally get into the yelling at their kids thing. They don’t usually have to do much yelling after that. 😉

I hate it when people bring their animals to the beach and don’t, ah, clean up after them. So gross.
